Thornton, the band's singer, took issue with Ghomeshi's introduction to the interview, which included references to the star's career as a Hollywood actor, director and screenwriter. It will probably be a bigger deal tomorrow when the U.S. media goes after him for being a donkey. Quote

kimmy Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Thornton Booed at Massey Hall He's upset that Gomeshi asked about his acting career? Geez. If Thornton wasn't an actor, his band would be one more of thousands of little bands nobody has ever heard of. He wouldn't be on CBC in the first place. You can't use fame you earned as an actor to get attention for your band and then get mad when people are interested in your acting career instead of your band. Jared Leto studiously avoids using his acting career to promote his band. Although, he's not nearly as well known as Billy Bob. -k {"Hey, Carl, what are you doing with that lawnmower blade?" But Billy Bob who? I think his "fans" were waiting for Willie Nelson. Jian Ghomeshi - bring on Tom Petty. Quote
bill_barilko Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 I wonder if Willie hired him to open on the tour because his name is Billy Bob? Quote
jdobbin Posted April 11, 2009 Author Report Posted April 11, 2009 I wonder if Willie hired him to open on the tour because his name is Billy Bob? He has just cancelled his tour. I wonder if his bandmates have had it with him. Quote

capricorn Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 I think if I were Jian, I would have stuck to questions about Angelina. A good question for Billy Bob would have been: "About the vial of Angelina's blood you carried around your neck, did you give it back after you two got divorced or did you drink it?" Billy Bob Thornton should have known better -- being impolite doesn't fly for Canadians. The actor "musician" and his band, The Boxmasters, have canceled their last two Canadian tour dates with Willie Nelson following Billy Bob's now-infamous radio rant of d-bag awesomeness, according to an announcement on Willie's website. But Billy Bob didn't just end his hissy fit in the studio. Apparently he went on stage later that night, in front of an all-Canadian audience, and called his interviewer an "asshole"... for, you know, asking Billy Bob questions. The canceled shows might stem from the fact that Billy Bob said Canadian audiences were boring ... or because actors are usually terrible at playing music. http://www.tmz.com/2009/04/11/canada-to-bi...b-no-thank-you/ Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Sir Bandelot Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Well looks like he did find a way to get Canadian crowds animated after all. Go home, yankee Quote
daniel Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Billy Bob called Jian Ghomeshi an "a--hole" and Canadian audiences just sit there. Maybe Canadians don't like his "music". When Barbara Walters was on "Q", she interrupted Jian Ghomeshi at one point to say that he was an excellent interviewer. So who has more clout Barbara Walters or Billy Bob? Quote
Michael Hardner Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 So who has more clout Barbara Walters or Billy Bob? With Jian ? I think he's the one with clout. I'm impressed with how he handled himself with BillyBob. Will it hurt Jian or the CBC ? I think that it will distinguish the CBC as not being just another spout in the celeb-publicity plumbing system. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
Shakeyhands Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 He has just cancelled his tour.I wonder if his bandmates have had it with him. They didn't look too thrilled with him during the interview... my guess is that they are thrilled to be playing and have a grasp on reality, un like BBT. I think that it will distinguish the CBC as not being just another spout in the celeb-publicity plumbing system. It certainly won't hurt Ghomeshi or the CBC. Nobody has any sympathy for spoiled celebrities and their diva antics. Ghomeshi gets a bunch of publicity from this. I notice that as of this week he's on at 10am rather than 2pm; not sure if that's a promotion in radio-land. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

And yes - the 10AM slot is a promotion in CBC radio land. The 2PM slot is for pilot projects. Most of the hosts that get that slot are axed and we never hear from them again. fellowtraveller Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 If you watch the clip....... Gomeshi also comes across as a dick... and increasingly so as the 'interview' proceeds. At first he pretends that he had not heard of the arrangement that the interview was not to be about Thornton as an actor, when pressed Gomeshi admits he knew that going in... and so forth. And I doubt that Thornton and his mates quit the Willie Nelson tour, you could bet money and win that Willie told them to take a hike, he doesn't need the aggro.
