Harry Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Harper is sounding more and more like George Bush every day. Conservatives ask Elections Canada to nullify votes cast at U of G Wednesday Several University of Guelph students claim Michael Sona, the communications director for Guelph Conservative candidate Marty Burke, attempted to put a stop to voting at the special ballot held Wednesday. The students say Sona approached the Elections Canada balloting site claiming that the process unfolding at the location was illegal and at one point reached for but never took possession of a container with ballots. “He tried to grab for the ballot box. I’m not sure he got his hand on the box, but he definitely grabbed for it,” said Brenna Anstett, a student, who at the time of the reported incident was sealing her second of two envelopes containing her vote. Student Claire Whalen was just about to receive her ballot just before 5 p.m. when the episode unfolded. “That’s when a guy came up and said it was an illegal polling station and that he was confiscating the ballots. And then he tried to take (the ballot box),” Whalen said. Whalen also identified the man as Sona. http://www.guelphmercury.com/news/local/article/517010--conservatives-ask-elections-canada-to-nullify-votes-cast-of-u-of-g-wednesday Quote
Shady Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Harper is sounding more and more like George Bush every day. How does this involve Harper? And how does he sound like George Bush? Looks like we've got a case of the very rare Harper/Bush Derangement Syndrome. Usually it's one or the other, not at the same time. Quote

punked Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 The great thing is how much the Conservative party sees what the people of the United States let the Republicans get away with and try the samethings here. Sorry team Conservative we believe in everyone having a vote not just rich people. Why do people continue to use that silly old cliche? Everyone who knows anything knows that it was the Liberal Party which has always represented the rich, and benefited with fat donation cheques from them and from corporate Canada. That's why they were so devastated when Chretien changed the rules to outlaw big donations. Yep both love the Rich people in Canada and the heck with the rest of us. The Liberals used to get almost all their money from corporations, and those big $25,000 a plate fundraising dinners. The Conservatives have always gotten the bulk of their donations in small amounts from a wide array of ordinary party supporters. capricorn Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Why do people continue to use that silly old cliche? Everyone who knows anything knows that it was the Liberal Party which has always represented the rich, and benefited with fat donation cheques from them and from corporate Canada. That's why they were so devastated when Chretien changed the rules to outlaw big donations. At the time, not satisfied with filling their party's coffers with mega bucks from their well-to-do cronies, the Liberals saw fit to steal taxpayer funds. Liberal greed knew no boundaries. Papa Chretin must have had an act of contrition when he capped corporate donations before his departure. Or was it his way to stick it to the Martinites as a parting shot. As for the U of G matter, parties are well within their rights to question the validity and impartiality of advance polls. Suck it up. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. punked Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 And you have the evidence the rich in the US have four votes instead one? Make it good this time. The Poor and minorities in the US are disenfranchised and stopped from voting with many tactics in the US almost always passed by Republicans. Did you know in the Year 2000 1.9 million votes were tossed out OVER HALF OF THEM WERE AFRICAN AMERICAN VOTERS. Those same voters made up only 12% of the electorate. That doesn't even speak to the voters who are scrubbed from the voter rolls before the election and told "You Can't vote because your name is the same as this person who committed a crime". Then we have voter ID laws passed by republicans which make it so those who do not have a license (Again almost always the poor) are also not allowed to vote. Sorry I know numbers confuse you but it is true if you are poor or a Minority in the US you are going to have a harder time voting and having that vote counted. That is statistics. Quote

Bob Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 (edited) The attempts to liken the Conservative Party, or Canadian conservatives in general, to the Republican party or other affiliates of the stereotypical right/conservative wing in the American context is such an old cliche, and really tells us more about the accuser than the accused. It's a tired attempt that plays on anti-Americanism and prejudices held by some on the Canadian left. In my view, the only people who such rhetoric resonates with are people are already ideologically blinded and partisan. I really can't see middle-of-the-roaders reading or hearing rhetoric referring to Harper as the Canadian Bush, parroting accusations of Bush being anti-democratic (although the 2004 Supreme Court decision was indeed controversial, to put it lightly) and being convinced to vote Liberal (even if only to cast a vote against Harper). It's just stupid and infantile, Harry. Try acting like an adult, and you may get some respect around here. Do African Americans use brown color balots to ID them correctly? What color do Asian American use? And how about American Americans and European Americans? Here is another Example I will take from the US. In 2000 in Florida of the 200,000 ballots that were tossed 55% of them were from African Americas. Now here is where you dumb statement hammers you to the wall. African Americans sure don't color their ballots but most of them do live in the same polling districts. So back to the Florida example Gadsden County has the largest AA population in the state. In that county 1 in 8 ballots were tossed out. Most were tossed because the Optical reader could not read the ballot as cast the voters did not know this at the time they cast their ballot. However One county over in Tallahassee(which is almost all white BTW) almost no votes were tossed out because this county had Optical readers on site that told people before they cast their ballots if the reader could read them. BTW this election was over seen by Republican Katherine Harris. WOW REAL FACTS. Egg must be all over your face. Quote

Hey Scotty. Re-reading that comment it was not aimed at you but at those who are in a tizzy that the Conservatives dared raise an objection over the U of G advance poll. bush_cheney2004 Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Here is another Example I will take from the US. Of course! Oh say can you see.... However One county over in Tallahassee(which is almost all white BTW) Bullpuckey....you have obviously never been to Tallahassee: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallahassee,_Florida#Demographics Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
punked Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 (edited) Of course! Oh say can you see.... Bullpuckey....you have obviously never been to Tallahassee: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallahassee,_Florida#Demographics I was trying to make a point you caught me however Tallahassee is 35.0% AA while Gadsden is Almost double that at 60% AA. My point is still if you are AA or you live in an area which is more AA your vote is less likely to be counted. So you have one country where the Majority is White with no Ballots tossed, you have another with a African American population where 15% of the Ballots are tossed. I think making sure that a person going to vote is who they say they are is perfectly reasonalbe. Now, acceptable identification should be more than just a drivers license so that it doesn't discriminate against poorer voters or people that just don't drive. The problem is, is that Democrats have so frauded the system with illegal voters, that it causes these types of reactions. The Democrat/Chicago election motto of 'vote early, vote often' doesn't exist for no reason. Democrats are also famous for their 'smokes for votes' schemes, as well as registering illegal aliens, dead people and jailed convicts. Quote

Ballots cast from all demographic groups are subject to undervotes, overvotes, spoiled ballot, counting errors, and outright fraud, even for "white people" in Tallahassee, Florida. Right now there seems to be something going on in WI with some Republican who has "Found" 20,000 more voted in almost every election in the last 4 years then their were voters. So don't tell me about Democrats Shady. BTW I think the last person found guilty of voter fraud in the US was Republican right? Quote
