g_bambino Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Everyone is presumed innocent in a court of public opinion, just that the trial, verdict, and sentencing move at light speed. So it seems. I'll freely accept MacKay lied. If the evidence is conclusive enough. Right now it's just a bunch jumbled media heresay, political squaking, and ministerial mumblings. Quote

And yes..It's a pretty weenie move... Like I suggested earlier, there’s a fine line between a valid criticism of a persons actions, and that of Libel and Slander………questioning his judgement is fair game, but if anyone saw Rae on P & P the other day, even he has enough grey mater between his ears to not out right call him a liar………Remember after all MND MacKay was/is an Attorney…….Just saying…….. For those not in the loop and their relevance as they pertain to purely posting on a message board: Defamation: Libel and Slander What is libel?Libel is the type of defamation with a permanent record, like a newspaper, a letter, a website posting, an email, a picture, or a radio or TV broadcast. If you can prove that someone libeled you, and that person does not have a good defence (see the section on defences below), then a court will presume that you suffered damages and award you money to pay for your damaged reputation. But going to Supreme Court is expensive and even if you win, you may not get as much as it costs you to sue. In deciding on damages, the Court will consider your position in the community. For example, if you are a professional, damages may be higher. The CPC has packs of sharks lawyers (many are party members willing to work Pro-Bono), and the will and the money to use them……again…just saying…. Edited December 8, 2011 by Derek L Quote

WWWTT Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Wait... you can sue for criticism? Sitting MP's cannot be sued for libel or slander, and everybody knows that! However this shows that McKay and the rest of the conservatives feel that this incident has signifagantly hurt them! Many Canadians are not aware of this and he is releasing this claim of contemplating a lawsuit to make it look like the critisism is unwarranted. The conservatives have done this before and the reform before them WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! Guest Derek L Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Great!! Get 'ol Petey to back up his tough talk and sue!!! Watch the Opposition’s tone change in the days to come…….(They have lawyers too)……and the story to disappear…….Really it comes down to picking your battles and deciding what’s worth making an election issue………Wouldn’t you think the NDP and Liberals would be better served by talking about things that really mater, like the economy & jobs and the Legislation being passed by the Government, then a few helicopter rides, with an actual cost incurred that’s actually measured in the thousands of dollars (For Fuel)? Guest Derek L Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 A opinion piece from someone not usually friendly to the CPC: MacKay plucked to safety from chopper controversy Some highlights: n two sentences, Maj. Reid removed most of the political heat from the controversy. “The flight would have been flown regardless of whether or not the minister was included because the squadron conducts two training events per day as part of a regular routine,” he declared. “In this case, a new flight engineer required hoist training, therefore the training intentions were well matched.” So there you have it. It was a routine flight while MacKay’s hoist helped train a newbie looking for rescue experience and never dreaming it would include the Defence Minister. Quote

olp1fan Posted December 8, 2011 Author Report Posted December 8, 2011 (edited) How is it libel or slander if there is documented proof he has been lying? Derek the issue is not mackay flying its him lying about it for a year covering it up Edited December 8, 2011 by olp1fan Quote
Guest Derek L Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 How do you explain the emails? Read Don Martin's piece: The source is more impeccable than merely being an eyewitness to the exercise. As a retired commander of the search and rescue squadron, Maj. Stephen Reid has no reason to fall on a credibility sword for his former boss. And, bonus, he has enough bureaucratic experience to explain away some of those damning emails, which suggested MacKay was retrieved under the “guise” of a rescue exercise, as a headache-avoiding short cut through the military’s legendary red tape. Good enough for me...... Quote
cybercoma Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Good enough for me...... Peter MacKay's word was good enough for you. Unfortunately, that's not really compelling evidence to contradict those emails. Quote
Guest Derek L Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Peter MacKay's word was good enough for you. Unfortunately, that's not really compelling evidence to contradict those emails. A military PR guy’s advice on optics, versus two operational members, directly involved in the flight, recounting their memory of the flight……..I’ll take the two Cormorant crew members retelling of the events, over advice from a PR guy in an office somewhere in the puzzle factory in Ottawa (Advice that did play true mind you) any day of the week, and twice on Sunday…………Perhaps if the NDP want to press the issues, they should demand the last few years flight logs and see if the crews, do in fact conduct training missions, in some cases twice daily, without members of parliament aboard….. WWWTT Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Doesn’t mean the MND MacKay needs to either………How many in the mainstream media have outright called him a liar? Or the Liberal Party?………See where I’m going with this Ya I wouldn't hold your breath. The law clearly states that a sitting MP can not be sued for slander. Since 2008 there was another enquirey over air bus and I don't think that any particular party is going to get pushed into a corner with the threat of litigation. In fact I wouldn't be suprised to see the opposition turn up the heat a notch or two in the house(where they can not be sued) to encourage McKay to make a move. olp1fan Posted December 8, 2011 Author Report Posted December 8, 2011 (edited) Derek, MacKay wouldn't sue even if they said this outside of QP or the HOC If he sued he'd have to swear to the queen (right? swear to somebody) and thats jail time if he lies..and the evidence is clearly there you can mention those two potential witnesses all you want but who do you think told them to say that? do you honestly believe they just came and said that stuff by themselves? HAHAHAHA This is MacKay backed in a corner..he should've done what Clement did and not said a thing Edited December 8, 2011 by olp1fan Quote
