Very true. Which is kind of sad, but i suppose is just the natural way things are because the US is such a huge influence on Canadians in so many aspects.

That's Canada's choice....Mexico doesn't seem to have so much of this Yankee neurosis.

Not wanting to sound overly liberal but multi-culturalism actually works in time..our experiment was and will be successful. The American melting pot experiment is an utter failure- they still have negro dialect- we all sound the same and on the more polite levels of society-- our skin makes no difference--where as in AMERICA they still refere to the Presidents qualifications as black-- we do not have black in Canada- we are all white--- in time and we do not have Afro Canadians- just CANADIANS!

Riiiight. That's why there's no mention at all of the fact that Michaelle Jean is the first black Governor General.

But not the first black vice regent. Lincoln Alexander beat her by about 20 years.

He was also the first black MP, elected as a Conservative in 1968.

Lincoln ALEXANDER...was black and we do not mention it very often- he had more political prowess than the GG---get over it and respect the fact the you folks are ignorant intentionally--look at CNN reporting on the riots in Paris a while ago refereing to the blacks as AFRO-AMERICAN protestors--- these black immigrants have no origin what so ever in America- you should get rid of that division called AFRO.

Also when AMERICANS use the term AFRO- American as compared to other Americans, what they should be saying as have not Americans- all prolems are monitary and the sooner you admit that they are not cultural then you might have some progress down there. At present you do not have real health care because it is all about money and not people.

You sure seem to know a lot about Canada for an American. Are you an ex-pat ?

There are tons of Canadians who know the workings of AMERICA ..and there is a gram of AMERICANS who know the workings of Canada...american woman is that gram.

Canadians can move among Americans sans detection, until they say they have to go 'oot'. I think American Woman is from Michigan, and I wonder if she's one of those Canadian wannabes I have met from the Northern US. Nothing wrong with that, of course.

SHE can come up here for the culture and civilized attitude and we can go down there to get some money..fair trade I suppose.

And how often do we mention that we have had 11 black Lt. Governors, the first as far back as 1868? A Lt. Governor is not comparable to the POTUS.

....you should get rid of that division called AFRO.

How 'bout we consider it when you stop referring to "visible minorities?" B)

Nope. While I love and respect Canada and would be proud to be Canadian, I am first and foremost a proud American, and always will be. :)

I don't think you can really explain Canadians or Americans. I think you lose something in trying to define the differences. But I do think they are there. It may sound like a cop out to say that I think we do have a distinct culture without making any effort to define it, but I do think each nation has its own flavor, even in something as seemingly similar as contemporary music. For instance, I think Canadian and American bands have distinct sounds from each other. I think Canada has its own....feeling.

"Visible minorities"- that's me...being the only white guy on the subway makes me extremely visible ....or in truth invisible. When will they stop using that term minority when the numbers no longer fit? I am the minority and they call me the majority - when there is less of me than them?

Also, fried food, drugs, great movies, southern rock, dirt bikes, cheap booze. Get out your shopping list, Oleg, the Duty Free store is coming up.

I guess the Americans are useful to us in a limited pleasureful way. Fried food...mmmmmm...and that show I watched about the 600 pound Texans who have body fat removed surgically signifys what greed and lack of benevolent generation is all about..when you see a super fat man or woman you know that they stole more energy than they needed and now they lay like motionless crippled bobbs..THAT is what America is about--My dad had one saying regarding true civility.."There are others"- to the AMERICANS..THERE ARE NO OTHERS AND THAT IS PROBLEMATIC IN THE LONG RUN FOR THEM.

What a load. The only reason people 'hate' Americans in the west, and particularly in Canada, and even in the US itself, is you pay far too little attention to the misdeeds of country's like China and Russia, to name the big ones, to know the difference. Not to mention all the little pissant countries where atrocities happen on a regular basis. A big disaster happens in the world and who do they either wait to come along or blame for not coming soon enough or not at all ? Not China. Not Russia. You know what you know about the US because of common language and proximity. You know little of or hear little of, China or Russia because of the lack of common language and proximity.

Basically, you don't know how good you got it living next door to us or living where you do and what you have.

Harner IS Canada. Fact. Check with him. That's all you need to do.

I don't think the countries are so much different, as I have said. For that reason, I'm out... i.e. I'm not Canada.
