http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/02/15/vikileaks-twitter-account-reveals-embarrassing-details-of-vic-toews-private-life/

A Twitter account that reveals purported details of Safety Minister Vic Toews’ messy divorce has popped up online.

The tweets are a blatant jab at the politician, who, along with the Conservative government, tabled a bill in Parliament on Tuesday that would give authorities greater access to citizens’ personal data online and beef up surveillance measures.

The Opposition, as well as Canada’s privacy commissioner, have slammed bill C-30, calling it an unnecessary invasion of privacy.

“Vic wants to know about you,” reads the description for Twitter account @Vikileaks30. “Let’s get to know about Vic.”

By Wednesday afternoon, the account had 1,790 followers — a number that was growing rapidly.

The tweets have apparently been gleaned from an affidavit from Mr. Toews’ wife. They divorced in 2008.

The divorce came after Mr. Toews, once called the “minister of family values,” fathered a child with another, much younger woman. The posts on Twitter haven’t been independently verified.

You either stand with the Child Pornographers or with a creepy old man who knocked up his children's babysitter and wasn't given permission to see his kid until he was 18 years of age

You either stand with the Child Pornographers or with a creepy old man who claimed to have adored his wife but had years of affairs with his children's babysitter!

You either stand with the Child Pornographers or with a creepy old man who stopped paying child support!

You either stand with Child Pornographers or you stand with a creepy old man who gets free meals and doesn't have to pay for his blackberry bills because he writes them off and the Canadian public pays for them

My favourite was how he charges the $83 maximum (without receipts) for food every day and then goes and eats free food.

Why do I get the feeling Vic is going to retire to his healthy pension soon?

He's a cockroach and deserves to be stepped on, he doesn't deserve free food, a pension or anyones sympathy

Why post this? It may even be illegal.

how so, oh lawyerly one? The OP National Post link actually reprints some of the tweets... numerous mainstream newspapers and online counterparts have reported on the story and fully identified the twitter account involved... blogs "everywhere" are reprinting the tweets. So, again... illegal how?

Good read.

Not sure how much is actually true but I have had enough experience helping out women in divorces to know that it sounds plausible.

I remember I wrote a letter for one woman explaining how her husband managed his affairs in a way similar to Vic Toews' meal per diems.

The settlement ended up adding a variety of his "allowances" to his income and she got a nice big settlement.

It was one of the most satisfying things I have ever done as a tax accountant.

Aren't divorce proceedings sealed?

I do not know the veracity of this link but apparently affidavits are public but parts of them can be sealed.

he's a creepy old man... how old was this babysitter?

Wasn't he nicknamed the "Minister of Family Values"?

This couldn't happen to a nicer fellow....
