  1. You're missing the entire point. This political step only serves to villify the religious institutions that are opposed to same-sex marriage. The rhetoric by the supporters paints these religions and these people who believe in family values as human rights violators. SSM is NOT a human right, but a legal right. There are very few people that don't believe homoesexuals should have equality before the law. What is a human right violation is the government putting through a law that will force changes on religions by basically condemning them for their actions. We do still have a human right that allows freedom of religion and granted people aren't being arrested for their beliefs (until churches start denying same-sex marriages/receptions), but the government is negatively painting almost every world religion. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Heterosexual marriage isn't a "human right" either, it's a legal right. Human rights are things such as not being discriminated on based on race, gender, age, etc. And as far as religions being attacked because of their views I agree with you wholeheartedly that is %100 wrong, and i also agree they shouldn't be forced to perform same sex marriages or rent out their halls/churches for same sex marriages, because that undermines their religious freedom, as these places are religious in nature and therefore should be protected. And any attempts to curtail such rights are wrong, and i'll be right beside you in opposing them. I'm not "anti-religion" I actually belong to a religion, what I'm against is religions trying to influence laws. Plain and simple, end of discussion. Seperation of church and state is vital because there is more than 1 religion in Canada.
  2. from here? Cybercoma, if you're going to respond to a post, at least try to read it first. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Because by implying people with religious beliefs are INTERFERING with the government and should be silenced would be the same thing as putting the nail in the coffin of religion. Religion is an integral part of some people's lives and protected as a HUMAN RIGHT, asking people to disregard their basic human rights for the sake of politics is pure nonsense. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, and I have no problem with people living THEIR LIVES as they see fit, so long as it doesn't interfear with other's rights. I can't remember who it was but another poster said it well in another thread, that Christians seem to think its their duty to police the world and to make all believe as they do, they can't seem to accept the fact that other people believe something they don't. That's why I chose a religion that respects the beliefs of others. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok.... If you have no problem how others live their life, how about if the Hell's Angels sue a church for not letting them host their "event" whatever it may be? Do you think the church has the right to refuse? How about the neo-nazis renting a Knights of Columbus hall for their "events"? Most will agree, if the church refuses to have Hell's Angels in their church it is their right. If gays want the church, many of you will say it is oppression!!! Where is the line drawn? How long do you think it will be before they require schools to teach homosexuality in their sex ed courses? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have no problems with those caveats, because they're not "oppression" oppression is stopping someone from doing something, those actions would only change the venue, not the outcome.
  3. sycophant. you're nothing more than a red rightwinger. Coming from a man whose IQ seems to be smaller than his shoe size that's a compliment.
  4. I'd be down for everything except Kyoto, not because I'm for or against it just because I haven't had a chance to study it as I would like. I think I'll hit up wikipedia right now and learn about it.
  5. Give it a rest Seinfeld, I don't mind you expressing your views but stop posting multiple threads on the same topic.
  6. Just for the record, I do oppose government or anyone else trying to tell churches they have to perform same sex marriages, because that would infringe on the church's rights. See? I can defend both sides!

  8. Well fucko, considering they don't steal NOBODY. However it would be nice to live in a country where some people's social policies weren't taken from the 18th century. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OOHHHHHH!!! I SEE NOW!! How SILLY of me. So STEALING from your taxpayers, bribing federal officials, BUYING votes, flipflopping on policy and electioneering to cling to power are PROGRESSIVE policies. My sinscerest of apologies, oh lord Brison. And I suppose the values that the conservatives hold: integrity, honesty, sticking to your guns and trying to win power based honestly are OUTDATED ideas. What a joke. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am SO happy this legislation was passed so that the scum of the Earth like you and you're ilk will have to start getting used to the idea you can't wrap yourself in the bible when you want to advocate HATE anymore.
  9. WE'RE FROM EARTH!!!! THE PLANET WHERE SOME PEOPLE DON'T FEEL STONING GAYS IS APPROPRIATE OR THAT EVERYONE IS EQUAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry, I forgot you were absent the day they taught "Love Thy Neighbor" in Sunday School. Now seriously move to Alabama where you'll be more comfortable!

