wyly Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Any proof to post on the "victim" front yet? Remeber just like in a court of law. No victim = no crime. So until you post a verified victims name for us it didn't happen. Second hand info or gossip doesn't count. The socialists will try to make political hay out of this as much as the ycan then it'll be forgotten. which will all be moot canadians don't like being lied to...the Harper government will be tried in the ultimate Court where 2nd hand info and gossip counts a Federal Election... msdogfood Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 The Liberals should get touched by this one. Everybody responsible. That is fine we need to see all the info asap! Quote
msdogfood Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Canada's former chief of defence staff Rick Hillier slammed a diplomat's testimony that all detainees transferred by Canadians to Afghan prisons were likely tortured by Afghan officials, saying it's "ludicrous." An interesting read... Especially after watching Hillier's bullshit blustering.... Read more: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/11/25/hillier-detainees.html#ixzz0hydOqvVV GLOBE STORY Ottawa knew of alternative Afghan prison-transfer plan The Harper government has always insisted it heard no warnings of torture risks facing Afghan detainees in 2006, but documents show that in the same year it was carefully following a NATO campaign to take responsibility for captured prisoners away from the country’s notorious intelligence service. A memo obtained by The Globe and Mail shows that in 2006 the federal government was briefed on a lobbying campaign by NATO allies aimed at getting the Kabul government to create stronger safeguards for detainees after prisoner abuses elsewhere. its sad that the PMOS did nothing!! msdogfood Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 Be honest. Here is a list released yesterdaythat the Harper government did not know about. Further...here is a list released yesterday that the Chretien government did not know about when they decided to avail themselves no longer of the US run facilities. What the Liberasl were thinking when the decided that US failities were politically troublesome is anyones guess. The pmo did know as well as DND & foreign affairs to. Quote
Born Free Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 BF. The documents have been blacked out for reasons of national security. There is no proof at all that he's hiding anything except what he needs to keep secret in order to keep Canada safe. ....safe from getting caught in a lie... Quote
eyeball Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 The documents have been blacked out for reasons of national security. Political security is more like it. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
Born Free Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 its sad that the PMOS did nothing!! True enough but sad might be somewhat of an an understatement. The only way to sort this out is via the public inquiry route. Perhaps General Boyle could be of some help. He had all of the answers. There weren't any cheap ways to deal with detainees except the one selected. The longer term consequences of turning them over to the Afghan police to be tortured was thought to be the least bad option. It will prove to be not the cheapest in the long term either. All of the options discussed were bad. Dropping the farmer or the guy found in the wrong place at the wrong time into an Afghan jail to be tortured is an outstanding recruiting tool for the Taliban - and all of his tribe might be persuaded to be not too kindly disposed toward the government too. There are lessons to be learned here......... - Do not hope to create democracy in an illiterate, medieval, tribal culture. - Do not pour billions of $ into a corrupt society and hope to reduce corruption. - Do not try to stop farmers from growing dope over there while we keep buying it here. - Do not hope to capture the hearts and minds of folks whose fingernails have gone missing. - Avoid bombing Afghan weddings to advance the hearts and minds project. - Read about the Vietnam "Phoenix Program" to see how well that advanced the hearts and minds project back then.
