Anyhow, for Michael , TD Gen rate increase has been approved at 27.3% TD Home and Auto almost 14% rate increase. They hooked enough in, now saddled with losses that they cannot sustain, ergo, welcome to the club TD. Mo,hang on to your policy until next renewal and then get many many quotes....you know who to call if you want.... Quote

His toe hold grp on historical reality and his musing out loud for a NAZI/Fascist global empire if the Allies had sided with Hitler instead of Stalin did'nt help his cause... guyser Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 I did the online search thing and they beat all comers by about 25%, for my situation at least. Maybe next year it will be different. Funny thing about those online quoters, the quote provided is almost never the same as the policy premium end result. So many variables that arent accounted for but get found out in underwriting is the prime reason. Secondly, who owns the quote engine...maybe TD ? (They dont but some apparently do) FSCO does not allow the roll out of increased premiums for sometime after an insurance company files them. I understand some of the sentiment expressed here, but the reality is not so much the fraud as it is the providers of care, the clinics, the chiro's and all the rest of them. Here is a fact...of an avg $14,000 bodily injury claim, $9000 of it is fees to the above. And since we seem to live in an 'entitlement' age , if someone does not realistically need therapy, they will be offered it "free" and the same to all the people who were in that car. Post 9-11 rates went thru the roof. But a funny thing happened. So many people were afraid of making a claim that they paid for the damage to their own vehicle. The end result was the ins industry had a stellar couple of years. So much so in fact that rates went way down, even below what they were pre 9-11. There isnt an actuary who could predict a "fear of making claims" rate. Quote

My previous insurer had an 'agent' assigned to me, whom I only spoke to when I had to renew - who called me, apparently, from her car. The TD system is a 1-800 call centre where they take my information and gave me a quote. So it`s lower overhead. At least it seems that way to me. Bryan Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 There should be a non profit public option for EVERYTHING that the government creates a legal requirement for. Otherwise price gouging is guaranteed. Move to Manitoba. Our car insurance rates do go down regularly, especially if you're a long time accident/ticket-free driver. We even get rebates if the insurance company's profits go over a certain level. When we do get increases, they are usually very small. Quote
P. McGee Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) Why would anyone want a policy like that? If you own a 100K car, you are not going to want an insurance policy that doesn't cover it. Or are you simply trying to penalize the affluent? Maybe I wasn't clear. I was talking about caps on legal liability only, not a limitation on what policies could be offered, and in the context that at least some drivers would not be required to have any insurance as some others have advocated here. Why exactly should someone else be liable for inflated repair and parts costs that are out of proportion to the actual damage, just because you overpaid for your particular car? You would still be free to purchase extra collision insurance on your own car to cover the difference. I don't believe this is penalizing the affluent (some of whom actually don't drive very expensive cars), but shifting more of the extra costs associated with such vehicles to those who choose to purchase and drive them. So in other words you are arguing that drivers need not be responsible for the damage they inflict. Why not move that to other insurance categories..lets say I am a world renowned surgeon and as a result of an accident due to anothers actions, my hands are damaged...instead of compensating me based on my income potential, compensate me as if I was a receptionist. Orn how about this....a 747 is on the tarmac and is damged by the airports ground crew...they backed in in the hanger and knocked off the wing...now the average plane is not a 747 so instead of paying what it would cost to fix this, they pay what it would cost to fix a cessna. Not at all, I was suggesting a different method of assessing such damage to determine legal liability, and only in the limited context of damage to road vehicles themselves. Quote

I agree that's the way it works currently. Don't forget the cases of priceless glass figurines you had in the trunk, those should help rack up the claim even more. All these inflated claims just add to the cost for everyone else who drives. Quote

M.Dancer Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 Enlighten me. First off, whether it is figurines or a balsa wood car, the value attached to it isn't what you may have paid but what the book, or appraised value is. And if the repairs are for a 1990 lada or a 2011 Bentley, the costs must be in line and in keeping with the norm for those repairs. This point you keep bringing up, inflated costs, resides mostly in your imagination. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
