Topaz Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 It seem the US is going to go with"Buy American" first then think about trading with Canada. I understand the reasons behind it, the US is in a very bad situation and could ended up like Russia was back in the late '80's early "90's but they must honor or honour their treaties. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...ml?hpid=topnews Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted June 8, 2009 Report Posted June 8, 2009 Don't worry.....Canadian mayors will save the day and teach those American bastards a lesson. Still, it will be a neat trick to win a trade war that has Canada with a $46 billion positive trade balance with the Great Satan. Good luck...... Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

People who deal with the devil - or make deals with the devil - think they are very clever - in the end the devil (Great Satan) always rips you off - and Canada always wonders and says..."Hey we had a gentlemans' agreement - what the hell are you handing me the short dirty end of the stick for"? - Surprise - that's why America is called the Great Satan - them crazy Muslims who are no better recognize evil intent and cunning - Canada foolishly fears and trusts big brother - who as B C said - the Eddie Haskel of the world. Bonam Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 I think the leaders of Canada and the US will be able to come to some agreement that avoids a "trade war". Call me an optimist I guess. Quote
Topaz Posted June 10, 2009 Author Report Posted June 10, 2009 I really understand the reasons behind "Buy American". The country is really really in big financial trouble and if they can't fix it, I would think their $$ will become worthless. They agreed to the free trade agreements and have to obey them or I guess try to change them. Quote

No "they" don't....."they" can simply walk away from NAFTA, just like the ad nauseum threats we hear from Canadian politicians come election time. Fact: Canada cannot win a trade war with the United States of America. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Smallc Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 (edited) She's right, neither country would win the trade war. Canada would have to quickly find new markets (almost impossible), and the US would have nowhere to get alternative goods from. Edited June 10, 2009 by Smallc Quote

Our energy would sell anywhere - and tagging other items to the deal would make things move quickly I would bet you a drink - when you are old enough - in the bar of your choice in your home town taht canada recovers far faster than the amricans Borg Quote

Smallc Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 So negative - where is your spine? Our energy would sell anywhere - and tagging other items to the deal would make things move quickly We could sell anywhere, but at current, we don't have the capacity to get to market easily. I think we should be developing that capacity (and we are, but it would be nice if the pace was increased). Quote

Smallc Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 Aircraft would be less useful for what we need than pipelines and highway infrastructure. Quote

Smallc Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 We spend billions on a great many things. Oh, and the navy will be getting new AOR ships. We should find out soon what is being done. Quote
Smallc Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 None of this takes away from the fact that as of now, the two countries need each other. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 None of this takes away from the fact that as of now, the two countries need each other. Tell that to the mayors who threw down the "Buy Canadian" gauntlet. Canada wants an equal share, even when it is only a tiny fraction of the North American market / population. Americans know who there father is. They are not bastards - just as we know who our mother the queen is but are not quite sure who dad might be.. They are not bastards - just as we know who our mother the queen is but are not quite sure who dad might be.. No worries...being called "bastards" is a good thing, despite Carolyn Parrish' naive mindset. It is a compliment! When it comes to matters of business or wars, Americans are delightful bastards indeed. That's part of the appeal. If you want to put a smile on Dick Cheney's face, call him a "prick".
