jbg Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 What is this? it sounds EEEEEEEEEEEEbil so it must be! It's a Jewish house of worship. From what I just read above, Canada has two, located in Hamilton, Ontario. Your area wouldn't have any. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Michael Hardner Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 George Benjamin My town was quite small (30,000 or so) and we had a Jewish mayor in the mid 19th century, a synagogue and a Jewish population while I was growing up. But there has been flight to the larger cities over the past few generations and sadly there are few Jews in smaller towns today, from what I understand. Guest American Woman Posted April 7, 2012 Report Posted April 7, 2012 I too live in a small city, most would refer to it as a town, and while we do have Jews and Muslims among our population, we have no Synagogues or Mosques; I imagine that would be due to the fact that they themselves haven't had any built, as that's not something that falls within the City Planners' domain. bleeding heart Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 (edited) I have gotten started on that topic many a time. So does Canada have more than one or two synagogues? This has been asked (by yourself) and answered (by others, including myself as "bloodyminded") several times. It's a relatively small Jewish population--relative to only three other nations (Israel, The United States, France). Somewhere between 350 000 and 400 000. Not huge, but clearly suggestive of more than "one or two synagogues." Hell, there's a synangogue in Fredericton, NB, whose total population is just over 50 000. Why the continued pretence? I mean, what are you getting at? Edited April 8, 2012 by bleeding heart Quote “There is a limit to how much we can constantly say no to the political masters in Washington. All we had was Afghanistan to wave. On every other file we were offside. Eventually we came onside on Haiti, so we got another arrow in our quiver." --Bill Graham, Former Canadian Foreign Minister, 2007
