When sen McCain called for less imperialistic policy of Russia's Federation in Caucasus region, it was understandable. South East Europe was described as a failure in western diplomacy and John McCain could be a key player trying to find good balance in there for the West http://greatersurbiton.wordpress.com/2008/...th-east-europe/

But how about news of recent US diplomacy in Republics of Osetia (one belongs to Georgia, one to Russia), which linked McCain name to Russian Nationalists dreaming about Russian state without Caucasus?

http://vdesyatku.com/eng/index.php?option=...2&Itemid=25

It said that US officials offered a support for united and independent Osetia.

If the development is true then Russia could eventually loose the entire Caucasus region. The trick is that Osetia is the most loyal republic to Kremlin. If it goes away, then what to be said about rebellion regions? The surprise is a position of Russian nationalists (called Northern Brotherhood). They do not mind Russia to divorce Caucasus, moreafter, they insist on that! Quite uncharacteristic for Russian empire behavior :-) . However, the Northern Brotherhood positioned themselves as anti-imperialistic movement. That explains things.

And what about sen McCain? If he's really behind this political intrigue, isn't it a bad time, a mistake, kind of false start in his presidential campaign? Could it hurt him? Or on the contrary, what if it's a smart move on the great chessboard and we are yet to see an outcome of such development and enjoy the breathtaking game?

Where is "Great Osetia" and why should McCain care about it?

This upcoming US presidential election may be closer than current polls predict but I think it's fair to say that deciding votes will not be cast by people who care or even know about about "Great Osetia".

The person who gets to sit in the Oval Office is president of the United States, not president of the World. To get to sit there, the person needs the votes of US citizens, not foreigners.

This fact seems to have been lost on Barack Obama.

Sen McCain is definitely one of the key players in North Caucasian Region. It's his plan to give freedom to the people of Caucasus. No doubt they are now occupied there by Russian Federation.

Huh? The key player in the North Caucasus (and Southern Ossetia) is Obama.

Don't you read the NYT?

It would be interesting to know what Obama said to NY Times. As far as i know Obama is for cooperation with Kremlin's regime.

By the way the toughest politician today is McCain, not Obama. Obama is analog of Soviet Gorbachev. Once in charge, he will destory America.

Well, then why both Obama & McCain keep browsing the world and produce public appeals to the world, Europe, Middle East, etc? If they were to follow your logic, they should be sitting on American land while in the presidential race...

Gorbachev was a good guy. But we are talking now about America. And i think that for America Obama is more Evil than Good. But as for Russia and for Russian people, my guess is that Obama is the worst scenario. If we want to have white Russia then Northen Caucasus must be separated as soon as possible.

I guess, sen McCain and Northern Brotherhood don't play together. But they have something similar: sen McCain wants freedom for Caucasus region as well as Northern Brotherhood wants to get rid of Caucasus! http://vdesyatku.com/eng/index.php?option=...2&Itemid=25 What if they cooperate in order to reach their goal? Does it possible? How strong the Northern Brotherhood?
I don't know. But I could see that they seek for contacts. That was their second statement on a row. The first one was an offer to Republic of Georgia for information support in case of its conflict with rebellion Abkhazia would turn into hot phase (the second Abkhaz war) http://vdesyatku.com/eng/index.php?option=...0&Itemid=25

I can tell you one logical thing that without Russians themselves the separation of Caucasus is not possible. Whoever plays this game should pay attention to those groups inside Russia who are willing and able to play the same game with America. If you say it's Northen Brotherhood, then cooperate with them.

...............................................................................

The absolute majority of the White People in Russia wish completely to separate the Caucasian republics!

But the people in Russia is cut off from participation in political life of the country! Russia is operated by(with) a grouping of the gangsters from KGB and heap of the thieves who have grown rich that illegally extract and export a wood, petroleum, coal, gas, metals........

These Caucasian republics receive from the federal budget about 80 % of money!! Whereas the poor areas of Siberia and Far East receive only 20-30 %!!

It is the bloodsuckers on a body of Russia!

It would be good, that the president of USA would become the White Man and would engage in these Caucasian republics.

You wrote that Russians were cut off political process. But they could elect and be elected, right? At least they vote for Putin and Medvedev, don't they? If they want to get rid of Caucasus then why do they go to fight Georgia?!

Russia is not a democry. It is a corrupt oligarchy ruled by mafia dons.

Uh yah. Johny Mac as John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Clint Eastwood, etc., etc. You have been watching too many American hero movies. GI Joe, Rambo, etc., etc., been there done that. No he is not a key player and no he has no plan nor any power to give anyone freedom.

John McCain has made it clear he is a lacky of the oil empire. The oil empire not John McCain or Clint Eastwood, etc., is going to call the shots when all is said and done and any foreign policy the US will have whether its John Wayne McCain or The Rock Bam Bam Obama will be simply controlled by the addiction oil places the West in.

Time for you to watch foreign movies. May I suggest the latest Baliwood movie. Some of the guys look a little greasy with all that palm oil in their hair but the women are cute. Mind you they sing like they sucked in Helium and its wierd- in the middle of this murder scene they suddenly burst out dancing and singing.

I just can't get into them, Rue! To me, they all seem like those Beach Party movies from the early 60's, only in another language. Lots of singing and dancing, lots of flirting and bikini equivalents but nobody actually does anything actually adult.

I found Frankie Avalon boring then and I find Bollywood movies to be the same today, for the same reasons.

As for the helium, could you imagine "Alvin and the Chipmunks take Bollywood"?

This is one funny thread :D

Bush's successor to know Russian Nationalist movements ;)

Considering his age he should pay more attention to his bowel movements :P

What ?! Bowels are supposed to move? Damn - I have not had a movement in that area for years....now let me tell you a very true story...trust me it's true......by the way leave Russia alone - how would you like to send Newfoundland back to the Irish and Quebec to France and maybe Texas to Sweden - mind your own buisness guys.

Take a hike...I was born just to bomb Russia, not leave it alone. Always fun to jerk Russia's chain....besides, it takes some Canadian minds off of jerking the USA for at least ten seconds.

Don't worry about us Canucks. When Russia gets around to claiming the entire Arctic circle for its resources (all the way down to Winnipeg, no doubt!) Canadians will finally realize the sort of "friend" Russia truly is...

Just found an article with Chechnya's president Ramzan Kadyrov's reply to McCain's speculation about "Independent Chechnya":

http://www.vz.ru/politics/2008/8/27/201193.html

It is in Russian, so here's some of his words (my translation):

"In Chechnya, if Mr. McCain doesn't know, a referendum was conducted during which people have voted for a Constitution declaring Chechnya a part of Russia. We made our choice and don't try to impose new wars, conflicts, shocks on Chechnya".

"Why didn't America remember about Chechnya when they took East Timor from Indonezia, when they broke into pieces Yugoslavia and then Serbia?"

"I want to remind you again that we are ready to assist with all forces the realization of measures that the government of the country (Russia) is undertaking to realize stability in Caucasus."

Earlier he said that his army of 10,000 men is trained, ready and willing to go to Georgia and asked Russian government to allow them to meet the Georgian forces returning from Iraq. "We can use the arms and equipment NATO gave them", he said.

Isn't this gentleman a rather biased source? After all, he's just a puppet with a Baryshnikov or whatever pointed at his head.

Be that as it may, he's the only power in Chechnya right now... so if McCain whants to talk to someone there - it would have to be Ramzan.
