BubberMiley Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Yes. I believe people (including Hank Jr) have the right to disagree with their government anytime, whether it's war-time, peace-time, or let's all crap our pants because it's 911 time. Guest American Woman Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Yes. I believe people (including Hank Jr) have the right to disagree with their government anytime, whether it's war-time, peace-time, or let's all crap our pants because it's 911 time. Now I know you're just trying to create conflict because you aren't that stupid, and since I've no desire to go there with you, you'll have to find someone else to play your games - or play all by your self. Michael Hardner Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Apparently, Toby Keith said he doesn't care about gay marriage and trying to stop it wastes time and money. The Country Music world didn't explode in hatred, so maybe the country world isn't as said in the OP: "The country music world is the least understanding of LGBT and the issues." Trying to create conflict? If you can't stand it when people disagree with you, you probably shouldn't spend time on a debating forum. Michael Hardner Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Toby Keith didn't come out and directly say he supported gay marriage.. just that he thought there was more important issues like the deficit and that gay people aren't a big deal The article: NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Toby Keith says gay marriage doesn't bother him and trying to stop it wastes time and money. The country superstar tells "CMT Insider" airing Saturday on CMT that he doesn't see the reason behind getting into people's personal lives. He says refusing a marriage license to people because they are gay won't stop them from living together, so it accomplishes nothing. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Anti-Am Posted June 11, 2012 Author Report Posted June 11, 2012 (edited) The article: Show me where he supports gay marriage. He says is it is a waste of time and money to prevent it. It looks like he can live with it like Harper has but doesn't come out to say he supports it. Edited June 11, 2012 by Anti-Am Quote

If you are a country singer you will sing a few songs about god and jesus. That is the target audience. Non denominational churches aren't the majority and the rest teach homosexuality is a sin. God and Jesus applies to a lot of denominations, but you chose to highlight country music instead. "Gay" cowboys have a long history in US media and popular culture just because of your assumed contradiction, which is false. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

I suppose I support straight marriage, but does anybody say they "support" straight marriage ? You could get married, I suppose, but that's going a bit far. It means you believe gay people should be legally able to get "married". Straight marriage is already legal. Tobys position is "well, its a losing battle so we might as well give up and let them get married" That is much different than Carrie Underwood declaring her support for gay marriage. Quote

I think country music fans are a lot more diverse in their opinions than you give them credit for. In a simplified sense, you might argue that country is somewhat conservative...but then, so is heavy metal. At any rate, country music also has a history of populist laments about the plight of the poor, and so on. Carrie underwood is actually near the top of my list... Quote
