well again, these countries were only racist when they were in contact with OTHER NATIONS...

you fail to grasp that without proximity or interference or mixing... none of this racism is possible.

The racists were the aggressors in all occasions.

laughable,

how can a country that is 99.7+% homogeneous have "racism"?

Read a few articles, like the one I posted. Look at Islam for example. Sunni's and Shites have been at each others throats for wuite some time. Both groups have almost identical cultures, religion and society and yet they fight amongst themselves. There can be racism among a similar group of people.

Logically it cannot, racism can only happen when people of different races try to live in the same nation...

Define race? Which you tried in another thread and failed. It has to come down to culture. All whites are part of the same 'race' that is caucaision, but we all have different cultures. Enough to go to war over it as well. What you are refering to is the Japanese culture and not the Japanese race. They sometimes mean the same thing, but can be exclusive to each other.

How could a Japanese person discriminate against someone of the exact same ethnicity, culture and race?

Seems it is quite easy. Blacks that have the same culture seem to be killing each other in the streets of cities like L.A. So you tell me how they can be racist against each other. Because that boils down to different cultures among the black population. If you want to tell me how a black can be racist against another black, then you have your answer as how a Jap can be racist against another Jap.

So again, racism is a non-issue in Japanese society.... sure Japan may retain a very low opinion of Blacks and other minorities... but, as rational people... they don't try to live with them or interfere with their lives... they are intelligent enough to know that sepeartion and non-intervention make the best neighbors.

Sure it is an issue. Like the one article I posted (I am sure it is not the only one) shows that there can be racism among a mostly homogenous society. Just because government does not report it, does not mean it is not happening.

Being proud of our differences and finding out we are really not that different from each other is kind of fuzzy thinking.

Acutally it is quite the truth. That is quite clear to me.

Basically, race is part of self identity. In discussing the Japanese I wouldn't say they are racist but they have a strong identity of themselves as a people. This is what you would call being "proud of their differences", but you see that pride as being racist and exclusive.

Exactly. I see a difference between being proud of who you are and being a racist. I am saddened others cannot see the same thing. I can be proud of who I am without thinking I am better than everyone else. That black man I lived with from St. Lucia was always proud to be who he was. We would sit around the kitchen have a few drinks and talk about each others culture and history and life in general. He was a proud black man, I am a proud white man.

If you can't tell the difference .....

The idea of "we have to love everybody and then everything will be fine" sounds very nice and noble but in reality we have our affinities and alliances, and our experiences and education that invite prejudices and biases.

Ah so, you are pre-conditioned through education to be prejudice before you even know anything. Part of the reason why I say the powers that be benefit from pitting one against the other.

I have never been to Japan but that is what I have learned about them from reading and my, admittedly limited, personal experience.

Japan is in my top 5 next desitnations to visit. Egypt is going to be my next stop, then Germany, Australia, Japan and ... Iceland.

OH shi ... forgot about that one.

Forgive me for goin all Oleg on you all, however :

You know how many times I got called Nazi when I was a kid? Lots. What did I do? I brushed it off because I knew they were just ignorant. Some may have a problem with being called ignorant. I used to work for this inventory company when I moved to Ottawa. We had a Checz on our crew. He was ont of those guys, called me nazi, blah blah .. jew killer. blah blah .... so one day he got in my face about it in front of the rest of the crew, he was trying to mask his hate on me by trying to be joking about it, but it got tiresome.

Him "You fruckin germans, evil germans, killing all those jews in the camps n stuff .. rant rant rant..."

Me "Dude, sorry, it's kind of our fault, we thought they were Checz'.

The reaction from the rest of my coworkers indicated I had nailed it. He never talked to me again. :D

In canada about, 23% of advertisements actors are black or mulatto... yet blacks constitute perhaps 2.3% of the total population of canada... a major over-representation.

Forced proximity, interference or mixing is a source of racism.

ah-ha! I just knew there must be a reason why racism is actually caused by socialism!

The racists were the aggressors in all occasions.

Racism was not the leading factor in their aggression. Conquering new worlds and hegemonic control over the people and territory was the prime reason. Inferiority of any conquered race, i.e., racism, was more of a justification for domination.

The English were probably the most successful because they allowed the indigenous people to maintain their cultures for the most part and only changed their politics. The French tried to make everyone Catholic and speak French.

The people who were conquered were likely to be racist as well because they resented the foreign imposition, claiming they stole their land and all that.

Do you think that as long as they are not assimilated they will be racist.?

In my view, as long as they are considered different citizens than the rest and they defiantly defend their heritage and culture within Canadian society racism is evident on both sides of the fence - and there is a fence.

You're so smart. :D

It isn't the cause, but the collective institutionalization of racism is preserved in law. Injustices are genrally the cause. Collective racism can and does exist in societies but left to evolve things will eventually work out. Make laws regarding race and it becomes an enforcement of racism and makes it, in the eyes of the citizens, right.

Learn to read. The last few posts were directed at Pliny which I stated. What you quoted from me shows just that.
