I think it is foolish to say anything other then what everyone knows. The RH Stephen Harper will win this election by a landslide and be bordering on a majority if they do not get one.

So what is next for the parties including the CPC?

One can not say they will win an election in a landslide and border on a majority if they do not get one with out being accused of sucking and blowing at the same time....

It's like saying they will either win big or they won't....

RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS

If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

The first budget. It will be the Tories' best opportunity to add things the other parties hate but won't dare to vote down because it will be too soon after an election.

Big cuts to arts programs and grants, perhaps, to pay back the arts community for all its hard work this election? Times are tough, government needs to make some cutbacks, hard to argue against it. No way the nearly bankrupt Liberals are bringing the government down over that.

I say the election will turn out another minority government by any of the parties and that the official opposition will be very close. I think if Harper gets back in, the Conservatives should either replace Harper or pay for this election! We could see all 3 party leaders head for leadership vote later and C-pac will show again that nothing will get done except which party has the best smart-ass mouth with personal attacks and the winners are the Conservatives!!!!

Yeah, right. "Bordering on a majority" is a far cry from a landslide. Most estimate don't even go that far.

Wouldn't it be more interesting to ask, what's next for the people of this country? More of the same, i.e. nothing. Other than limited tax cuts and miniscule child benefit.

No serious action on environment, openness and transparency of the government, more prisons and tougher sentences, which will do nothing to actually reduce crimes on the street, letting go of gun control, partisan attack style politics in the Parliament. All the same things we came to know so well from the previous Parliament.

So, why are we having this election? Ask your CPC representative, if they're allowed to speak, of course. If not, we'll have to ask that same question Mr Harper himself.

If it's you or them, the truth is equidistant

Holy mixed metaphors batman!

land·slide /ˈlændˌslaɪd/

–noun

1. the downward falling or sliding of a mass of soil, detritus, or rock on or from a steep slope.

2. the mass itself.

3. an election in which a particular victorious candidate or party receives an overwhelming mass or majority of votes: the 1936 landslide for Roosevelt.

Now this is interesting.

More of the same is exactly why I support Mr. Harper. More stability in government, more common sense approach to childcare and social and special interest programs, more sustainable plans for the environment and the economy?

Hell yes!

I really hope that you're not suggesting that we be soft on crime. The Liberals have already done that and the hug a thug approach doesn't work so I'd rather have them locked up the out on the streets.

Additionally gun control has little to nothing to do with street crime as people who live and commit crimes in the ghettos do not register their guns or buy them legally. They buy guns from the USA. So tighter border controls are needed indeed.

Every politician is partisan so no points there either.

Why should the cpc replace him? Just to appease you? You would never vote CPC no matter who the leader was.

That may be but I'd rather run over cost on justice and have safer streets then trying to counsel hardened violent offenders with a hug a thug mentality which they must be just laughing at.

Should Chretien or the Liberal Party have to pay back election costs when he called 2 elections when he was in a majority? Did we need elections at that time? Of course not. Those were Liberals and entitled to their entitlements.

It's worked out really well in the U.S.

I'm tickled pink by how safe I feel in any given US ghetto, just KNOWING the thugs have been locked up!

Imagine how it'd be if half of the ones that are locked were out on the streets.

Well it is all we can do as we don't have the Death Penalty, too bad if you ask me :(

The difference being that the Liberals didn't promise not to call an early election. The Conservatives only passed a law for a fixed election date because in Stephen Harper's words "Fixed election dates prevent governments from calling snap elections for short-term political advantage. They level the playing field for all parties and the rules are clear for everybody." What this does is judge one party by the standards a second party has set for itself.

There is a loophole in the statute which is what was used.

If the Tories did anything illegal do you think that everyone would be so quiet about it?

They would be screaming bloody murder from the rooftops.

Give it a rest already.

Can we please try to stay on topic please?

Harper - 3 strikes and you are out - baaaaah-bye

Dion - nice try but shouldn't ever have been at the plate - baaaaah-bye

Layton - 3 strikes but playing with the lights out - baaaah-bye

Duceppe - should not be allowed at the plate - baaah-bye

May - deserves another shot though next time watch the message - your team deserves it

Bring us a real leader that we can follow - a fiscally conservative socially progressive leader that represents the majority view and has vision - for either major party - and lets get back to majority rule

I have no idea what that first part means but I understand the last part.

So your answer is to do nothing but wait for the next election, got it.

Thank you for your post.

First part - take-off of David Spade skit on SNL

Second part - Exactly, enough minorities

Lets hope a suitable leader (none of the above) comes forward

Con or Lib - I don't care - I just want a majority next time around with a socially progressive fiscally conservative leader at the helm

The Governor General might just ask the Opposition what they could do.

Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. If the Liberals force an election in January they will be committing political suicide. The same thing was said after 2006 and that didn't happen either.

It's too bad the left didn't have you two for consultants, the CPC would be better off. :)
