Boges Posted December 10, 2011 Author Report Posted December 10, 2011 No they out bid them They will have to bid to the NHL just like HNIC does at the CBC. Frankly, if TSN and Sportsnet can do it like HNIC (and they dont) I would be ok w it. You clearly have a crayon in your brain. I don't mind HNIC but it isn't sacrosanct. If you had told anyone 15 years ago that the Grey Cup would be on TSN in 2011, I doubt many would believe it. As long as I can remember the idea of an Olympics (sup Ben Johnson) you watched the coverage on the CBC, not so anymore. Things change. Quote
Shwa Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 And you don't think Bell or Rogers doesn't want a piece of that Saturday Night Game? I doubt they can compete with this Media Consortium when the contract is up. Do you think that the other Canadian clubs or the NHL won't have a say? How many Rogers customers are there in Alberta and BC anyways? Hey Peterborough has Cogeco, will they be left out in the cold? Eff you Cogeco and Videotron! Their deal goes until 2014. So nothing will be happening in the immediate future. Of course, now that the Maple Leafs have new owners, they are going to dictate to the rest of the country how it is going to be. You know, they ARE the Maple Leafs after all and people will all tune in on their phones on Saturday nights. Quote
olp1fan Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 for some reason this year leafs have missed 3 saturdays and will miss a few more .. like tomorrow night leafs do not play! really hate that and montreal plays new jersey at 1 pm? who the f made this schedule and nobody wants to watch canucks and sens prime time think ill just finish a season of one of my shows tomorrow night Quote
blueblood Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 You know Guyser, when the League made up the rules about being so close you could drive from Hamilton to Maple Leaf Gardens in about 35 minutes. Speed limits were 80 mph on the QE highway! Now it's more like at least 2 hours most times of the day. Certainly, if you wanted to make sure you could get parked and seated you should perhaps allow yourself at least 3 hours to be safe. What's more, the drive is always a frustrating pissoff! It just frazzles your nerves and boosts your blood pressure. Maybe the League should consider the situation in terms of the real world and how long a trip takes in 2011. It's doubtful if they would, however. The status quo is just fine financially for them. I'm of the opinion now that Hamilton should simply forget about the NHL. They should support their local teams in less-important leagues. Most important, they should completely boycott any Leaf games! Not that it would have any great effect but if the League doesn't care about Hamilton then screw them and the horses they rode in on! Its not about the length of a drive its the geographic area and the pop. In it, and the nhl bog don't care about the border. Its a simple franchise system, the bog decides the optimum place for the franchises to be located. It would be like you owning a timmies and you get to enjoy people waiting in line, but all of a sudden someone else puts a timmies right across the street. If I'm a board member of mlse, I want everyone in southern ontario buying leafs tv, leafs jerseys, and paying thru the nose for leafs tickets. Why would I vote for someone to come in and take that revenue away from me? Unless MLSE put a franchise in hamilton, which the 29 other bog would slap down in an instant. MiddleClassCentrist Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 (edited) Oh, but "Big Telecomm" are separate entities. I'm more concerned about what this says about the telecommunications industry in Canada. There is a reason Rogers and Bell are only really dominant to any degree in some parts of Canada for telecomm. They suck and can only exist/gouge with the CRTC's backing in the guise of protecting Canadian ownership. Edited December 10, 2011 by MiddleClassCentrist Quote Ideology does not make good policy. Good policy comes from an analysis of options, comparison of options and selection of one option that works best in the current situation. This option is often a compromise between ideologies.
Boges Posted December 10, 2011 Author Report Posted December 10, 2011 Do you think that the other Canadian clubs or the NHL won't have a say? How many Rogers customers are there in Alberta and BC anyways? Hey Peterborough has Cogeco, will they be left out in the cold? Eff you Cogeco and Videotron! That's not really the issue. I don't have Rogers either, I have Cogeco. (It sucks balls BTW) BUT Rogers does own Sportsnet and Bell owns TSN and everyone who subscribes to basic cable or satellite has both of those. I'm sure TSN and/or Sportsnet would love to have HNIC, just like they loved having the Olympics. Another aspect of this deal is wireless content. I don't have stats but I'd venture to say that a great majority of people in this country get their cell service from either Bell or Rogers. Quote
guyser Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 You clearly have a crayon in your brain. Not sure where that comes from but uh...ok? I don't mind HNIC but it isn't sacrosanct. As long as I can remember the idea of an Olympics (sup Ben Johnson) you watched the coverage on the CBC, not so anymore. Things change. Never said it was sancrosanct . Just that they are the best! Of course things change, but in this case TSN and SNet still dont do it as well as HNIC. The NHL awards them the rights, and it is not done based only on money. Quote
