Lybia is a socialist/Islamic state not fascist one.

I guess you don't know what fascism means. Innocent people are being shot in the streets. And unless you stand up against this kind of thing, you are going to experience it here in good ol Canada as well.

He wants a Fascist revolt in this country..

He thinks a Francoesque dictatorship is precisely what this country needs...

He also thinks it would be good for Canada as well. Over my dead body.

Have you not read the full name of Lybia?

Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya). It isn't a fascist state it's an Islamic socialist one.

Pretty much a textbook Fascist state, what with the Franco-like strongman and all.

He says he's socialist - do you believe him ? Isn't it more likely that he's portraying himself as a fake 'man of the people' ?

The leaders of the Western democracies don't much like what's happening in Yemen either, or any uprising against tyrant allies and clients. They much prefer the oppressive dictators torturing and killing people than being overthrown by democratic forces.

Of all the Arab states in turmoil right now, Yemen is the one most likely to turn into another Iran. I'm all for democracy, and even accept that there will be anti-Western sentiment due to the West's support for many of these autocrats and tyrants, but if Yemen's current regime falls and is replaced by some Islamist theocracy, neither the west or the people of Yemen will be better off for it.

Ultimately, it's out of our hands, though. The US and the rest of the West no longer is in a position to project the kind of force necessary to prop up "friendly" regimes, and even if they were, I think it's probably politically untenable now. For instance, there's a firestorm brewing in Britain over Blair's deals with Ghadaffi six or seven years ago which saw Britain sell Libya delightful things like tear gas.

It's hard to say what Ghadaffi is. To those loyal to him he demonstrates great largess, but the eastern part of the country, where the tribes are far less loyal to him, have long been deprived of the country's oil riches.

Ghadaffi is just a tyrant. There's no "right" or "left" to it, he's enigmatic, pronouncing one thing one day and another thing the next. The only thing that's ever been a constant about him is that he has little problem killing anyone, conservative or liberal, who openly criticizes him.

I see what you mean. He is a dictator, though, in the end. I don't think we should let his self-descriptions stand as the definition of what he is in any case.

And to mention allowing the Lockerby Bomber to return to Lybia to live out the rest of his life.

Gadafhi's son has warned of a potential civil war. Things are going to get very nasty in Libya.

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/libyans-in-benghazi-mass-for-another-day-of-protests-internet-service-cut-again-116556568.html

Rumor has it that the old man has fled to Venezuela (Chavez is probably the only leader on the planet that would let Ghadaffi in the country, I can't imagine there being any villas in Ryadh for the Colonel). I was reading delightful rumors where some of the sons may actually have been battling each other, that two Libyan fighter jets landed in Malta, and that Tripoli is now facing the full force of the revolt/revolution/whatever it is. You have Libyan diplomats and senior ministers stepping down. Apparently those African mercenaries that were Benghazi have fled to the airport, though apparently the airport is being continually sabotaged so no one can get it.

If even half of this is true, It probably means the regime is done. The problem for Libya, unlike most of the other states, is that there really isn't a constitution of any kind that can at least be used as a roadmap for order. The army has long been emasculated by purges, so it's not in the same position to outright kill the regime as happened in Egypt and Tunisia. Libya's immediate future, if the regime collapses, is considerably less clear than Egypt's or Tunisia's (and it's not as if the future of those countries is all that clear).

Libyan military aircraft fired live ammunition at crowds of anti-government protesters in Tripoli, Al Jazeera television reported on Monday, quoting witnesses for its information

I'm wondering if this has all gone too far. Gadaffi can't kill everyone, and it's already clear that there are cracks in the armor of the police and military. If the unrest has reached Tripoli, and he cannot contain it today, I'd say the regime is done.

I sure as hell hope so, It's coming to our shores soon enough. This cascade won't be stopping /slowing anytime soon.

Looks like Gadhafi may have fled to Venezuela to drink wine with Hugo.

Maybe Bahrain or Yemen. Frankly, I'd love to see the Dentist President in Syria fall, but I'm not holding out that much hope.

Quite frankly in the above 3 cases it appears the lunatics in charge killed off any opposition and if there were any remaining young men they fled to other countries or died from AIDS. AIDS has devestated the populations in these countries as well as death squads.

I have a friend who escaped from Zibabwe into South Africa and then came to Canada. Just being male and a certain age made him automatically suspect.

Its hard to fathom just how efficient these lunatics are at killing people.

When you think of it the revolution so far has been an Arab or Middle East phenomena but with the internet and cell phone who knows. I would like to see it happen in China.

Ooops I am sure I will have Chinese internet police send out my name across the internet having sex with aardvarks now.

That's fine. See if I buy any lead toothpaste or toys from them.
