The GOP: The Party of pain, punishment, misery, and death

Recommended Posts

That Frum article is great.

it is the richest who have the most interest in political stability, which depends upon broad societal agreement that the existing distribution of rewards is fair and reasonable. If the social order comes to seem unjust to large numbers of people, what happens next will make Occupy Wall Street look like a street fair.

Sounds a hell of a lot like what I've been saying for awhile now.

I'm sure if Harper knew he could get away with attacking abortion and gay marriage he would, the GOP does it in the US because that nation is split 50/50 with left and right, in Canada it is 65 left / 35 right

so I guess you could consider Harper GOP material who is just under different circumstances

Nope....PM Harper and his party would have a hard time passing as Republican. I don't know why some of you guys insist on defining everything this way, but it just doesn't work. Should I define and compare President Obama in terms of Ignatieff or Dion or Martin Chretien? Hell no...most Americans don't think like that...we know our guys on their own terms, not half-ass comparisons to foreign leaders.

Obama is more conservative than most of our conservatives, I don't see how you could compare him to liberals from Canada

Nor would I want to....Canada is for Canadians...conservatives, liberals, and commies!

Do you think Americans stay up late watching your election returns?

No, actually a mix of public and private health care has proven to be better, especially compared to Canada, which has the most expensive and inefficient universal health care program "on the entire planet".

Canada HAS a mixture of public and private, and nobody beats expensive like you guys. You also get less for your health care dollars than anyone 'on the entire planet'.

They did that through growing the economy, if you think handing out free money is the way to buy off the lower classes, I invite you to visit a first nation reserve in western Canada and see what dependance on gov't creates.

If you don't have the elite doing their business, everyone becomes poor.

Handing out free money is not the way to go. But neither is stealing from the middle class and poor in order to enrich your already huge wallet.

How much public money is enough? Why should the rest of us keep working if minimum "public money" will be guaranteed to all?

Yeah socialism...equal misery for all!

Yes, the poor, pitiful Swedes in their long bread lines, desperate for a few crumbs and perhaps a cigarette someone left in the gutter.

Or those miserable Fins and their endless slums. Socialism is truly awful.

I'd say more and more people worldwide are getting richer, over the last 20 yrs millions and millions of people recently joined the middle class.

Now if only America could learn from those other countries.

It's own middle class appears to be shrinking, dissolving into the growing ranks of the poor.

The US system doesn't have universal access as a goal, but we are more than happy to serve Canadian patients who get tired of suffering in your line. Expensive and slow really sucks!

Will that be cash or charge! ;)

See...I told you to remember cheap! Thanks for setting that joke up.

Cheap? no, more like some people can't afford insurance because they are working minimum wage and struggle to get by

and when they encounter a major health problem it will be impossible to pay it so to do so they have to declare bankruptcy

I see no joke in this and it is pretty sick that you do

Then how do they pay for health insurance taxes in Canada? Health care is not a right, and it sure as hell isn't free.

Sue me....

Guest American Woman

I know. Even though the majority of Americans want it.

They want it - but not unconditionally. In other words, 'they want it, but....' It's the "but" that makes the situation much more complicated than your simple claim indicates. In other words, your simple claim, as it stands, without any qualifications, is false.

But apparently, what the people want doesn't count for much in the land of the free.

I don't think you really understand what the American people want.

Agreed....they watch American television and think they know it all.

Oh I know what you want. You want to be in a super power with the greatest military in the world, to have a booming economy with full employment, great pensions and health care, top notch highways, a cop on every corner and the world's best schools.... and to pay almost no taxes.

Guess what? You can't have your cake and eat it too. Like the Greeks, you'll discovery, eventually, that trying only leads to bankruptcy.

If you had any real conservatives in your country they'd tell you that.

No way...full employment is never a reality, health care is best for those who can afford it, and the best schools will have to be just good enough to attract more R&D and yield the most Nobel prizes for now.

...and don't forget the best television too...the kind Canadians watch more than their own.

Wrong, the period of the most rapid economic growth was in the late 1800's when income tax was ZERO. Those "high" tax rates in the 40's to the 80's had loopholes big enough to drive a bus through. Reagan in the 80's needing gov't revenue dropped the rates and closed many of the loopholes.

Voluntary investment which means getting a return on investment has proven time and again to be the most efficient way to get out of poverty, hell its how we got out of the dark ages.

Weve talked about this bogus claim before. Growth was high in the 1800's because the population was rapidly increasing there was a gigantic undeveloped continent with and unlimited ammount of work to be done.
