GostHacked Posted June 29, 2011 Author Report Posted June 29, 2011 More on Los Alamos. This has the potential to get real ugly, real fast. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/06/29/wildfire-advances-toward-nm-nuke-lab-raising-contamination-concerns/ LOS ALAMOS, N.M. -- Residents downwind of a wildfire that is threatening the nation's premier nuclear-weapons laboratory are worried about the potential of a radioactive smoke plume if the flames reach thousands of barrels of waste stored in above-ground tents."If it gets to this contamination, it's over -- not just for Los Alamos, but for Santa Fe and all of us in between," said Mai Ting, a resident who lives in the valley below the desert mesas that are home to the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Above ground tents? I'm sorry but...shouldn't people take some responsibility for choosing to live where they do? Perhaps they'd feel safer in a trailer park in Tornado Ally or something. And the residents have been evacuated, about 12,000 from the Los Alamos area. You'd think being a primary nuclear weapons research facility this would be better thought out. thepatrickblack Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 You'd think Los Alamos was in North Korea. Nuclear waste storage TENTS... There are good and bad nuclear plants. Some are old and need replacing. Canadians plants have been giving a passing grade according to this report: http://abetterenergyplan.ca/#/news/Nuclear_plants Quote
eyeball Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 Safety scrutiny eh? So who's scrutinizing the safety scrutineers, the Department of Transparency and Accountability? Get the %^&* out of here. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
