Ontario Loyalist Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Well, does anyone think it will happen? While watching the Inauguration, some of the commentators were talking like it was going to happen today... but whatever the case, it almost seems inevitable what with the symbolism with Lincoln, Kennedy, and MLK and being a visionary, etc... While watching the Inauguration, some of the commentators were talking like it was going to happen today... but whatever the case, it almost seems inevitable what with the symbolism with Lincoln, Kennedy, and MLK and being a visionary, etc... Let's pray it never happens but, IF it did who would benefit? I say that Clinton would. If they get rid of both, Prez and the VP then Clinton is in line for Prez. Bill Clinton had more people die under his presidency. This all depends on who Obama peeves off the most and it will probably be someone within the country. Kennedy, had the oil industry, the military, the mafia, Cuba angry at him. Of course, IF some group planning this would never be caught they would use someone else as the person who killed them and Obama and Biden would have to be together for it to happen. Quote
Muddy Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Heaven forbid! Never in history has one man inspired so many people around the world and I think that is a good thing. But I also think the bar has been set to high for him and many will be disappointed . Many will be disappointed that he did wake up in the morning addressing their country. He will after all be thinking first and for most of the American people. I wish him God speed and hope he is kept safe. Quote

Ontario Loyalist Posted January 21, 2009 Author Report Posted January 21, 2009 Let's pray it never happens but, IF it did who would benefit? Who says there has to be a "benefit"? Mr.Canada Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 I personally don't think much will change. In the first year yeah maybe but after that, the old boys will take over. The president is a figurehead, like the queen. A PR guy nothing more. He will rarely make a decision. bush_cheney2004 Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 So why exactly are you putting "assassination" in quotation marks? Because you used a word that only adds political context to what is just another murder or attempted murder. Has nothing to do with "vision", and the US Constitution anticipates the loss of a president to more than a dozen contingencies because attempts are not that rare. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

kimmy Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Any US President has enough enemies to make him a target for assassination by somebody or other. One thing that was noted yesterday is that while other recent Presidents have made their home-away-from-the-White House in locations that give them some amount of solitude (and thereby, security) the Obamas will still use their Chicago home, which presents extra security challenges. AttemptsAndrew Jackson As I hear it, attempting to assassinate Andrew Jackson was a truly bad idea. Jackson was apparently a habitual gun duelist, and had been shot in the chest so many times that he frequently coughed up blood and is said to have "rattled like a bag of marbles." A man named Charles Dickinson, a noted marksman who had killed 26 men in gun duels, made disparaging remarks about Jackson's wife; Jackson challenged him to a duel. Jackson sportingly allowed Dickinson to shoot first, presumably to give him a fair chance. Although Dickinson hit Jackson near the heart, Jackson was unamused and killed Dickinson with his reply. Richard Lawrence, Jackson's would-be assassin, produced two pistols which both misfired (probably, they were afraid of Jackson) and Jackson proceeded to beat the man to a pulp with his namesake cane ("Old Hickory") before being restrained. The beat-down was the only punishment Lawrence received, as he was deemed insane (he believed himself to be King Richard III) and permanently institutionalized. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

While watching the Inauguration, some of the commentators were talking like it was going to happen today... but whatever the case, it almost seems inevitable what with the symbolism with Lincoln, Kennedy, and MLK and being a visionary, etc... There will quite likely be an attempt. Bush was despised, but largely by the left, the liberals, who don't tend to shoot people because they don't approve of guns. I would think Hillary Clinton would have been in more danger as she was loathed by the right. Obama hasn't really done anything yet to get the right "up in arms" over him, except of course, that he's Black, so you can expect the extreme right to want him dead from the get-go. The rest of the right, ie, the religious right, will have to be led into a frenzy by the radio talk show idiots, and those nutbars on Fox TV before they go after him. But when they are "inspired" well, they are the ones who are so well-armed, and no one is more likely to kill than a guy who thinks God is on his side.
