nicky10013 Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 For a party that espouses honesty and openness and values optics even more, voting against this sure sends the wrong message. The vote only passed by 3 votes. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/mps-vote-to-trash-ten-percenters/article1502697/ Quote
Smallc Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Thank God. Now if only they'd eliminate the wasteful mail sent within constituencies. Quote
DrGreenthumb Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Thank God. Now if only they'd eliminate the wasteful mail sent within constituencies. Good job, anyone want to bet on how long it will take for the Conservatives to ignore this order of Parliament the way they do with everything else that doesn't suit them? Quote
Smallc Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 I don't think they can in this case. The motion changed the way the internal economy of the House of Commons works. Quote
BubberMiley Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 That's a relief. Nothing worse than having to pay for direct mail garbage that fills your mailbox with your tax dollars. I can see why CPCers are silent on this issue, and why the government voted against it. They were, by far, the very worst offenders when it came to this crap. There's truth in that statement, next election vote out the newlies and we save money in pensions BUT it has to be within the next 2 years, 6 years and they can collect at 55. Quote

If the Conservatives can ignore clear Constitutional requirements that Parliament can compe any government to provide any documents, I don't think the Conservatives give a damn about anything Parliament has to say. Born Free Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 ...I wonder if those flyers were also used by Harper to smear Paul Martin suggesting that he supported child pornography... Quote
Mr.Canada Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Not a big deal. We can pay for our own delivery. If not by direct mail then by door to door by volunteers. The Tories aren't cash strapped like the other parties are. I'm sure the opposition will make as much political hay out of this as they possibly can but at the end of the day it'll hurt the other parties more then it will hurt the Tories. Probably because you live in a Conservative riding. The whole point about 10%ers is that you can send mailings out to citizens outside your ridings to the equivalent of 10% of your ridings population. If you're a conservative, what would be the point of sending out a propaganda letter to another riding that's already conservative? MPs can send out letters to their own constituents for free already. I live in a Conservative riding and have never recieved a Conservative 10%er. Quote

KeyStone Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Wrong as usual. I live in St Pauls. Yeah, I live in St Pauls too, and I've never received a Conservative mailer. I suppose the domination of Carolyn Bennett in the riding, was one of the factors. Anyways, aren't ten percenters supposed to be sent out to adjacent ridings. There aren't any ridings even close to St Pauls that are Conservative. Quote

Its a way to maximize reach and frequency...and a great way to reinforce brand loyalty be sending more "propaganda" that the lone MP could. St Pauls is a bell weather riding. It hasn't always been Liberal. There was once a real foxy PC there...Babs McDonald... Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
