Approval ratings go up with ease and a promise is done with the same ease. The easy way out is no way out. If it smells like poop it's not honey...it's poop! There is a wise old saying. "Why do you doubt?" - it means why do you doubt your own God given human perceptions? Once the state an or crimminals get you to doubt yourself even a bit...confusion breaks out and the potential victim becomes less stead fast and more maluable...the Americans are muss after Cheney The Cruel got though with them...they are a beaten people...who do not have the will or energy to decern the difference between reality and truth - between fact and LIE. Shady Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 despite congress recently passing one of, if not the, biggest tax cut for lower to middle income families in American history. That simply isn't true. A one time tax rebate isn't akin to a tax cut, especially for people who don't pay those taxes. It's called welfare. The Reagan income tax rate cuts, and the Kennedy income tax rate cuts were real, and much, much, greater. And the Democrat congress may get a short-term bump, particularly from Obama's popularity coattails, but it won't last very long. President Clinton gave America, "the era of big government is over", and now Obama gives America, "the era of big government is just beginning." Quote
Shady Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Yeah, uh, they weren't allowed to read it. Exactly. The 1000+ page bill was released for inspection at midnight the day before it was voted on. Voting on said bill started at 10am the next day. So I guess, if one stayed up all night, didn't eat, didn't sleep, didn't do anything else at all, and read 100+ pages an hour, they could have just gotten through all of it, in time to vote a few minutes later. Fact is, Obama broke several of his campaign promises. He didn't provide a 48-hour window for legislation to be read and inspected. He also promised that legislation would be posted online for a 5 day period, so the public could also read and inspect. Instead, he demanded it be shoved through congress because there was no time to waste. And then he promptly left Washington for the weekend to go on a Valentine's Day vacation with his wife, and then came back to sign the bill tuesday. Well, Mr. President, why couldn't congress have used the weekend to read the bill more carefully? Why? Because he's the crisismonger-in-chief, and the more congress would have read of his porkulus bill, the more votes he would have lost. Hope n change. Quote

How many of them voted for the one they could read none? There was going to be no change this time. Don't pretend there was. PS in the stimulus the pay roll tax on the middle class was cut. That is a long term sustainable tax cut which puts real money in the hands of people. I hope the Republicans are going to keep the line they are against it. Oleg Bach Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 How could this manner of passing a bill be legitimate or even remotely lawful? To pass a bill that is not inspected is to pass a bill that is unknown to the passer. You may as well draw up a bill that states the eating of your neighbours cat will be permissable if one of the neighbours is to lazy to go to the store to buy snack food...crispy cat critter chunks....maybe would not be so bad..deep fried. Really - how can this be - to blindly enact laws that are presented to a blind man for approval with a no brail preamble. Quote

Oleg Bach Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Ask the patriot act? The infamous patriot act was a reversal in terms. It was actually the pro-traitor act.... much like homeland security was actually the fatherland insecurity generating act...I get the drift...and they say there is no Santa Clause...or orgainized crime in high places. Shady Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 PS in the stimulus the pay roll tax on the middle class was cut. Where in the porkulus bill is the pay roll tax cut? And, if the pay roll tax was in fact cut, how does that solve the solvency of social security, in which pay roll taxes specifically fund? There's already a huge unfunded liability related to future social security costs. So basically, Obama's borrowed almost a trillion dollars from the Chinese, and made the social security solvency problem even worse by cutting its funding. Congratulations Mr. President! Quote

The thousand plus page bill wasn't just dumped out of no-where on the republicans. The original version that was voted on a week before in the house had been available for review the entire time. So, while there were modifcations that you would have to keep up with, the basis of the bill and lots of the original spending ideas were in the original bill presented to the house. And three republicans not only managed to keep up with the changes in the bill, they were instrumental in adding new ones and tweaking old ones. These three didn't just have to read the bill, they had to intelligently interpret it and modify it. Why is it they can actively participate in the generation of this 1000 plus bill with no problem, but other republicans can't even read it? Does anyone honestly believe that, given another week to read the bill, a single republican would have voted differently? I don't think so. Quote Apply liberally to affected area.
