GostHacked Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2010/09/15/dnt.la.massive.fish.kill.wwl?hpt=C2 Cnn video showing hundreds of thousands of dead fish in the Mississippi. Could be just the low tide as they indicate in the video, but with the sudden disappearance of the oil in the Gulf spilled by the DeepWater Horizon explosion, where did it all go? Several million barrels of oil and over 2 million gallons of dispersant used in the Gulf. And are we now seeing the impacts on the environment we were hoping to avoid? Or is this just the low tide thing? If we see more of these kinds of reports then it's sure as hell not just a one-off. Time will tell. Quote

And even if "we" did, there is nothing very practical to do about it. Hope you get the ginormous disaster "we" were wishing for but never happened. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

How is this fish kill more relevant than any other? What do you want "us" to easily see? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Hope you get the ginormous disaster "we" were wishing for but never happened. No one can really say, can they? Some of it has been eaten, but I don't know too many scientists who are going around proclaiming "There was no disaster". With the amount of dispersement chemicals used, it's going to take a lot more looking to sort out what happened to the oil. And certainly the spilled fouled up a lot of marshland, so critical to the Gulf fishery. BP ain't off the hook. Not by a long shot. Quote

Hope you get the ginormous disaster "we" were wishing for but never happened. It was all about the optics - cosmetics...The oil should have been allowed to float as oil naturally does no water..the oil should have been allowed to be seen...the beaches should have been allowed to blacken - that way All the oil could have been collected and sent to Alberta - where the tar sands faciltity could have processed the stuff..but NOOOOOO...BP - and the American governmental weasil decided to poison the public in order to save face...once the oil was sunk to the bottom - it entered the food chain and now will enter us! They went on about the economy and that the soiling of the stupid beach would cost money in lost tourist traffic...that was such bull shit....The simple fact was that it was cheaper not to have a propler blow out preventer and high quality piping...It was cheaper to use a few million bucks of "dispersants" than to let the oil wash ashore where it could be seen and accessed and cleaned up... What the hell was wrong with our and your governement - It was clearly stated that this type of "dispersant" was banned in the UK...why was that? NOW it is clear - because it was not that the chemicals were that hazardous - it was the fact that sinking the oil..was the real hazzard... Forget the garlic butter - now you can dip your shrimp into a cancer causing petrolem.... Here is something of a story - I had a neighbour years ago - the oil tank leaked into the ground water - and some got into the well - in un-tasteable trace amounts - FIRST HIS DAUGHTER DEVELOPES A CANCER AND DIES - THEN HER BOTHER GETS THE SAME DISEASE - AND THEN THE WIFE - the family was almost lierally wipped out from this insidious molecule - that BP and the suck ass AMERICAN government - failed to pretect the public from.... SHAME ON ALL OF YOU GREEDY NASTY MEAN SPRITED BASTARDS...A POX ON YOUR HOUSES. Quote

Some of it has been eaten, but I don't know too many scientists who are going around proclaiming "There was no disaster". Disaster for whom? Economic more then ecological? What has been the impact of similar "disasters"? With the amount of dispersement chemicals used, it's going to take a lot more looking to sort out what happened to the oil. And certainly the spilled fouled up a lot of marshland, so critical to the Gulf fishery. But "we don't know" the actual impact in totality yet. Fisheries have been purposely decimated without an oil spill "disaster". BP ain't off the hook. Not by a long shot. I think they are...in any meaningful way. The cost of doing business has been adjusted accordingly. Most of the political angst has been eclipsed by the reality of hydrocarbon production and consumption. Gulf residents would rather have the jobs, far more than any offered by the fishery. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

It's also going to be many years before consumers look at fish and shrimp from the Gulf with anything but suspicion.
