Big Blue Machine
I liked him, I read his autobiography, No Holds Barred. He could have won the 1983 PC leadership race if he had been bilingual. He was a funny newfie with an attitude. He got Atlantic Canada Hibernia. He stopped the Seal Hunt. What do you guys think of him? Quote And as I take man's last step from the surface, for now but we believe not too far into the future. I just like to say what I believe history will record that America's challenge on today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow. Michael Hardner
Crosbie is/was a very smart man with good political sense. I heard tell that his thick Nfld accent was a bit of a put-on though. Big Blue Machine
What was wrong with his comment about Shiela Copps? It was "Pass me the thequlia, Shelia, lay down and love me again" I saw nothing wrong with it. willy
Good man. A politician of a less politically correct time. Very entertaining . The only thing I can see wrong with him was that he used to be a Liberal.
Big Blue Machine
He wasn't useless, he was the one of the main people behind Free Trade, he got Hibernia for the altantic provinces. He believed in abolishing the senate. He gave the fisherman a copensation program when he shut down the fisheries. His first and last budget in 79 was more progessive than the liberal budgets of the 70s. He gave rights to gays and lesbians. He was main of the main person behind reforming Newfoundland's government. He did alot of things. Big Blue Machine
Free Trade was one of the best thing to happen to Canada. It was "Pass me the thequlia, Shelia, lay down and love me again" I saw nothing wrong with it. Wrong for so many reasons and on so many levels (shiver here). Never knew he was a Lib (shiver here). Big Blue Machine
Just read his autobiography called No Holds Barred. Get it from your local library. August1991
I have stated elsewhere on this forum that Crosbie's book is the best on Canadian politics. Along with Radwanski's Trudeau book or Dafoe's Laurier book or Newman's Renegade in Power. All good reads. (Autobiography and biography are the best route to history.) But then, Berton's Smug Minority is good. Read Mason Wade about French Canada. (I'm choosing English only. Leandre Bergeron is a scream.) As to Crosbie the man, his wife Jane was better. But he stood up to Joey Smallwood, and even his brother. Give the guy credit.
Big Blue Machine
That's what I'm doing. John Crosbie stood up to Joey Smallwood. Then he helped Frank Moores reform the government. Then he blasted the Trudeau government, didn't get the chance to show his true ability as finance minister in the Joe Clark government. It was his suggestion that created the World Trade Organization (WTO). Quote And as I take man's last step from the surface, for now but we believe not too far into the future.
