M.Dancer Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 So sending them back to Sri Lanka solves that problem how? Seems to me that letting them in gives them a better chance. Because they are needed there to rebuild their nation. They are not needed here. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
nicky10013 Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 You own a sweat shop by chance? Could it happen? Sure, but there's a better chance of it not happening here rather than in Sri Lanka. So, please, give it a rest. You can't even contest that point. Quote
nicky10013 Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 Because they are needed there to rebuild their nation. They are not needed here. According to you. Somehow I don't think you're the authority on that. So forgive me if I accuse you of being full of shit. Quote

nicky10013 Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 (edited) Ummm...the 40Gs were to get ON the boat. Yeah, paid to Sri Lankan smugglers who would sneak them out of the country. It has nothing to do with people here. The only connection are the families who raise money for them to get out. Edited August 17, 2010 by nicky10013 Quote
M.Dancer Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 . So forgive me if I accuse you of being full of shit. No problemn. DogOnPorch Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 Yeah, paid to Sri Lankan smugglers who would sneak them out of the country. It has nothing to do with people here. You actually think they paid the full amount each? If so, why didn't they take a cruise ship or a Jumbo Jet? A more likely scenario is that a small percentage of that 40Gs was paid to the Tamil Mafia types at the time of boarding. The rest to be worked-off in someone's 'family business' in Canada. capricorn Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 From what I've heard, these people have documents, just not legal exit visas because, well, they were fleeing an oppressive government that didn't want them to leave. It won't be long those Tamils who are granted refugee status will be applying for travel documents to visit relatives in Sri Lanka. The best of both worlds. PoliticalCitizen Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 Because they are needed there to rebuild their nation. They are not needed here. They came here to avoid persecution, discrimination and extermination in the country that used to be their home. No chance to build or rebuild anything when you're in a refugee camp. Uhhhh, the last time I checked they weren't jumping any queue. They're not illegal, or can you not (probably refuse to) understand the rules? Quote

Or are you one of those who thinks every tamil is in a refugee camp? Nope, but most of them are. The scary thing is you think we're naive that all of them are in a camp. I think it's naive for you to believe that most of them aren't. That fact alone makes refugee status a fairly convincing case. If most of your people and family who aren't already overseas are being herded into camps, maybe it's a good thing to get out. History is history, and it usually repeats itself. Quote
