  1. Sparhawk is right. Reveal the major donors (not like he is required to at all or anything, but he did so anyways), but the $25 people, such as myself, probably aren't on the list, nor need they be. The big donors are what matter, and by the way, you won't find Conrad Black on it either.
  2. Nah, just the fact of a sepertist party being Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition.
  3. I've heard all I need to hear from Harris. Fringe party's have no relavence in this election. TV execs will air what people actually want to hear, no rumblings from a party that will not elect a candidate in this election. I find that the NDP and Bloc already waste too much time in debate, adding Harris who just cries that he's been wronged by the system he used to be part of really has no appeal to me, or to many Canadians. Now about the actual post before it was interupted completely off-topic by this hired mouthpiece. I agree there is some real concerns about this. In a recent labour disruption, Telus blocked access to a Union website for its users. Pretty creepy hey. However, what would you propose as a solution to this? They own the communications systems... they pretty much can do whatever they want. I think it comes down to free market dollar votes, those that get pissed off at the censorship of one carrier will simply move their money elsewhere. Other ideas anyone?
  4. First, what a wonderful post (the starter), but on this account you are totally wrong..... You give Harper way too much credit. He does not have a "day care" plan... he's offering a child tax credit. Further, he's planning to dismember what the Liberals have started with respect to implementation of a real day-care plan, so realistically, Harper's plan is and anti-daycare plan. There is no day-care system currently, so its tough to label someone as anti-daycare. As well, its not Federal jurisdiction so I have yet to figure out why any of the Premiers won't stand up and say no. I guess when Martin promises to correct the fiscal imbalance even minutely, they'll jump at that worm. The last thing we need is more in Ottawa. Where's Ralph when you need him?
  5. The Geoff Prediction CPC 159 BQ 60 LPC 59 NDP 30 I just like stirring up a little consitutional crisis .
  6. I don't think the Greens should be in the debate. They've haven't proven themselves as an electable party. I'd like to take it further. The English-language debate should be between parties that will form the government, the Liberals and the Conservatives Not even the NDP, as they will not function as either government or opposition. I want to see Martin and Harper duke it out, because then people could compare their policies 1 to 1 without Layton stammering in the background about sending more MPs to the hill and Duceppe talking about Quebec for two hours. Or maybe have the current format, and then a second debate between the two major parties. Either way, the Greens are not currently an important player, however much that crowd attempts to make them out to be. I don't even regard the NDP as an important player, though maybe with the current situation they could prove to be. ---- I like the Bloc opposition idea. It's actually concievable. With recent polls the Liberals could easily fall below the Bloc's tally with just a few more misteps. Imagine if the RCMP charges Goodale before the election date.
  7. These so called human rights tribunals clearly do impact the fundamental freedoms of the majority. I really don't see how a government should ever be able to force me to act a certain way. For example, in hiring people, if I have to two equally qualified candiates on paper, but I get along with one better. This person is of the same race as me. I can't hire me, as these tribunals would fine me and force me to employ the other person. My business is my business. And maybe parents should be able to stop their legal responsibilities from getting abortions... or at least maybe someone should tell the parents that their daughter has had 10 abortions in the last 2 years. These aren't fundamental rights, last time I checked parents should get to know what their kids are up to. Just a few examples of problems with this concept of a rights distributor. In an academic paper regarding the socio-economic conditions on native reservations. More personal attacks from you guys, please people, either talk about issues or don't talk at all. It degrades your position when you say things like that.
  8. Kimmy, you couldn't have said it better. The end result isn't going to be that different in our day to day lives Harper or Martin. No American flags will be raised on the Hill on the 24th, no war will be declared on North Korea or Iran or anything. I feel this election just really comes down to changing our system of government to prevent these abuses that we've seen in both our system, and to prevent any further degradation towards the system of our neighbours to the south. On another note. This River God guy registered yesterday, and has already posted 3 anti-Stephen Harper messages. He's pulled out the (and I find this extremly offensive and regard it as bigotry) people who believe in the bible must have all these horrible motives and objectives card (By the way River God, Martin does pretend to be a Catholic. So really he claims to believe in all this as well, so using it as an attack on Harper is pretty much irrelevant.) It's too bad that people such as you have to resort to personal attacks on people's convictions, I feel its the same type of people that called Jack Layton's wife a dog, and insulted Canadian parents telling them they'd just spend extra money on 'beer and popcorn.' I feel like these people are whole lot less Canadian than even the best spin doctor could make Harper out to be.
