Michael Hardner Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 No, it's not Hamlet. It's a new development at Copenhagen: Leaked 'Danish text' overshadows hope in Copenhagen By Colleen Kimmett December 8, 2009 11:31 am 1 comments Yesterday, we had high hopes for Copenhagen. Today, the conference is in disarray. A draft climate agreement that was leaked to The Guardian is causing a stir on the ground and in the blogosphere. The agreement -- known as the Danish text -- is a secret document that was worked on by a handful of people that includes representatives of the U.S., U.K. and Denmark, according to the Guardian article. It was intended to be a working framework to be adapted by countries over the next week. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner

eyeball Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 (edited) Actually, it's almost as dramatic as Hamlet. What will happen now ? Nothing I suspect. Emissions will continue to grow at an increasing rate and the effects will continue to be felt more quickly. Our economy and the environment will collide head-long into one another and the resulting human die-back will resemble that which many species are going through. We should probably start thinking more about adapting but I think its still worthwhile discussing ways to turn the tide however hopeless that appears to be. The reason I say so is that the record of where we've made our mistakes may help people in the future when faced with other global challenges that require collective action. I'm not referring to mistakes in our technology but the flaws in our ability to govern and rise above ourselves. Assuming there are any, I actually suspect distant future generations will look at us with real pity. I often have a hard time contemplating the sheer number of human beings that have lived their entire lives lost in the abject confusion of superstition and ignorance. I doubt if ignorance is as blissful as people think. Edited December 9, 2009 by eyeball Quote I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical criminal
eyeball Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 At the end of the day and for better or worse, our species is just another evolutionary factor that the planet will take in stride. I suspect its like this on most planet's on which technological species evolve. The results of SETI aren't really all that encouraging in this context. August1991 Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 (edited) The chairmen of two key U.N. panels released drafts that could form the basis of a new agreement, condensing 180 pages of dueling proposals into eight. Almost immediately, small island nations countered with their own outline. The Danes are expected to put forward their text tomorrow. China, India, Brazil and South Africa are busy drawing up a new list of must-haves that they call "nonnegotiable." NYTSince the Left has unfortunately taken over the question of environmental protection for its own partisan purposes, I will go out on a limb and make a prediction about the outcome. In typical Leftist fashion, they will argue endlessly and in the end, they will do nothing. Leftists love phrases like "solidarity" and "consensus". I will stand corrected but Copenhagen has the potential to defy even a PR version of "accord". Edited December 12, 2009 by August1991 Quote
