DOP,

I think that's fair.

So what to be done ? Take the best of them and eventually the returning expatriates will make the locals look bad ?

We can see that banning Muslims from entering Canada isn't it.

Basically try not to be like them seems like the approach.

What's wrong is that people don't have children so the society is in danger of stagnation.

If you don't believe in growth then go join the green party and help them figure out how a non-growing economy will work.

Well it seems to me that the current economic model has hit the toilet with a loud sploosh. Tell me again how this model of spending what one doesn't have is supposed to work, again?

People in our society are not having kids for two big reasons.

1) Birth Control and women's rights (they're not just baby machines in our culture).

2) Babies are very expensive if you have to pick up all the costs yourself. The middle class in particular is impacted here.

Islam isn't comaptible with women's rights. This reason alone should be enough to second guess all incoming Muslims. Say in 100 years...how will this all pan out? Women losing their rights? Don't tell me there isn't a chance.

Women will not simply be mainstreamed into the polluted stream. Women are changing the stream, making it clean and green and safe for all -- every gender, race, creed, sexual orientation, age, and ability.

It's called 'economic growth'. That is, people invest in enterprises for the promise of future returns.

You think this is bad ? It could be worse.

You seem smart - suggest an alternative economic model to free enterprise.

This will pan out as well as it did when we imported the filthy Irish, the filthy Italians and so on... after importing the filthy English to vanquish the filthy French... all of whom are ancestors of mine.

How will it work ? Probably as well as it has so far.

One where credit is a privilage...not a right. When was the last time you used credit outside of a mortgage? Today? Yesterday? For me...since the 90s. I pay for everything right over the counter. I still enjoy a very comfortable lifestyle. I think many others should try it...living within their means. Oddly, the banks think of me as a risk...lol.

Re: economic growth. It is getting pretty obvious to me that we live in a finate system. Why others insist we live in a world where resources know no end is beyond me.

And as I said - you're smart so conjure up something better. 5,000 years of the ideas of civilization versus your idea that we live in a 'finate [sic]' system. Guess who my money is on.

I don't claim to be smarter than humanity. However, if it isn't obvious to you that consumption and poor use of credit is the ice berg that suck the Titanic...oh well. If you're going to buy some Burger King with your credit card, grab me a Whopper w/ cheese. I'll pay you back in cash.

I pick myself up and get back in the race.

And the fact that counterfeit exists could mean that paper money itself is a sham. Yes, it's easy to find flaws in our system but you have to be smarter than humanity to come up with a better system. I don't know if you're up to the task or not. Einstein and others have surprised us in the past.

In fact, DOP, I'm going to start a new thread on this very topic !

I would support a values test for new immigrants, just to ensure that those who come here will be able to fully accept our traditions of individual liberty and democracy.

How will you ensure new immigrants won't just tell you what you want to hear, get them to swear on a bible or make them cross their hearts and hope to die or something?

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Mikey-kins, did you manage to get some fries with that? I'm hungrier than I thought! Hey...and while you're at it, I'll give you $10 to shovel my drive. That should pay down the ol' debt a bit.

I'm with Michael H on this as well. I think Jerry's just trying to find a way to rationalise actions such as this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w45VmMyoppM

or a funnier (yet scarier) video:

I think Muslims are the only visible ethnic-group (ethnic being key word there, I exclude sexual-orientation on purpose) against whom open discrimination seems to be acceptable these days.

So now we're in such an orwellian mindset that pointing out FACTS is discriminatory?sheesh.

Making Muslim woman uncover their heads by force of European law is tragic. You either have inclusiveness or you don't - Forced assumulation of religions to secualism is no better than forcing relgion on secularists. Both are wrong. It is either slavery and submission or freedom for all. You can not have it both ways.

Interesting comments

As I am presently working in the middle east I happened to be in a certain country a few days ago.

While I was talking to a man on the street neer the market place - his wife - being a good wife - got down on her knees behind him and placed her face on the ground so our eyes would not met.

So - which way will it be in a couple of generations?

Oh, the going rate for a pretty wife is fairly cheap - I turned down the offer - despite her attractive figure - did not see her face. My wife would not likely approve of a second wife
