Sure....you posted:

I think you mean nearly seven years free of any terrorist attacks on the United States. But, so what? There were no terrorist attacks on the US during the term of Martin Van Buren and he isn't remembered for that fact.

This caught my attention as being rather sloppy for both the former and latter assertions and President Van Buren. What we are jousting about concerns the definition of "terrorist" I suppose, but it is easy to retrofit the definition of terrorism before modern usage. Hell, many people consider the modern American military to be a terrorist organization.

That's what I thought you'd highlight. Well, I'm glad that you're at least beginning to admit that not all aggression is terrorism. I'll agree that one must be careful retroactively applying labels, but as we're having a conversation in the present day, and terrorism, in this context, has a pretty clear definition, I think it's relatively safe to look back and say which attacks were terrorist in nature, and which weren't. I may well have been wrong in my initial statement about Van Buren - believing terrorism to have been a relatively rare tactic prior to the early 20th century - but the Caroline Affair is not an example of 1800s terrorism. Nor does the US military engage in terrorist tactics, as far as I know, and despite what some people would say.

Agreed, but for me the modern definition is so often co-opted (e.g. eco-terrorism) that it is fair to make the case for historic examples of terrorism, particulary when motivated by a political agenda coupled with the murder of non-combatants. Other's afford any victim the right to assert "terrorism" based on their experience / perspective, regardless of intended actions / motives.

Again, I am not altogether unreasonable. I agree that the Caroline Affair is a weak example, having possible merit as terrorism only because of the loss of life and longstanding political struggle between the Americans, Loyalists, and British. That many Americans did support another war with Britain over the issue (with strong Lower Canada objectives) is another factor; the Second Seminole War is a better fit in this regard.

As you know, it has been said that one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

Economics trumps Virtue.

Does anybody have some sort of map that shows the toilets we can all do our business in so as to show what we think of George Bush? I think there should be a web site with waiting times and a booking calendar. I'd love a chance to crap on this moron.

But what about a Dick Cheney crapper? Surely we should have a chance to crap on Bush's boss too?

A Wolfowitz crapper too. I'd pay to deposit my steamers on Paul Wolfowitz, the architect of the Middle East disaster and sent packing from the World Bank for diddling his assistant.

Trio Crap.

Open wide, you mothers.

Ah yes, the rabid left. Reminds of a line from the movie Madagascar. The monkeys are upset at the zoo, and one monkey says to the others, "If you have poo, throw it now!".

Feel better?
