Palin says she's been exploited by Couric and Fey

Recommended Posts

I watched it all all plus saw some of the interviews afterwards.

I was wondering. Because the sense I got from watching the interview is completely different from the sense I got from reading the article about it.

Gossip about family didn't start with her.

So it's not a valid complaint?

And I thought the comment was directed at Palin.

Do you think she's unreasonable in feeling that ridiculing her daughter's engagement was over the line? Don't you think another parent might feel the same way in that situation?

The reason it is in quotes is because that is what she wrote to Anchorage Daily News.

Cite? I've searched a bit, and all I've found thus far is the same quote from the interview...

I’ve been interested also to see how Caroline Kennedy will be handled and if she will be handled with kid gloves or if she will be under such a microscope also.

Which is quite different to the spin seen in some of the reportage of the interview...

Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) believes Caroline Kennedy is getting softer press treatment in her pursuit of the New York Senate seat than Palin did as the GOP vice presidential nominee because of Kennedy’s social class.

She has been quoted in a few other sources on the same subject.

So it's not a valid complaint?

Valid in general but not if she thinks she was singled out.

I think what was a little unseemly is to make sure that her daughter's fiance was present beside her daughter when they met McCain as a family. If she didn't want the media to comment on that, she would not have invited the cameras. She was trying to make a point and that it is always fodder for the comedians.

She always says that she is a Mama Bear. Seems to me that the comedians latched on to her own argument.

It was the gentlest of comments in the end. We saw so many more from Leno and Letterman in the same vein.

That was the cite I gave above.

That was the Associated Press article.

You're the first I have heard mention you don't think is accurate.

Your the first I have heard mention you don't think is accurate.

I think it originated at Politico.com, but nonetheless there's an obvious difference between the tone of the headline and what she actually says. Saying she'll be interested to see whether Kennedy will be put under the same microscope she was is obviously not the same as claiming Kennedy has gotten an easy ride. So why was that headline chosen? I suspect for the same reason that the comment about Couric and Fey has been played up. Controversy sells.

Is what Palin said about Kennedy and classism actually out of line?

I think Palin was somewhat correct in feeling that class was a factor in the way she was portrayed in the media.

I think Palin was also somewhat correct in anticipating that class would play a factor in the coverage Kennedy has received. She was completely wrong in predicting that Kennedy would benefit from it, however.

I'd suggest that the coverage Kennedy has received has gotten far tougher in the past week or so. I'm not suggesting that Palin's comments have influenced the media to be tougher on Kennedy. However, I do suggest that for somebody looking at the situation 2 weeks ago, Kennedy's treatment in the media looked probably looked a lot different than it looks now in hindsight.

Well, I for one have had enough. What I have learned in the last several months, is that candidates families are in fact, not off limits. And so, I have begun a great joke/story related to Obama's daughters 10 years in the future. It's quite funny, and I can't give it all away yet, but let's just say, they're starring in their very own porn film titled "Whitehouse Wh---s." When I've concluded my work, I'll make sure to submit it for the forum to read and enjoy, and of course, submit constructive criticism, on how I can touch it up to make it even better.

Whitehouse Wh---s: Starring Sasha Hope and Malia Change.

Coming Soon!

That's disgusting.

Liberal Hollywood was responsible in part of the defeat of McCain - the lampooning of Palin by Fey probably cost them the election - Palin is acutally a fine and pragmatic woman - who as a VP would have done wonderfully because of her female charm when dealing with tough types in regards to foreign policy - It's a shame they slandered her.

rotflmao. Gosh Darn it anyway!

Any man who thinks Palin is a "good politician" is thinking wrong-headedly. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

My Dad loves her, thinks she's the greatest thing since Laura Croft. He's 80 y.o. so he's excused. He plays Tomb Raider and just loves to watch Laura's braid bounce up and down. Bounce Bounce Bounce, innit fun to watch "tough" women in action?

I have no who picked the headline. As I have learned long ago, the writer doesn't get to choose the headline, the editor does.

It remind me of the story about the psychic dwarf who on the run after stealing his clients' money.

The headline was Small Medium at Large.

Is what Palin said about Kennedy and classism actually out of line?

That the media defers to the wealthy or the famous?

She might have a point. Many people have been saying that Jobs from Apples was treated differently because of his position and wealth. CNBC furiously refuted there was an issue with his Jobs' health and now... wehear Jobs has left because of his health.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/179825

On Wednesday night I went on CNBC and was obnoxious enough to point out, on the air, that CNBC itself had been put into the latter camp by a Silicon Valley bureau chief who had appointed himself the official defender of Steve Jobs and Apple. Worse yet, in December, when one blog in the Valley reported that Jobs had canceled his annual Macworld keynote because "Steve's health is rapidly declining," this reporter went out of his way to attack that outlet and refute its report, both on air and in print. The CNBC guy claimed he had sources deep inside Apple who were telling him that Jobs was healthy. "Apple's Jobs is (Still) Fine," was his headline on the CNBC Web site.

My personal opinion on reporters is that they should report the story. It is eventually the opinion makers who will assess the hype.

I think Palin was somewhat correct in feeling that class was a factor in the way she was portrayed in the media.

I think her name created initial buzz.

However, I think a similar things would happen if Trudeau ran for leader in Canada. He would be hammered for it if he didn't appear to have the cred to do the job.

I think Palin was also somewhat correct in anticipating that class would play a factor in the coverage Kennedy has received. She was completely wrong in predicting that Kennedy would benefit from it, however.

I think you've got that right.

Let's not forget Palin has a certain attitude about establishment. She tried to wear the maverick hat and emphasized her humble beginnings.

Some of the media flack came as soon as Kennedy announced. That is far earlier than Palin's comments. Just a careful glance of New York newspapers were showing she was not exactly being coronated.

Palin was abuse by the whores in Hollywood - the fact that she is not typical of what lefties find acceptable was no reason to cruxify her publically under the ruse of humor and entertainment...imagine they hate her because she did not insist on the abortion of her own grand child - nor does she change husbands like shoes.

Didn't you find her unacceptable because she was not at home with the kids?
