Guest American Woman Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Over in Indiana, on the other hand, they've passed a bill that will require creationism to be taught in schools. Although, considering Indiana once tried to redefine Pi, I guess it's not too surprising. It hasn't passed the House, and may not even get a vote: A Senate-approved plan allowing public schools to teach creationism probably will not be voted on by the Republican-controlled House. House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, said he has not made a final determination on whether Senate Bill 89 will get a hearing and vote, but said he believes the General Assembly should not mandate what's taught in science classrooms. "Delving into an issue that the United States Supreme Court has, on at least on one occasion, said is not compliant with the Constitution may be a side issue and someplace we don't need to go," Bosma said. Guest Manny Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Which "God" is your nation under, anyway? The one that gives better weather to the USA. I knew it! He of the cloven hoof!!! Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 President Obama at today's U.S. National Prayer Breakfast: This is my third year coming to this prayer breakfast as President. As Jeff mentioned, before that, I came as senator. I have to say, it's easier coming as President. (Laughter.) I don't have to get here quite as early. But it's always been an opportunity that I've cherished. And it's a chance to step back for a moment, for us to come together as brothers and sisters and seek God's face together. At a time when it's easy to lose ourselves in the rush and clamor of our own lives, or get caught up in the noise and rancor that too often passes as politics today, these moments of prayer slow us down. They humble us. They remind us that no matter how much responsibility we have, how fancy our titles, how much power we think we hold, we are imperfect vessels. We can all benefit from turning to our Creator, listening to Him. Avoiding phony religiosity, listening to Him. God is an American! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Shady Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 Say what? haha I know, it doesn't make sense. Indiana, the state, can't do anything. However, individuals living in said state, can try anything they want. As is the case anywhere. Quote
Guest American Woman Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 This whole thread is ridiculous, as if what happens in the Pennsylvania Congress - one state out of 50 - speaks for the U.S., more specifically the "importance of religion in U.S. politics," representing the direction the U.S. is heading. This thread is evidence of the importance of religion in America to some Canadians, IMO. Then we have an attempt at one state law 125 years ago brought up as currently representative of a state. I guess that makes all the goofy laws still on the books in provinces representative of those provinces. In other words, "it's not too surprising" that Vancouver would have safe injection sites since the jailer must bring you a beer if you are a drunken debtor who got thrown into jail in B.C.; and since it's illegal for a man to drink with a woman in an Edmonton beer parlor in Alberta, what does that say about Alberta? And of course I have definitive proof that Canadians have an identity problem since it's a national law that every fifth song played on the radio must be by a native born Canadian. again a thousand times over. I guess the OP should have presented you a representative example from New Jersey... or Oklahoma, hey? As to the idea that Sharia law could never become an issue in America, as some people seem to be suggesting, this case in New Jersey indicates otherwise. Advocates of Anti-Shariah Measures Alarmed by Judge's Ruling The issue of Sharia law is going to be on the Oklahoma ballot in November: Sharia (Islamic Law) Not O.K. in Oklahoma Quote
