kimmy Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 was prominently featured in the terrific movie 500 Days Of Summer.(This fun video is not from the movie, but does feature the song, as well as a guy doing yo-yo tricks in a variety of San Francisco locations.) -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
kimmy Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 A while back Wild Bill expressed interest in what the kidz are listening to these days, so I thought I'd give him an update. The new(ish) Kasabian record, "West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum" has been more or less grafted to my CD player for about a month. The record spans from punchy pop/rock tracks: Where did all the love go? ... to some intriguingly odd songs: I'm On Fire Their earlier records had some standout material and some forgettable material, but I enjoyed West Ryder from start to finish. Just about everything on the record has something unique and interesting about it. And, I recall you like Pearl Jam, so you might enjoy as well. It's from the soundtrack of the movie "Into the Wild", which I have not seen. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
GostHacked Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 My wife thinks the exact same thing.Ever see the South Park where they think a goat is Stevie Nicks? My friend has a huge lot with bushes and stuff, and he has goats. I showed up one time and asked him why he had Stevie Nicks locked up in the back yard. I got a blank stare. I had to do some explaining, and he found it funny afterwards. South Park is great . But for the most part I can make out 98% of her lyrics. I have the knack for figuring out lyrics of people who cannot sing or enunciate properly. All except some of Bob Dylans stuff. I don't think anyone has anm idea of what he is saying. For songs that stand out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oR-VGMuiAI I've loved this song since it came out and yet there is a connection with it I can't understand. Quote

Solid potato salad, and let's have no Yak Yak Solid potato salad, boy, take a plate, fill it up, bring it right back. The farmer said to the spud, your skin looks slightly pallid, So I'll dig you later bud, with some solid …potato salad. Take a plate, fill it up, bring it right back. Take a plate, fill it up, bring it right back. Solid potato ….salad, it'll be so fine that you better latch on, Solid potato ….salad, whatever it takes get a plate before it's all gone. The farmer said to the spud, your skin looks slightly pallid, So I'll dig you later bud, with some solid …potato salad. Great song, Gosthacked. Sometimes we can't really figure out the connection - its just enough to know it is there. I've also always liked that one. I appreciated it even more once somebody old enough explained to me what "I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac" symbolizes. Now living in a community with busy summer beaches, and seeing the deserted beaches after Labour Day, the imagery of abandoned beaches now means more to me. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

Oleg Bach Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 "How many times do I have to tell you that I'm sorry for the things I've done" Why - sung by Annie Lennox....when the Deva album came out this tune used to move my soul..I was such a hard ass who controled his emotions to an extreme - I would put on "Why" in the car and drive down into the city ---as I drove I was allowed the luxury of a few tears..it was healing...a song has to give you something - not take something away or rob you. Quote
kimmy Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Okay, hit me. It was explained to me that the Cadillac was emblematic of getting old, selling out, going corporate, becoming The Establishment, and basically "turning into your parents", something the Deadheads swore they'd never do (didn't they?) It symbolizes the loss of youthful idealism and innocence and naivety... it's a metaphor for the the rest of the verse, which goes: A little voice inside my head said "Don't look back, you can never look back." I thought I knew what love was, What did I know? Those days are gone forever, I should just let them go... It all fits with the feeling of loss, regret, longing for the good-old-days that the song evokes. For me, the most powerful metaphor is the abandoned beach... I feel that twinge each day as I walk on the beach and remember that just a few months ago it was packed full of happy people and now there's nothing there except dead leaves. Anyway, if the topic of the thread was lyrics that paint powerful pictures, I think The Boys Of Summer is an outstanding example. I am glad Gosthacked mentioned it. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
