The courts finds that "Al Franken received the highest number of votes legally cast and is entitled under Minn. Stat. § 204C.40 (2008) to receive the certificate of election as United States Senator from the State of Minnesota." This means that when Franken is ultimately seated, the Democrats will have 60 seats and be able to beat any Republican filibuster if they stay completely united (though good luck with that, obviously.)

Why do you say again? He lost the election on Nov 4th, and lost the first re-count. It wasn't until he started to "find" extra votes in all kinds of places that he finally came out ahead. More votes cast in Minnesota then there are eligible voters. Chicago politics Minnesota-style.

Yes, Minnesota is corrupt. The Governor should not sign the papers for Franken. If he does, Republicans should punish him for giving the Democrats 60 seats in the Senate.

Is that for real, more votes than actual eligible voters? Why aren't we hearing about this from news sources?

Unfortunately, it's all too real.

This helps explain why more than 25 precincts now have more ballots than voters who signed in to vote.

Funny Coleman brought this up in the court case and it was thrown out. Funny your burden of proof is much lower then that of Supreme court eh?

Are you disputing the fact that there were more ballots cast then eligible voters in Minnesota? It's fact. The dispute was what to do about it after the fact.

Do you mean Franken should have won by even more?

No. It seems, for whatever reason, that when a Democrat asks for a recount, they always find many "extra" votes, in the gosh darn, most unexpected places.

Oh well, Sen. Stuart Smalley's gonna have a tough time getting re-elected, minus any similar "extra" vote finds scenarios. His approval ratings are already pretty crappy, and he hasn't even taken office yet.

Yah can you believe it. An idea like Counting all the votes in a democracy? How dare they think that should happen.

That is why Coleman should never have conceded ever and why Pawlenty should not have signed certification. This is going to hurt Pawlenty with the base and another Republican will find himself answering questions for the corruption in his home state that can't deliver a Republican win.

I have no problem with counting all legal votes, just not illegal and duplicate votes, like the kind counted for Sen. Smalley.

Mr. Franken trailed Mr. Coleman by 725 votes after the initial count on election night, and 215 after the first canvass. The Democrat's strategy from the start was to manipulate the recount in a way that would discover votes that could add to his total. The Franken legal team swarmed the recount, aggressively demanding that votes that had been disqualified be added to his count, while others be denied for Mr. Coleman.

But the team's real goldmine were absentee ballots, thousands of which the Franken team claimed had been mistakenly rejected. While Mr. Coleman's lawyers demanded a uniform standard for how counties should re-evaluate these rejected ballots, the Franken team ginned up an additional 1,350 absentees from Franken-leaning counties. By the time this treasure hunt ended, Mr. Franken was 312 votes up, and Mr. Coleman was left to file legal briefs.

Going to say the same thing as I said in 2000; When it's this close, you can be pretty much sure that half the people support each candidate and the other half oppose so, other than recount until hell freezes over, just flip a coin cause it really doesn't matter.

Then they started counting legal votes which were set aside by challenges by Coleman and he lost. I can challenge every vote that should have been counted and win the first canvas too. You don't seem to get that in a democracy only republican votes aren't counted they count all the votes.

The Supreme Court in Minnesota was unanimous in its opinion that Franken won. Bush didn't come close to getting a unanimous verdict when he "won" in 2000.

Even Republicans in Minnesota are saying the system was fair and transparent.

But ultimately, for both, it's irrelevant now how they won anyway. Winning is all that matters.

Yes he did...see Bush v. Palm Beach County Canvassing Board. This ruling set the stage for the subsequent split decision victory.

Many Minnesotans grew weary of the whole affair with Coleman and Franken, wishing neither to take office. In retrospect, former interim Senator Dean Barkely would get even more votes.
