Topaz Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 Well, the Tories now have control over the Senate and I don't think this will be a good thing if there is only going to be DEADLOCK at every turn! If this was Harper's plan to change the Senate to either terms limits or get rid of it, his plan may work if the Senate can't come to some sort of agreement on the Bills that pass through. Reminds me of Snoblen's scam, if you need a crisis then create one. I don't know how this will set with voters when they see nothing getting done in the Senate and at times, in the Commons and if could back fire on the Tories. http://www.ottawasun.com/news/canada/2010/11/27/16341221.html Quote

Its funny to liberals and lefties moan about the senate when reformers, and alliance members wanted to reform it to a EEE system. Even mulrooney tried to change it only to have trudeau (the idiot) get in the way. Maybe the left of this country are brain dead fools for not taking up senate reform before a deadlock happened. Its funny to watch you whine and moan.....I laugh at you, but if your your looking for real reform why not take up the eee cause many on the right would work with you. Smallc Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 Maybe because we don't all favour EEE. I personally think that Harper should have appointed some non Conservatives, as has been done in the past. The fact that the Senate is now in Conservative control is not a problem though. Quote

Why the hell should he appoint non conservatives. when was a non liberal/liberal friendly NDP appointed by a liberal? If you want non conservatives/non centre right senators vote the CPC out of government or better yet reform the senate and vote in the senators you want. Alta4ever Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Well, Paul Martin and Pierre Trudeau for starters. Who did they appoint that caucuses with the conservatives? Smallc Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 (edited) Who did they appoint that caucuses with the conservatives? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Canadian_Senate_appointments_by_Prime_Minister Paul Martin Appointed 12 Liberals, 2 Conservatives, 2 Progressive Conservatives, and one NDP member (and the NDP didn't accept, so she was an independent). Pierre Trudeau appointed 70 Liberals and 7 Progressive Conservatives. If Harper wanted to show that he was actually going to represent people with the Senate, as he wants to, he could start by appointing some people other than Conservatives. Smallc Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 I am surprised with Paul Martin. I'm not. He was probably the most fair PM we've ever had. I'm more surprised at Trudeau. Quote
