wyly
You forgot Bumper Hitching. ya, there was spot by our school where the buses slowed down enough to grab on and take us for a nice slide....
M.Dancer
You forgot Bumper Hitching. We used to call that skitching...hitch a ride to the bus and skid along...
eyeball
We used to call that skitching...hitch a ride to the bus and skid along... In the summer we used to step up onto the bumper of trolley-buses and hang on where the line from the trolley fastens to the bus. Yep the haywire shit kids could get into is downright scary. I imagine kids still get into the underground storm water systems and such in TO. I also recall being chased back out the subway tunnel extension north of Eglington Ave on Yonge St by security guards or some such thing when it was under construction. I ducked up a manhole to hide and about a half hour later I could see that my two buddies got caught. I saw them being led up the stairs of 53rd Division of the Toronto Police. I could see them through the holes in the manhole cover. 53rd Division was on Yonge St in those days but apparently its been moved. Anyone from the westcoast ever walked around the outside of a ferry when it's underway at full speed? I wouldn't recommend it when there's another ferry passing by. Man did we ever get in big doo doo when the skipper of the passing boat reported us. So...how about the choking game?

wyly
It's called "bumper jumping". Bumper Hitching or bumper dragging where I grew up, I suppose it's the same game all across the country just with a different name...bus drivers really got pissed at us.... eyeball
hmmm I remember chopping each other on the neck to cause the other person to pass out...strange things we do as kids... Yeah that's pretty weird alright. Sleeper holds were the anesthesia of choice in my neighborhood. I think the gateway down this particular path must open up when kids deliberately make themselves feel dizzy. When I was a really little kid I remember zoning out on all the weird patterns I could make by squeezing my eyes tight and pressing in on my eyeballs. Then I discovered I could make just about any word turn into rubber and lose its meaning by repeating it over and over. It was the weirdest thing.. Nothing however has ever matched the experience of time dilation that I used to have when I played baseball, especially if I was pitching. As far as risky behavior goes I honestly can't see much difference between hanging onto the back of a bus barreling down Yonge St. and doing a triple sow-cow off the deep end of a ski-jump. My wife is particularly proud of the Mother's Day card our son gave her, its a picture of a bunch of kids looking up into the sky and it say's; "Having listened well to what their Mother'd told them, they were perfectly content to just watch the other kids jump off the bridge". I guess the difference was the kids in Toronto used handguns, versus the kids from small towns who just used long guns.

I recall my brother shooting his pellet rifle at a stop sign or something out his bedroom window where we lived on Yonge Street about 35 years ago. A cop drove past just when he popped off a shot and they made eye contact... 5 minutes later a swat team swarmed up the back stairs and just about gave poor old Mom a heart attack when they came through the door. As far as I know my brother is still grounded. I'd already given Mom's heart the stress test when I sauntered in with a friend's 8' boa constrictor wrapped around my neck and head like a turban. Mom just about beat both of us to death with her broom. Edited March 4, 2010 by eyeball

eyeball
How on earth did you go from King of Kensington to Beachcomber ?!? I must have had an instinct that Toronto was going to be the death of me. There was too much trouble to get into.
