Smallc Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 We used to steal music...we haven't for more than 2 years, and we never will again. I don't mind paying for the songs that I want. Quote
Bryan Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 lol...ouch. Moral of the story: If you're going to steal music, just shoplift it. Much softer penalties. Of course, none of this is a concern to Canadians, as downloading for personal use is not illegal here (yet). Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 ....Of course, none of this is a concern to Canadians, as downloading for personal use is not illegal here (yet). ...but distribution may be more problematic...unless they live in China. I don't know why anyone needs to tangle with any of this when internet radio at decent bitrates and ID3 tags is available for "free", not to mention YouTube audio/video promoted by the record labels. As long as you don't distribute, no worries. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

bush_cheney2004 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Which is what he said.... so long as it's for personal use, it's not illegal here. Wrong...he said none of this....which does not exclude problems with distribution....hence the distinction. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Sir Bandelot Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 We used to steal music...we haven't for more than 2 years, and we never will again. I don't mind paying for the songs that I want. There is no music, only "products" made for the purpose of business. Quote

Argus Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 Which is what he said.... so long as it's for personal use, it's not illegal here. We're already required to pay a special tax on DVDs, CDs, Casettes, and I believe other recording media in order to compensate the recording industry for percieved losses from pirating. To my mind that means I've already paid for the music and have a perfect right to it.
