I mentioned in the post you responded to that the provinces had to bring their rates down.

Good work Geoff. Pointed out the flaws in the logic.

However, I think the Feds should have cut their rate right now rather wait to 2012. That is how important I think the issue is with the dollar rising as fast it has been rising.

It really is impossible to institute tax cuts immediately.

As for the "however", it appears to be a new point. Perhaps you could outline corresponding spending cuts in 2008 to 2011 you would like to see go with that.

Ummm...are all autoworkers in Canada unionized? Why was it OK for Chrysler to move American autoworker jobs to Canada?

Easily most automotive manufacturing employees are not unionized.....the 3 american firms are but progressive companies like Toyota and the bulk of the suppliers are without soul killing unions...

....a sure sign that the shine is off of Magna is that the unions will have a shot at forming a protection racket at the Magana plants....

IF the Toyota is NOT unionized, then the reason is because they care about their employees and they pay well, and look after them. The Big 3, didn't and that's why a union was needed to protect the employyes from the companies taking advantage of them.

An element of truth to that. Many companies have unions because they deserved them.

What specificly constitutes a company "taking advantage of them"?

If there was a labour shortage and employees put the screws to the company to drive up wages, would that constitute them taking advantage of the company?

Why is no one talking about that we as Canadians should be down in the US of A right now buying all the profitable companies and bringing the benefits of that ownership back to Canada?

If our dollar shrank by 23 % you can bet we would have had many ,many bargain hunters here wrecking havoc , why isn't this happening in a way that we would hear about it?

Maybe the truth is the stocks have risen perporsionally already to cover their ass's and its only the average americans who will pay for this latest government mismanagement.

Maybe buy ourselves a NFL team while its cheaper, hahhaha

Ha Ha Ha what bubble do you live in? Honda sure looks after their employees, when they get sick they fire them with no notice of even government mandated pay outs. Ya they look after you all right.

If the big three or is that four would produce products that weren't pure crap they wouldn't need to shut down their plants. We have to stop proping up the big three, their eventual death is a given unless they start producing vehicles that are equal to or better than foreign cars/trucks. I wouldn't accept a Ford Truck if it were free, eventually the maintance would kill me on that junk.

Times are changing, if they can't compete that's bad business and the government needs to stop proping up failing industries. It only delays the inevadable.

Your right, times are changing. Have you seen Ford's new Quality scores in Consumer Reports and JD Power. They are quickly getting better while Toyota is quickly getting worse. Ford, or any of the big 3 for that matter build a much better truck than Toyota could ever hope to.

Sure. Keep telling yourself that.

The Tundra outsells the GMC Sierra. I guess those people in the 17% of the market the Tundra has for half-tons are just wrong.

All the consumers are buying Japanese vehicles because of unfair trade practices, or lack of patriotism, or because Stephen Harper is Prime Minister, or because martians told them to.

Or maybe, just maybe, it is because Japanese vehicles are superior value to North American vehicles.

No, its because they were superior, but there is still a perception that continues. The Tundra has been plagued with major problems since launch. Cam shaft failures, the bed bouncing uncontrollably, transmission problems, the tailgate collapsing under even a small load. It is not in any way reliable. When it was tested on the washboard track at Ford's proving ground, it was the only truck whose bed actually made contact with the cab. It has a lower safety rating than the F150, has a much weaker frame, and has a hauling capacity of 1000 lbs less. The only area that it is better than the f150 is in horsepower.

You take out a mortgage on a home you are in debt. You then have to pay off that debt and if you can't you lose everything.

If you can't pay off the mortgage, you sell the house. Since the mortgage is for less than the value of the house, you hardly "lose everything." Since the value of homes goes up, most likely you've gained.

How many people in the US just walked away from their homes? How many are being auction off! If they are a flood of homes being sold you know chances are they aren't going to sell and people will have to declare bankruptcy and walk away. I remember back in the '70's canadian banks ended up owning alot of houses because the owners couldn't pay the mortgage.
