Interesting. I don't see a difference between Rogers and the Teachers. It all comes down to the guys running the team and in the end despite the whining and the complaining, it's Burke and Wilson who run the team, not the teachers.

I think what'll be interesting about this is the fallout a few years from now. There was always scuttlebutt around the city that MLSE and Rogers were going to team up to put up a stadium and buy an expansion NFL team.

The sheer level of compensation Rogers might achieve outstrips OTTP 's by a wide margin.

The Leafs in the playoffs pays the Leafs a ton (all profit) and the OTTP gets a bit of that.

With the Rogers Leafs in the playoffs, the ad revenue would be astounding causing related premiums for ad rev to go way up.

I see a big difference, YMMV.

One is a content provider and deliverer of content, the other is an institutional investor.

Two things that don't matter in regards to this story and one that does.

1) The ability pf the Leafs, Raptors or Blue Jays to win games

2) The future of an NFL franchise in this city (well, tangentially it matters)

what does matter...

1) The literal monopoly of Toronto live sports content over radio, TV and internet as well as streamed wireless to to Rogers Cell phones nationwide.

What it means is that CBCs Hockey Night In Canada without the Leafs....or, HNinC moves to Rogers stations across Canada.

It means as a provider of wireless streaming content they have an advantage over Bell (not to mention CTV Bell Globe Media)....

This is a pivotal acquisition that will either set Rogers as the premier media enterprise in Canada or it will fail miserably. And I have been trying to see ways why it can fail and so far I have come up with nothing.

Yeah, I T'd that one up didnt I.

Hey, we are still relatively young , .....dumb....hopeful.

Young is the market they want...for example, iPhone guys....how many would sign on to rogers for the exclusive opportunity to watch NBA or NHL (or NFL) on the super phones?

Probably lots.

But I bet not you...nor me, so much for young.

You have a far better idea of the revenue stream this could provide than I./

I can only widely guess....but while I think $80 is a lot for cable, internet and wireless, we had a young thing in our office whose monthly wireless bill was over $150...and didn't even blink at that. By contrast, her boss, who has a BB with roaming etc..pays less than her...

Kids are willing to pay to watch TV on a 4 inch screen...why? No idea.

This would be a great thing. All of the things about Toronto that piss me off the most would be concentrated in one company !

Listening to an interview with Ted Rodgers...He said..."I can't retire...I am having to much fun"......now that nature has retired the old bastard - I wonder if the having fun policy within the corporation will endure? I hope there is more to the Rodgers upper and middle management than having fun..now about having a purpose...other than MONEY to have FUN with...such an immaturity that exists in the high corporate mind...and just think...once they have had their fun...the next step will be BIGGER fun..and that is worrisome.

The size of the screen doesn't matter that much and you can have your 4 inch mobile device with you anywhere.

Toronto can't even run a CFL team, why on earth do they think they could do any better in the NFL? Wait a minute, this is the same city that has the Leafs, won't matter how bad they are.
