Lets hope. Torontonians are smart. They can see that the prudent policies of the Harper government has navigated Canada through the recession and we've passed through far less burduned than our trading partners.....they should be rearded with a majority. .. that and Dr Bennett's time to retire was when her hubris caused her to think she could be the PM. ToadBrother Posted September 30, 2009 Report Share Posted September 30, 2009 Per usual you ignore the facts that contradict your view that the NDP can do no wrong and all actions they undertake regardless of how much of a flip flop, or hypocritical they are, are beyond repute. The LPC has stayed in and around the 30% mark on average. If we average the NDP it's lower then there election results. Low mark being 12% the high around 18%, that puts them around their traditional 15% mark. I guess this goes to show that the NDP should focus on showing the electorate that they do stand by their principles rather than bad mouthing the LPC all the time. The NDP are supposed to be an opposition party, yet they've apparently lost their appetite to oppose and their support will only suffer over the long term as a result. If the rank and file think going into an election broke is a good idea, then the NDP have bigger problems than Layton backing the Tories right now. The NDP leadership have always had a problem managing expectations, and Layton is proving no exception. What he's doing, from the point of view Parliamentary strategy, is maneuvering the NDP into the most influential position it's had since the early 1960s. Say what you will about the guy, but he's simultaneously avoiding an election he knows can only do his party harm, and managing to have some influence on legislation that directly deals with workers, supposedly the NDP's stock and trade. That's two pretty big pluses by any standard. But if there was ever a party that feared success and punished winners, it's the Federal NDP. Prudent? I wouldn't exactly call the Tory's economic policy over the last five years an example of prudence. Baird may actually be one of the most incompetent Finance Ministers in recent memory. The vote came on a day when a new poll showed little change in voters' preferences. The Angus Reid/Toronto Star poll showed the Conservatives at 37 per cent, Liberals at 27 per cent, NDP at 17 per cent, Bloc Quebecois at 11 per cent and Greens at 6 per cent. They keep this up and the Conservatives will win every ridding. I think because the NDP voters wont be scared away from the party the Liberals might want to vote strategically for the NDP this time. Might have almost wondering why the Liberal Finance minister in Ontario was defending the Federal Conservatives and Jim last week eh? I hate to defend Harper but what we have to show for it according the IMF would be us recovering faster then everyone else in the G7. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-b...article1307637/ Look I don't like Harper as much as the next guy but he is doing an ok job enough to maybe get him a lead in the poll if all you care about is the Canadian economy. I agree he isn't helping the worst off, he doesn't understand what Canada needs in terms of social policy but Iggy is offering the same thing so why should anyone side with the Liberals? He seemed real, he seemed like he had ideas, Iggy just makes angry whenever he talks. He hates the lefts he thinks he can just throw out buzzwords and we will fall in line. It truly shows. The Libs need a long time out to purge the party clean. They need to realize that sometimes gov'ts do change and Canada is not BC after all. They would have been better off cleaning shop back in 05 and just biding their time while rebuilding. Too much time and resources have been spent trying to win back parliament so soon. "Nationally, Jack Layton’s position is the most popular, supported by almost 3-in-4 Canadians. Nationally, 72% supported Mr. Layton’s position that the NDP will support the government for as long as it takes for EI legislation to become law and the new money distributed, including 18% who strongly supported this position. This position has broad appeal nationwide with no less than 66% in any region indicating they support his position on the matter. Among New Democrats, 81% are supportive of this position, while 13% are opposed. The position of the NDP leader is also supported by 70% of Liberals and 78% of Conservatives." So 72% of Canadians like what Jack did and even more NDPers like it. I was at the convention 81% of NDPers don't agree on anything so again the NDP make the right move to help Canadians. This is what I've been saying since the 2006 Liberal Leadership Convention. Ignatieff will be easier to beat than Dion, Rae even more so.
