Bryan Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 Why are tax cuts very "Right"? The Ontario Liberal Party is touting their program of tax cuts to provide economic growth. Are you saying that Dalton McGuinty's government is Right Wing? That's a laugh and a half. Not only that, but the NDP government in Manitoba has also been cutting corporate taxes. Down to zero in many cases. Those pesky right-wing NDP! Quote

Scotty Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 Nope, all I'm saying is that "the media" in general know which side their bread is buttered on... Ergo their willingness to mostly ignore certain things, like the Historic event of a Government being found in Contempt of Parliament (aka Contempt of Canadians), This is so much nonsense, you know. The fact the media focused on one story over another has absolutely nothing to do with their political ideology. We are in the era of infotainment, and the media is focusing on whatever they think the viewers will find to be the most interesting. And most Canadians are underwhelmed by the 'historic' nature of this contempt business. They see it as nothing more than petty bickering between the opposition and the government. And the only reason there was a 'historic' vote of contempt is because never before was a combined opposition so politically irresponsible as to officially vote in a 'contempt of parliament' charge against a minority government. Oh yes, yes, the government was also pig-headedly stupid in not doing as parliament ordered, for parliament is supreme. But still and all, in the entire history of English parliamentary systems around the world, do you really and honestly believe that the Tories not turning over all the estimated costs of prisons to be built is the most shocking breach of tradition and law EVER? I think not. The public doesn't see that as a huge and awful, world shattering event and pretty much figures the opposition were just using it as an excuse to force an election. It bores them and so the media found a better show, the squirming, uncomfortable, uncertain foolishness of Ignatieff's doing his pathetic dance around the direct question of a coalition. Quote It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy
GWiz Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 We are in the era of infotainment, and the media is focusing on whatever they think the viewers will find to be the most interesting. And most Canadians are underwhelmed by the 'historic' nature of this contempt business. Oh yes, yes, the government was also pig-headedly stupid in not doing as parliament ordered, for parliament is supreme. Yup... Pretty much what I said... The reason for Parliament being supreme is that Parliament is us, all of us Canadians, it's our voice in our Government... We're not the US where they have three supposedly equal parts of a Government, Executive, Legislative and Legal... We have one, Parliament, it's our only freely elected institution and therefore, we, ALL Canadians, must be equal in Parliament as the supreme institution of Canadian Democracy... The Harper Regime tried to usurp my (and your) rights as a Canadian... There is no bigger story than that for me... To hold the Harper Regime in Contempt of Parliament is in fact saying that the Harper Regime has contempt for Canadians... Now if the "media" had portrayed that fact I think it may make the Harper Regime downfall the main story and a little more interesting to most Canadians... So my question is, why didn't the media do that? Some political bias perhaps? Quote There are none so blind, deaf and dumb as those that fail to recognize, understand, and promote TRUTH...- GWiz
Scotty Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 To hold the Harper Regime in Contempt of Parliament is in fact saying that the Harper Regime has contempt for Canadians... blueblood Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 So the Government didn't, in violation of Parliament's privileges, withhold documents? That's not the issue, the issue is the stacked committee. The committee would have more credibility had there been independents on there. Unfortunately, having a stacked committee with the coalition running it fits right into the coalition advertising campaign. Why aren't canadians as outraged as you are? Its in the media that the opposition dotted their I's and crossed their t's, so why no controversy? Sponsorship created a controversy, why not this? Remember Bob Rae's "deer in headlights" persona when he was suddenly forced to actually govern in Ontario? No actually I don't remember. I remember the 407 getting the green light which opened up the door for municipalities to allow land to be developed which helped the construction industry. I remember Sunday shopping to finally be approved of which helped the retail industry combat "Buffalo shopping" I remember a deal being reached with municipal workers province wide to come up with tax savings and no lay-offs. Actually I remember his provincial parliament being one of the most creative and advanced thinking this province or any other Canadian province has seen.