  11. Well fucko, considering they don't steal NOBODY. However it would be nice to live in a country where some people's social policies weren't taken from the 18th century.

  13. Hey, if you want to leave I'll pass the hat around see if we can't get you a one way ticket to, oh say Alabama? Or perhaps Texas? that should be just perfect. Oh BTW, would you like some cheese with that wine?
  14. "Je déclare le motion adopté." Tuesday, June 28th, 2005. Will go down as a Great Day in Canadian History. Today we take one more step out of the dark ages and get one step closer to enlightenment. Ottawa - 9:07 PM Eastern Daylight Time - Bill C-38, The Civil Marriage Act passes 3rd reading of the House of Commons 158-133. It begins its final senatorial journey to ensure equal rights for gays and lesbians against the objections of the narrow minded, and surviving one final desperate amendment from those who oppose equality. It places another well needed nail in the coffin of interference in the affairs of the State by the Church. The only better day in this saga will be when it receives royal assent. *pops cork on champagne* However I know the war is not over, when a group of people lets hate consume them as much as the Conservatives and their supporters have I knoe they won't let a little thing like a binding vote in the highest legislature in the land stop them. But we will be there, fighting them every step of the way.
  15. I coulda told ya that, and I didn't even need ip addresses.
  16. It's only going to get better for the Liberals, once the Gomery report comes out and confirms what we've been saying all along (i.e. it was a cmall element of the party) we'll drop the writ, get a majority back, and the conservatives will be left wondering what happened.
  17. I agree with you 100%, I'm pro-choice as well, but anti-abortion (not in the "it should be banned" way, just in the "alternatives should be readily available and supported" way) Yeah, it should be called marriage because that's what it is. Persecuting gays, whether it be curtailing actual rights or in name only is still persecution, it perpetuates discrimination. If we deny gays the right to call their unions marriage the discrimination will be continued and given an oppurtunity to grow rather than being eliminated. All people are of equal importance, and should have equality, true EQUALITY, not some half-assed Conservative placating tactic. This statement I have no problem with as well, in fact I made a suggestion on my blog you may find interesting. http://liberal4life.blogspot.com/2005/06/t...are-ruling.html The only one of those issues I can remember saying anyone was a fascist or a bigot on was the same sex issue, if I said it on any other issue I apologize and withdraw the statements. However to attempt to curtail the equality of any group of people has elements of fascism, and bigotry. Like it or not it's the truth. It was my intention, using this language, to help the people on the other side to see what they were becoming, not to offend. I admit my language could have been more eloquent, but as you know this issue stirs deep feelings on both sides. It infuriates me to no end that we live in a society in this day and age where we claim to all be equal but we still have a group of people who has to fight this religion enduced hatred. That is why the seperation of Church and State is so very important, so that those who don't subscribe to the beliefs of a majority aren't forced to live their lives in shame and persecution.
  18. Ya, that's why %70.4 of Canadians voted for a party that supported SSM in the last election.
  19. I could never take your place in that regard. And next election we WILL have a Liberal majority, Oh sure the polls are close now, but once that writ gets dropped the Cons support will plummet, they'll have one of their MPs shooting their mouth off about using the notwithstanding clause, or accuse Paul Martin of supporting child porn and their support will plummet. The Conservatives, like their far right supporters, are too stupid to win an election.
  20. The U.S. isn't a democracy it's a republic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic
  21. As I said in another thread it's not our right to enter the U.S. it's a privilege they extend to us, just as we extend them the privilege of entering Canada, they can make us do whatever they want to get into their country, and we can make them do whatever we want.
  22. the word "Lifestyle" intimates they made a choice to be this way, they didn't it happened at birth.
  23. I think RightWinger is going for a third term......
  24. Go right ahead, bring the government down, then we'll get a majority back and him and his fascist cronies can head on back to the Harpherbunker to plot another coup.
  25. IMHO: Anything less than full marriage = religious persecution. Which has no place in law.
