Man this woman is freakin hallarious.

Can you believe this, she's all upset about Harper booting her from the party.

But she still voted against the last motion to find the conservatives in contempt of parliament.

She must be able to turn the tears on like a tap.

Or she is emotionally unstable?

I will say this, she is an excellent example of Harpers dimwited shortsightedness.

Oh God nows shes up there with her baby!I got to shut off the TV!

Bringing her own baby out, that is despicable.

She sould be kissing other people's babies, just like Ignatieff.

Actually, the whole affair is an example of a political party ousting a troublesome and scandal-ridden member when discovering evidence of wrongdoing. As opposed to a political party defending one of its own to the bitter end. This story is an example that reflects well on Harper and the Conservative Harper, despite attempts to spin it as something else. Do you need examples of political scandals from other parties in the no-so-distant past that illustrate cover-ups and lies in order to hide misdeeds of one of their own from the public?

Harper ousted Guergis before any media scandal, and kept her out, as opposed to defending her to the bitter end and covering up for her alleged actions in order to protect the party from guilt-by-association attacks. The Guergis story is an example of a party properly cleansing itself of trouble, as opposed to lying about it in an attempt to save face.

Since Helena Guergis is one of your's, the old Chinese proverb applies: there is no honour among thieves!

Except for the problem that the RCMP found no evidence for the allegations.

What I think happened was that Guergis was a royal pain in the ass to the rest of the caucus and after the whole airport incident, they were all ready to throw her overboard, and along comes some serious allegations and they made the decision to give her the boot.

So hows the "cleansing of trouble" thing going for Harper

From what I have seen on TV I would say that Harper screwed up

One of mine what?

After Guergis realized there was no way back, and apparently no suitable reward for maintaining party loyalty and keeping her mouth shut, she started pulling out the knives against her boss and former allies...does this surprise anyone?

So now, part of the election spin cycle from the Conservative Party is to send their army of lackeys out to trash Helena Guergis far and wide, so that whatever she says will have little impact, both inside the CP, and with the voting public.

Pretty well.

I recall the Liberals for weeks in the House demanding her head on a platter. Imagine for a minute, had Harper not booted her or welcomed her back following a hiatus. But that didn't happen and she stayed out. And now that Guergis has given her teary press conference, they're championing Guergis' cause, accusing Harper of being anti-women or worse. So the Liberals take a position straddling both sides of the same matter, for and against, and now they want us to believe they were and are right on both stances. It defies logic.

I don't think that at the time anyone knew that Guergis would be getting the media attention, crying on TV and holding a baby during the final stretch of an election campaign.

I've said it before and I'll say it again,Harper is no genious!

Guergis might have survived, but the final nail was probably the growing realization that her husband was a coke-snorting swindler who had been trying to use his status as an ex-Tory MP to get special treatment in Ottawa. Maybe not fair to nail her, but if I was PM, I'd be looking for a way to get her gone.

Harper must be pulling every hair out of his freakin right wing head by now watching the CBC.

That's not really relevant, right? Is a political party only permitted to remove members when the RCMP find evidence of criminal behaviour? I'm sure the RCMP has trouble finding a lot of finding, by the way.

That doesn't sound far-fetched. Anyways, the hypocrisy of anti-CPC partisans shows with this case. Initially, the accusations against Guergis were used to attack the CPC with a "guilt-by-association" type of thing. Then, after she was given the boot, there were attacks against the CPC for unfairly kicking her out. See what I mean?

The soap opera of this election is starting to get annoying in any case.

Your statement should be directed to the media giving this person the media attention in the first place.

If the media focuses on the Guergis case, and particularly if it present this case in an anti-Harper/anti-CPC manner, then it'll be just another example pro-Liberal/anti-Conservative bias in our media. The story is irrelevant, and it'd be nice to see some honest journalism (don't even say it...) that investigates statements and positions and platforms, and compares them to actions (or previous contradictory statements and positions and platforms) and to reality.

I don't know where you get the idea the story is irrelevant. It clearly is relevant as the Prime Minister, who is asking everyone to give him the job again, canned her and tossed her out of caucus. So clearly the story is incredibly relevant. What seems to be pissing you off, from what I can tell, is that the story may, and I repeat may, have reflect poorly upon the leader of the party you support. But rather than just say that, you wring your hands and whine and snivel like some sort of pathetic five year old about the big ol' press pickin' on poor wittle Harper.

The best part about this is that I don't really see how it reflects all that badly on Harper. The Opposition wanted Guergis gone. His own caucus wanted her gone. Her husband was nailed with cocaine possession and had been trying to use his connections in Ottawa to get a business venture going. She was by all accounts an abrasive prima dona (that's longhand for miserable b*tch, by the way), a crappy cabinet minister and all in all a growing liability on the party. I don't think anyone should expect a party leader or caucus to have infinite patience with someone like Guergis, or to give her unlimited rope to hang herself, and some portion of the party's credibility along with her.

In the real world, firing someone because of unsubstantiated second-hand claims is not very nice, but politics operates by its own rules. Any party leader, and particularly a Prime Minister, when faced with a member of caucus who is in general a pain in the ass who is pissing off other members of the caucus, who has public hissy fits in airports indicating she's trying to throw her weight around to get her way, whose husband is increasingly being revealed as a drug-using scam artist, is hanging by a thread anyways, and in pops some private eye claiming she's up to all manner of nasty things, and you're damned right she's going to be given the boot from caucus, and faster than you can say "we demand her resignation".
