Shwa Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 IMV, Harper should replace the Face of the Queen on our $20 bill with Jeanne Mance or Marguerite Bourgeois.Harper has the authority to make this change, and Queen Elizabeth's crowned silhouette (or Charles') would still be on the coins. So, we would still have a connection to the monarchy. Marguerite Bourgeoys already has a sainthood and other postuhumous perks while Jeanne Mance has a building in Tunney's Pasture in Ottawa. Laura Secord already has a chocolate factory, all these famous ladies are already imaged on to one thing or another. I say, stick with the male theme, and put on Louis Riel. Quote
M.Dancer Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 .... and put on Louis Riel. Crazy ideas demand putting a crazy person on the bill.... Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

capricorn Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 I really don't care whose face is on bills. It's not like I gawk at the paper currency before it flies out of my hands. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
Saipan Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Not with the way their debt is going. We don't have Spain, Portugal, Ireland or Grece here. So it is far better than Euro. Quote
g_bambino Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 We don't have Spain, Portugal, Ireland or Grece here.So it is far better than Euro. Nobody's talking about adopting any foreign currency as our own, so the comparison is pointless. Quote
bloodyminded Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Nobody's talking about adopting any foreign currency as our own, so the comparison is pointless. It is Saipan's own comparison. Which he then mistakes for an engaged discussion. It's called "arrogance." Quote As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. --Josh Billings

segnosaur Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Too many people hate Trudeau's guts and regard him as primarily responsible for all Canada's ills - and there's a good case to be made for it. The best leaders are always polarising. Funny, he's still chosen as the best PM in Canadian history. Ummm... reference? Chosen by who? And how? And what portion of the 'vote' did he get? I rather suspect that it was less than 50%. Being loved by a minority of people (especially when just as many hate you) isn't as significant as having some people love you, and others be "ok". If he's causing such widespread hatred, perhaps there may be a reason for that. And if you think "the best leaders are always polarizing", then you must have considered George W. Bush to be one of the greatest leaders of all time, considering the polarized nature of U.S. politics in the 2004 election. Sometimes leaders polarize the population because they're not very good, yet manage to maintain a certain level of approval from select supporters. Oh, and by the way, something else to keep in mind: I doubt many people are that familiar with Canada's history for the first few decades. Thus, the 'pool' of people from which people would choose the "best" prime minister is pretty darn small... Trudeau, Mulroney, Chretien, and Harper. Everyone else either didn't last long enough to make an impact (e.g. Clark, Martin) or was P.M. too long ago for anyone to really remember (e.g. Pearson, King, etc.) Quote
guyser Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Ummm... reference? Chosen by who? MLW of course ! http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=1950&mode=show&st= or... http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/639152 And how? And what portion of the 'vote' did he get? I rather suspect that it was less than 50% You are right but wrong. Your math sense is skewed. If one asks Who is the best PM and say hardper got 30% andthe rest of them split the other 70% then Harper wins by a lrge margin. Oh, and by the way, something else to keep in mind: I doubt many people are that familiar with Canada's history for the first few decades. Everyone else either didn't last long enough to make an impact (e.g. Clark, Martin) or was P.M. too long ago for anyone to really remember (e.g. Pearson, King, etc.) I would suggest these types of polls would prove you wrong. Up ther among the elite are Dief the chief, Paul Martin, Kim Campbell (who?) ,John Turner and so on. Wm Lyon Mackenzie King generates interest too....but his habit of talking to dead people kind of slays things. Quote

Argus Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 The best leaders are always polarising. Funny, he's still chosen as the best PM in Canadian history. That's because we let idiots vote. Which, come to think of it, is how he got re-elected. Only the three most annoying ones have a spot on ignore. Ironically, I also have three on my ignore list. Also, completely coincidentally, all three are foreigners. I don't think it would take a great leap to figure out who they are.
