Elected representatives of the people will always be required to voice the opinions of citizens. I'm simply stating that we as Canadians need to reign in our elected representatives and especially party elite at the top who make these very large decisions that will effect Canadians for many years both fiscally as well as how we are perceived in the world. I still maintain there could be a criteria set up that automatically decides if a referendum needs to be held or a polling situation to persuade our elected representative for our riding. Make the MP responsible to the riding and not the party boss. This creates MP accountability to his constituents through out a mandate, instead of only at election time. This improves our democracy by allowing Canadians to have a voice for at least the large issues. Smaller issues could be dealt with as they are now. I remember one year on that show, some redheaded guy even forgot the lyrics to King Of the Road and he still advanced past some of the others who seemed better than him. Voting for that show (which I must say I enjoy watching) can have idiots voting as often as they wish... this is why you get the duke of the road screwing up the king of the road and making it through... I know I watched that one also. The on line voting I speak of would be secure and only one vote per person. Plain and simple and truly democratic. Aside from that, hackers are not real big on politics. They tend to be a little introverted and seek little challenges for themselves, but not for publicity, that would be their downfall. Benny the democratic process has numerous checks and balances designed for the purpose of elections, and there is therefore reasonable cause to conclude that similiar process would be put into place for any method on online voting. How will you stop mulitple votes? What about those who don't have computers? My vision of this is Lictor types--right-wingers with their tongues hanging out one side their mouths hitting the button multiple times LOL, politicians talk they don't sing. Wouldn't there be an ID number unique to each voter? It shouldn't be too difficult to make a system where people can't vote more than once. If it can be done in person, then why not via computer? I would like this system. I know employers are supposed to ensure you have a 4 hour block to vote, but that's not always done. I know they're legally required and can face a fine, but still. It would be far more convenient for me to log in and cast my vote than to walk over to my polling station.... but as I said, i'm lazy.
