You realize that geographic size also is a consideration. Geographic size has something to do with it. South Korea is about the size of Southern Ontario. If not smaller.

And has 2 times the population of all of Canada, it also happens to be a gateway to China.

Nepal

Burma

Burundi

That is just a start, not to mention the countries in Latin America.

Ottawa has already closed several embassies and consulates in Africa in recent years, including those in Malawi, Gabon, Guinea and Cape Town, South Africa. If the latest cuts are approved, it would leave Canada with embassies in less than one-third of Africa’s 53 countries. Brazil, by comparison, has embassies in about half of Africa’s countries.

“No doubt that we are witnessing an ‘out of Africa’ strategy,” he said. “We’d be cutting more and more of the bridges between Africa and ourselves. It would cause doubts about Canada’s declarations of friendship to Africa.”

Yah that statement means nothing to me. Of course a shut down or a cut would mean more work for those who are there, never said it wouldn't but that is the reality of todays world. The employees of the Canadian government have to get better at what they do because their isn't more money.

Those who do business in Asia are going to be happy when you move resources into Asia the question really is where do we need the resources? Like I said we need them in Asia where they want our stuff not in Africa where they don't. Or find the money and keep them both. We are offered the "only progressive alternative to the Harper government" – that supports all of Mr. Harper's key policies.

We are offered the only environmental crusader – who supports unlimited development in the tar sands. The only crusader for peace – who supported the Iraq war.
