Now, that most of the MP's are probably sleeping it off, do you think anything was accomplished by the opposition? The NDP said they knew all the Bills would get passed but they felt they had to do it to alert Canadians of the 425 page Bill and what was in it. I think it also sent a message to the A/T's that THIS opposition will fight against them when they have to and if they are going to do things like this 425 page Bill, then they are going to suffer the consequences of 22 hours in the House voting. All looked pretty rough and tempers were short in some cases. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/tories-thwart-opposition-bid-to-alter-budget-bill-after-22-hour-marathon/article4265459/

Last I checked, there was no Alliance/Tory party, so quit bringing that up.

It's just part of the narrative, I think I'll start referring to the dippers as CCF/dippers.

IMO they didn't accomplish anything except waste time and money, but if it helped them feel good - what the hey.

Canadians elected a strong conservative majority gov't which the opposition parties just can't get over and accept, they are still in denial. They hate that they can no longer dismantle Conservative initiatives in standing committees where they no longer hold a majority.

If the opposition had tabled a number of well thought out amendments and debated those amendments seriously, they might have been able to make a case. Tabling over 500 deletion amendments is such an obvious obstruction tactic the opposition richly deserved to lose.

Haven't the conbots already claimed that the NDP was pro-hitler because the CCF leader was a pacifist even though the party voted for the motion to go to war.

I think the comparison to the reform/alliance is more relevant being within fairly recent history. I don't personally make that association though. I look at their recent actions.

Ideology does not make good policy. Good policy comes from an analysis of options, comparison of options and selection of one option that works best in the current situation. This option is often a compromise between ideologies.

It sent a message to Canadian that the minority opposition parts are REALLY grasping at anything to keep them in the media. I mean really.. Did you watch Mulcair?

I think in this "battle", the minoritie parties showed thier true dislike for democracy and a democratically appointed Majority.

Yes indeedie -do-do.

Thinking back, wasn't the Liberal party a majority government once upon a time? Seems they could have passed legislation against 'omnibus bills' had they the desire.

Seems to me they might have passed a couple then , themselves.

The other message is the Trudeau yawns constantly without covering his mouth! The guy has no manners.. Or was he offering up his "services" to become part of the Tory Cabinet?

You folks are of course spot-on correct about the Liberals.

however, we are all aware that Harper, at one time, opposed this type of bill...because it's anti-democratic, he asserted.

When did his (and your own) 180 degree turnaround occur?

“There is a limit to how much we can constantly say no to the political masters in Washington. All we had was Afghanistan to wave. On every other file we were offside. Eventually we came onside on Haiti, so we got another arrow in our quiver."

--Bill Graham, Former Canadian Foreign Minister, 2007
