Oleg Bach Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 I have been stopped by police a couple of times in my life. I was never asked for ID but they did ask my name. The last time was about 14 years ago. I had been at the local pub drinking and I was walking home quite gunned. They asked my a few questions, where I was, what the pub is like... where I was going where I worked...they gave my a lift home, and watched to make sure I was able to unlock the door. They were friendly, I thanked them, waved and went to my apartment. I asked them on the way why they stopped me. They said there was someone breaking into cars in the area whose description sort of matched my appearence.... The thing was, I had this big bud of sensimilla burning in my pocket... Now that you have gone on the list of undesirables and the non-compliant - you will be getting a vist from the men in black at any moment....what was that? I could swear I heard a knocking a the door..did you hear that? Better open a window....wait ----no - don't go near the window - paraniod yet? - ooooh no - the phone is ringing - don't answer it ......better make a peanut butter and bannana sandwhich and get that blood sugar back up ---wait - the fridge is bugged and there is a camera hiding behind the that old cabbage in the bottom drawer..damn - what are you going to do now - this is terrible - makes you wonder why you smoke that shit? Wilber Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 The person walking down the street is not obligated to have I.D, but the officer is. While dragging your heels is never a good approach, "Why are you asking me for ID, when I am not obligated to have it, but you are?" is a perfectly legitimate response. Maybe not but at least it might keep you out of the local morgue with a John Doe tag on your toe if you get run over by a truck in a strange city. Not carrying ID as well as the address of where you are staying and a local contact number is just dumb. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
tango Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 (edited) For the disinformed ... Gates did show ID, not only ID but proof that he lived in that residence. Then I believe he challenged the cops on their manner and their manner deteriorated to the point where they "invited him outside" where they could arrest him, since they could not arrest him in his own residence. Still much to be desired in the behaviour of the cops in that case, imo. I have a hobby-interest in residential architecture and sometimes wander around neighbourhoods and stand looking at houses. It has occurred to me at times that I could be reported for suspicious behaviour, but it hasn't happened yet. Edited August 17, 2009 by tango Quote My Canada includes rights of Indigenous Peoples. Sure...everybody and their grandmother knows what happened.....without even being there....including Obama. Edited August 17, 2009 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
M.Dancer Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 While the cops are trained to be pushy and get compliance, they are quite limited in the obligations they are allowed to place on you. As I said before, it is not a good idea to drag your heels, but you can if you want.Watch how this video plays out. They should have detained on the ground he's an asshole. Oleg Bach Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 They should have detained on the ground he's an asshole. I can see that. - If you want positive results from law enforcement- show respect and care and you are more than likely to get the same back. Quote

Gates initially refused to show his ID, and accused the police officer of racism. He got testy. That's why the police officer reacted the way he did. Quote

That's why the police officer reacted the way he did. He did everything but call the officer "boy" - Just like the some of the people in Israel. They hated the Nazis so long that they became what they hated - the Obama phenomena was much more rapid....some blacks percieved his electoral success as revenge. Quote
