I know I'm a day late (I'm not Jewish so I'm not up to date on these things :P ) but I wanted to wish a happy passover to our new user Doitwell, and to all other members at MLW

I'm Protestant, but my cousins are Jewish...

I once spent Passover at their house when I was 8 oand it was over the same weekend as the Easter weekend...

By comparison, when one is 8,Passover is a little stark...

Compare Motza crackers to chocolate eggs??

NO COMPARISON!!!

Bad idea,Mom and Dad...

You're not a day late. You're maybe 10 minutes late. Pesach started at sundown, April 6, 2012.

A celebration of freedom is stark? How? And at eight you couldn't drink the four cups of wine.

Clearly,you didn't understand...

1.I was 8

2.I'm Protestant

3.at 8...Large crackers that taste like cardboard or chocolate...At 8 years old, which would you prefer?

That's no contest,man!!!

I do remember being allowed to open the front door at supper and I got some Mogan(sp) David...

I get you. But you don't get to look for the Afikomen.

I don't even know what that is...

It was 1978...

I do remember asking my Aunt for a peanut butter sandwich and getting this giant cracker with peanut butter on it...

What a gip!

I wanted to go home...

When you're an 8 year old who isn't Jewish...Easter = Cool...Passover = Rip off...

The Afikomen is a matzoh hidden somewhere in the house (or up there hoose). The finder gets a prize, usually money.

I do remember the search now...

Chocolate eggs are better when you're 8...

And my my cousins will also attest to the fact that they always wanted to come to our house (it's not "hoose"...Only people from Scotland would say hoose!) for Christmas because,as my cousin Paul would say..."It's better!"...

I'm actually impressed that Canada even has Jews. Didn't realize they had more than a nominal number since King thought that "one was too many".

Don't get me started on the indirect complicitness of certain goverments of the period of...say...the early '30's through the '40's that conveniently looked the other way as it relates to the obvious outlines in Mein Kampf...

I have gotten started on that topic many a time.

So does Canada have more than one or two synagogues?

It's a Jewish house of worship. From what I just read above, Canada has two, located in Hamilton, Ontario. Your area wouldn't have any.

I don't know what you're getting at, jbg. Apparently Canada has many synagogues. If you are seriously, sincerely wondering how many there are, this site should help you: SYNAGOGUES IN CANADA

None in Yukon, NWT, Nunavut. One in NL. Not very many it seems.

Like I've said before, I don't know how to read you. At any rate, that site lists the many synagogues in Canada for anyone who is interested.

Edited to add: Here's another - Jewish Canada

My town was quite small (30,000 or so) and we had a Jewish mayor in the mid 19th century, a synagogue and a Jewish population while I was growing up. But there has been flight to the larger cities over the past few generations and sadly there are few Jews in smaller towns today, from what I understand.

I too live in a small city, most would refer to it as a town, and while we do have Jews and Muslims among our population, we have no Synagogues or Mosques; I imagine that would be due to the fact that they themselves haven't had any built, as that's not something that falls within the City Planners' domain.

This has been asked (by yourself) and answered (by others, including myself as "bloodyminded") several times.

It's a relatively small Jewish population--relative to only three other nations (Israel, The United States, France). Somewhere between 350 000 and 400 000. Not huge, but clearly suggestive of more than "one or two synagogues." Hell, there's a synangogue in Fredericton, NB, whose total population is just over 50 000.

Why the continued pretence? I mean, what are you getting at?