  9. So people that don't support an outdated concept are fascist? How about when the majority of the house stated they had no confidence in the government. Yet the Liberals kept going (the first vote). Whether it was a legal loophole or not shouldn't matter, the moral decision when you no longer have the support of the nation is to step down. If anything is fascist, it is this. And moving opposition days to construct a situation least favourable to your opponents. How ridiculous. Accusing the ONLY party that has come out with policy on accountability and democractic reform of being undemocratic. You guys must really be getting desperate now.
  10. Responsible gun owners are no threat to anyone. Hunters, outdoors people and the such don't murder with their weapons. Gangs and hardended criminals, who illegally have guns, are the real issue. Deal with gangs and violent criminals by keeping them locked up, no reason for such garbage to be in our communities. The guns that cause problems in Canada won't be affected by a ban, because they are owned illegally in the first place. We caused our own problems in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, ect through our ridiculous courts and immigration practices... the Americans aren't to blame at all.
  11. Actually, Martin admitted to knowing about the income trust decision. He apparently doesn't have a problem with that though. I did hear that the RCMP investigation was also looking at the PMO.
  12. Social Authoritarian 36.4% Economical Libertarian 29.5% Conservative, the real-deal apparently.
  13. Couldn't be better said. Canada needs a good kick in the ass if they honestly believe we can stand at the sidelines and watch peace 'occur' through critics of war. Our troops are incrediable induviduals that deserve the highest respect of all Canadians, and deserve both better equipment and the chance to do their job in the areas of the world that need them the most. In response to the rest of this thread... Sad when Martin stood in front of the world and condemned the war in Sudan and did not act. There was a time when Canada would have been first there, with millions dying (think Pearson). Yet instead we condemn the world for not acting. Yes, Harper believes in rebuilding the military. I've yet to see a problem with this, considering he'll actually do it. The Liberals have failed in trying to do this for 12 years, yet they continually say they support our military and want to improve it. Ridiculous. Military power is needed, Canada could have influence on the social welfare and peace of the world, yet we choose to instead make ourselves a laughingstock due to our talk and do nothing foreign policy. I am actually embarrased by this at times, I wish I could be proud internationally of being Canadian.
  14. It's a sad reality when RCMP funding will have to be increased to pay for investigations into the government.
  15. What's different between this promise and the last 12 years of education promises? This isn't even Federal jurisdiction anyways. I'm a university student. I'm also knowledgable enough to understand that most people don't go to university, more focus needs to be given to people in the trades and other forms of education. You'll see a real difference made there, not with us 'privledged' university class. Universities are full. Making them more affordable only compounds this problem. Anyone can save up enough to go. This is simply a ploy to gain some more student support, something I bet in-party polling has shown to be weak for the Liberals.
  16. Just like Paul Martin, the adament opponent of SSM in 1999. The Conservatives have brought in members that have less extremist views. With the Liberals, we are dealing the the same old. Nice try but you really got to do better than that. Oh, and please, can you give us some references for those quotes? Thanks.
  17. I really hate to resort to any mudslinging, though when someone's defense of the current situation (a government under investigation by the RCMP), is calling the opposition leader a social retard, it just becomes so tempting. Remember, Martin is the one that had the Americans fusing after lecturing them on the environment, when his party has been a complete and utter failure on the issue. As far as I know, being a hypocrit is about the least socially acceptable thing you could do. Carrolyn Parrish stepped on a doll of Geroge Bush. How many Liberals have been caught utter anti-American remarks. Or how about the Liberal members that have been heard by the media, telling people to "kiss my ass" (Scott Brison) or Scott Reid's comments like "Alberta can blow me." So please, because Harper didn't shake Duceppes hand, we shouldn't vote for him? Yet we should vote for the Party with a huge record of public disrespect? I'd be embarrased if we re-elected the Liberals. We are already a mockery on the international stage.
  18. I've yet to see how criminals or a criminal organization could love the country they frauded. What the Liberals say and what they mean are two very different concepts in this regard.
  19. Healthcare premiums (here in BC) are not an option. You cannot "opt out" of the healthcare system. I got laid off my job (which had coverage) and never realized I had to pay a monthly fee... it simply never occured to me LOL A year later I got a bill for $1400. I went into the BC Access Centre (where you pay the bill) and said, "I have not been to a doctor or used any healthcare service in that year" -- but I had to pay it anyway. The lady says to me "you have to insure your car don't you?". "Of course", I said, "but I can CHOOSE to park my car, I cannot choose to park my body!" I was really miffed that I HAD to pay the premiums regardless of whether I wanted healthcare or not. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well the whole problem with that is then you get people that don't pay for their insurance, then are the first to complain when they can't get care when they aren't insured, claiming they have some right to it? If you wanted to forfeit your right to health care, then for sure, it makes sense. But thats quite a risk wouldn't you think?
