Their were alot of members from both sides of the political spectrum. Their were members such as Pellaken, Gugsy, Moderate Centrist, Neal, Siriff, Sir Springer, and many others who participated in good debates, and showed respect for each others opinion's. However it seems that it has all gone down hill, when Takeanumber, Maplesyrup, Black Dog, and a bunch of other leftists, hijack this forum. For example pretty well every post is all the same, and most of the leftists make bigoted statements, without backing them up. Somethings gotta change. I'm getting sick of Takeanumber calling anybody opposed to gay marriage nazis, and I'm getting sick of some of those on the left calling anybody that disagrees with them bigot. Sound like you were happy because it was full of a bunch of right wing zealots. Many of us are neither right or left; we like a balance. Helping those who need help; keeping and improving our HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. Building our country to be strong and independent. Not to sell off our ideals for the almighty American dollar. With Harper type of conservative government; the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and the middle income earner join the poor ranks. Slavik44 Posted June 13, 2004 Report Share Posted June 13, 2004 sure when people post degrading comments about spelling instead of concentrating on the arguement and addressing it, the quality has gone down. i remeber my first posts here, I was argueing about how we shoudl not be America's lap dogs, my typing was 1,000 times worse then but no rightwinger tried to tell me how to spell they were able to converse on the subject. So sure it has gone down, doesn't mean it can't go up. Plus it is election tiem so things will get alittle more out of order, it is to be expected. I like most of his posts but if anyone has a problem with personal attacks (including if not especially takeanumber) I agree with Michael, report it to Greg and if all else fails ignore it. Technically if you hold an opinion you can be classified into a group of people holding a simlar opinion, I do not calssify people in accordance of my beliefs but in accordance to their beliefs. I belvie Alliance Fanatic is a right winger, not because we agree with each other alot, but because his views are right wing. I Do not classify Maplesryup as a left winger because we disagree, I classify him as a left winger because his views are left wing. To say you are neither is nice on paper but not true, your views may be sporadic, but your views on one particular situation will lean either left or right. Of course I am an un educated dislexic so I guess my opinions don't count, i guess we must measure people by their education. So often people talk about how conservatives want to eliminate peoples rights and discriminate against them based on certain factors, I don't know if you have said this, but if you have, I would like you to plainly outline what you belive. Takenumber is a drama queen at times, but most of those on the left are capable of actual discussion. Maple and BD are okay, even if they are a trifle too enthusiastic about the left and a trifle intollerent and suspicious of the right. The only ones who really pull down the conversation are the two or three recent ones with numbers after their names - who are probably all the same guy, come to think of it. The likes of Bryant, something13, and someone2 (can't even remember their niks. They(he?) post nonsensical accusations with nothing to back them up and little effort at actual discussion. Snipe at them and move on. And if you think this bunch if bad I suggest you try out a newsgroup sometimes. Well, not to get off topic but - this is nonsense. The poor have been getting poorer, the rich richer, for the last ten years. Time for a change, hmm? Now I can't say for certain that Harper's plans will result in better things for the poor and middle class. But I don't believe he intends otherwise, and I think you're being a trifle silly to say with such certainty that you do. A lot of people are still fixated on this mindset of yesterday even though socialism and the welfare state today are virtually dead. Countries like Sweden, for example, started to recognize about 10 years ago that the welfare state and protection from cradle to grave would no longer be sustainable in a global economy where every nation has to compete in order to survive. The law of supply and demand will always prevail and governments that recognize that they must compete with one another from a tax standpoint will be the ones that fare the best. Yesterdays mindset must be put to rest because it no longer fits the mold of todays world. We need forward thinkers in government if we want to survive. When I first started posting here, I found that Argus and Alliance Fanatic would attack my ideas first (which was good), but then, after my third replies, they started attacking me personally. So, after my 'eat meh' reply, I backed off. I started pointing out whenever they personally attacked me. Of course, everybody jumps down my throat for a statement, and not them. But whatever. I realize now maybe everybody expects that kind of behaviour from them. I believe that the quality of the arguements has definetly gone up since we have more small 'l' liberals, and more Libertarians on the board. I think the loudest people--the Authoritarians--who were the cocks of the walk for so long, are complaining about the lack of quality in their arguements when they stack up to Libertarian ones. On a personal note: To the Argus: Don't make Nazi-esque statements, and I won't infer that you should consider moving to Austria where you'd be much, much more happier. Continue to post your usual veiled anti-homosexual, anti-immigrant tripe, and you will continue to get flack from myself. To the Alliance Fanatic: Same goes for you. I'm also getting a bit sick of some members posting five seperate topics in one day. I also get sick of alot of the people talking about how they as individual represent all Canadian's because they are on the political left. On this forum their used to be a debate about the issues, not a mob of people claiming to represent every single Canadian. Some groups get 'special rights' Alright, so, tell me, what's the difference between first and second degree murder? Isn't an offense 'worse' when somebody plans it out? Isn't an offense 'worse' when it's against a police officer? Eh? Isn't? It sure is. Now, let's consider something else. Isn't it worse when somebody waits outside a gay bar to beat them to death solely because they're gay? Isn't that worse than if a white man gets batted down after, say, a bar fight? Isn't it worse when somebody spraypaints a swastika on a Jews home than when, say, some kid spraypaints his 'tag' on somebody's door? It's not 'special' protection. It's recognition of degrees. When a crime is committed out of 'hate'. When a group is targetted with repeated hate speech (like with neo nazi pamplette's), isn't that worse? Shouldn't the severity of the crime fit the time?
