Furthermore, if they were to have "exclusively french" entertainers, people in the RoC would take pleasure in describing Québécois as racists, xenophobic. Québec-bashers always find a way to spiin things.

Good point! McCartney is there because he is a celebrity...that's it. What's the big deal?

There are all kinds of activities....there was even a large wood boat in the port this weekend that came all the way up from lake Champlain (Gasp!) Don't let this get around but they had english only signs at their kiosk and no one panicked. Although one woman dropped her ice cream nearby but I am not sure that it was related.

OK...nuf with the kidding. I just don't getwhat the issue is.

And today the Bluenose sailship arrived in Québec, where it will be in the port for the next while, open to visitors free of charge.

Quelle horreur!

Should it have been re-chritaned the "Nez bleu"?

It can be seen even from Lord Dufferin's Terrace. A British governor's terrace. Again, quelle horreur!

And this terrace is adjacent to a hotel in which a British prime minister, Churchill, once stayed. It shoud be demolished, or so would Québec-bashers think that "xenophobic, racist" Québécois should do!

Happy Birthday Quebec, my own ancestors came to Quebec back in the 1600's from France, Pierre, a soldier and from there the family grew and 13 or 14 generations later we are 8000+ strong, although my grfathers' family left Quebec at the end of the 1800's and my grfather himself, was one of the original workers at the Ford plant in Windsor.

Some interesting points so far, on both sides.

I feel the quoted statement should be addressed though. Quebecers are actually quite Zenophobic, this has been demonstrated time and time again. Personally I'm pretty sick of their whining and demands, their constant attitude of poor lil ole me. Cut em loose, they contribute nothing of value or worth to this country and merely continue to take a disproportionate amount.

My ex wife was Quebecois and we spent quite a bit of time in the province. It always amused me when we'd go to a buisness of some kind and the people working there would start with the rude and racist remarks. That was my wifes cue to go into action and let them know that everything they were saying was being understood, and returned with interest.

So, please do not attempt to alter the reality of the situation. Zenophobia and racism do exist and are quite common in Quebec.

Anyone who has ever had even the slightest dealings with Zeno are rightfully wary of him. Quebecers in this regard are indeed Zenophobic with good reason.

On the other hand, Montreal used to be the most cosmopolitain city in Canada and probably North America...In Canada at least that honour probably falls to Toronto because that is where immgrants choose to live. And again on the otherhand Quebec is no more xenophobic than Alberta...small tows and small minds...

It ensures that people will notice.

Who was insulted or injured, apart from you that is, and even at that your wounds wouldnt fill a band aid pad.

The insult I am referring to is directed at the French about rekindling past history when the French were defeated on the 'Plains of Abraham by the British'.

Bringing in a British superstar is 'shooting oneself in the foot', wouldn't you think?

Rumour has it the Queen will be on drums, with her special rendition of 'God save the Queen'. I believe this is untrue and totally false.

With or without Sir Paul the celebration will be a success. If there is one thing Quebecers know how to do - it's to throw a party.

Of the the continuous variety.

One after the other, for whatever reason.

We don't have to spin anything that Quebec's 'French Charter' hasn't already spun.

Ancient history. No one cares anymore.

If you meant "shooting oneself in the foot" is the same as almost guaranteeing a successful showing well.....yes !

More people would come if true.

McCartney was born in Liverpool England and is an English rock singer.

What irks me is Quebec bringing in high profile English speaking talent to sing on the 'Plains of Abraham' when their talent should be exclusively French.

And if the talent was exclusively French-speaking, you would complain that it is racism.

Hopefully it is not the federal government, as this is not a Canadian celebration.

It is a Canadian celebration.

Nice to see we have another forum addition who will deny reality and mindlessly parrot whatever politically correct pap he is fed. Because you find it distastefull does not in any way alter the truth. All you can offer is rather feeble and unimaginative quips of no substance whatsoever.

When you are ready to offer something of substance get back to me. Until then don't waste my time with feeble rebutals.

Come on Angus , that is patently false and you know it.

(the disproportionate part can be debated but not the first)

Okay, I'll give you that. Although I will say that it's all a matter of perspective and what one considers to be of value or worth. I'm just sick and tired of the whole "squeaky wheel" syndrome.

Besides, they unleashed Celine Dion upon the world and for that there should be severe repercussions.

No, not at all, why do you ask?

Will you now recite a mantra of racism because I can't stand the insipid garbage that she spews? Am I racist because I have no desire to listen to characterless muzak marketed as pop for the feeble of mind?

You must be a fan, go figure.

Ancient history. No one cares anymore.

Everything Quebec does is related to ancient history including their obsolete language.

If you meant "shooting oneself in the foot" is the same as almost guaranteeing a successful showing well.....yes !

Selling your soul to the Anglais is good in Quebec?

When real estate prices increased in Gatineau, Que., they shot themselves in the foot again with the French selling their homes to the terrible Anglais, transforming Gatineau into an English speaking bedroom community of Ottawa.

Marketing isnt a strong suit of yours is it?

If you are talking about them, NO.

I could show you more .

Rephrase that to, 'you could show them more'.

Cultural sellouts need it especially when they preach the opposite.

Here`s more substance that your drivel deserves. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who comes renting like `this group is a bunch of this`, `French-Canadians contribute nothing of value, cut them loose`, or `Maudis anglais`is a xenophobe, period. So feel free to parrot whatever bigoted rant soothes you. And to find the truth about you distateful. I won`t waste my time reading you.

Excellent, that way I wont have to waste time reading your "I want to pat the world on the ass and tell it how nice it is garbage". What I find the most amusing is the fact that you and your sheep like breatheren all bleat the same mindless brainwashed pollitically correct spew. Very predictable in fact.

I guess it's easier to recite doctrine than to actually exercise your mind and think for yourself. Or, maybe you just don't have anything to exercise, most likely actually.

Have a nice day singing Kumbayah now.

Do you think I am PC? Mind you, I find Canadien to be a self righteous prat, but that doesn't mean I think he is off base in this thread.....but do you think I'm PC?

What's the big deal, the French sent official representation including naval vessels to the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar ceremonies.

Actually no, at least not rabidly so, like some around here.

I think you are more a creature of consciene who acts and speaks from a basis of sincere belief tempered with common sense and a fair bit of knowledge. Also a pretty good sense of humour.

Does that answer your question?

"Sir" Paul nothing! This doink of a man married a one legged hooker....and is not the bright...if he wants to do some honouring of British domination over the french by singing a silly pop tune the his former producer had actually created - yes - the noble man George Martin..who cleverly took the old English Music hall tunes of the 20s and 30s and made a fortune by recyling them...thought the Beatles with a slight twist. McCartney still does not read music and depends on highly trained back up musicians that he can BUY...I am not amuzed.