  20. It's about priorities. I don't know the specifics of your situation, but I can guarntee 95% of people that say they can't pay are the same folks that while getting interviewed by the CBC crying about it, have a pack of smokes on table. The other 5% are eligiable for their fees to be waived by the province. Any full-time job in Alberta is enough to make enough money to get by(even at just slightly above minimum wage, but hardly anyone makes near that, Superstore in my community is hiring at like $13/hr, thats $2080/month and you pay next to no taxes at that level. this is enough for a cheap apartment, food, clothing and insurance). Sometimes when you find yourself in such debt, a second job is necessary. The cost is $44/month for an induvidual, and you can get great additional coverage for about $25/month to cover a portion of drugs and ambulance (my secondary plan costs $120 a year and I get pretty much everything covered just fine). Thats 3% of income at a job making $2080/month (wow maybe that GST plan does make since...). If you are actually so poor that you can't afford anything but rent and kraft dinner, then apply for your premiums to be waived. I've heard of many people getting temporary relief from these premiums in order to get their finances in order. http://www.health.gov.ab.ca/ahcip/faq/assistance.html It's sad when people are in these situations, but it really does come down to priorities. Health insurance is definately my first. I'm a university student without loans paying my way myself and I get pay health care and all that every month. Really I just can't see how anyone can't, sorry if that sounds harsh but that is how reality sits with me. Those that choose not to insure themselves, can't come looking for help when they realise they should have to begin with. It's a gamble, and sometimes you lose.
  21. It's not just lies and misleading claims. The lazy leftwing media have totally missed the story of infiltration of CPC by religious conservatives as happened recently in Richmond. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually I'm sure they were elected democractically by their constituancy assocations. So either let the voters choose, or have some guy at the top parachute a candidate in that fits more correctly with the party line. What a ridiculous attack. I'm with Monty, find some proof of misreporting of facts by any Canadian right wing media outlet, and not just someone's opinion, actual reporting. If your saying the CBC is right wing for not reporting democracy in BC, I don't think that really qualifies.
  22. There is far bigger problems with our roads than speeding. Look at many European highways, higher speedlimits, less accidents, why? Because they invest in their roads. Of course anything over 100km/h is dangerous when the trans-canada is potholed and run down throughout the country. I heard on the radio a few days back about these truckers that drive through the US instead on coast to coast trips to save wear and tear on their vehicles. Stop blaming the speeders, those driving 20 under in the left lane are FAR FAR FAR more dangerous than someone who is probably a confident drivers paying attention to what they are doing. No doubt thought that I agree with you in some cases, there are idiot speeders out there, I see them everyday. But I've yet to see how a fine has ever fixed someone's common sense issues, it just hurts some of us that have places to go and drive a reasonable speed SAFELY, even if its 10-15k over the limit.
  23. I bet if we found all the missing money on all the reserves we'd find out pretty quick why however many don't have clean drinking water. It's all about priorities... Call it racist, call it whatever you want, it's true. I love how in those stories where the CBC's interviewing these people, and they've got a pack of smokes on the table and a few bottles of whiskey behind the sink. Lets be realistic here. If $10,000 fixes their water, and they've got say 200 people in their community, thats 5 packs of smokes each to fix their water problem... not to mention all this money apparently being embezelled or just outright stolen by their own people from their own coffers.
  24. They commited war crimes, thats why they can legally be tried under a military tribunal. It is against international military law to do a few things they do, first and most importantly, they are no part of an army, they are terrorists. They fight in civilian clothing, they target civilian populations and use civilian populations as human shields for their operations. These are all violations of military law, and thats why its legit to try them in a military trial. And they aren't soilders, they are terrorists, so they don't deserve rights as a traditional POW (a traditional POW hasn't really broken the law, these people have).
  25. Since when does anyone ask for a refund when they willingly pay for a product/service, and receive that service to their expectations. They PAID the tax, they were not robbed of the money in some fraud scheme. They paid, they got what they paid for. I fail to see how giving someone's descendants money solves any problem whatsoever. It's a cash grab by yet another minority group. First natives, and now Chinese. We owe you nothing, you've found a great place to live, that should be payment enough. I don't like how my family, being small business owners, pays more taxes than a traditionally employed family on the same income. Do we deserve a big cash payment because we were not exactly equally treated as the majority? Absolutely not, that is a choice we make, and a choice they made when they decided to come across the ocean.
