If the Liberals ever release the names of the seven people that took the stolen money into their campaigns this will change. That's not to mention that there's still money left to account for. And by safe harboring the 7 criminals from prosecution by not releasing their names, Paul Martin is as culpable as the rest. Obstruction of justice? They've admited the money was used in campaigns, and yet won't say who's campaigns. For example, if Pettigrews campaign used a few thousand, I'm sure without the stolen cash he would not have been elected. Is this not profiting from a crime? Someone's got to stop this non-sense and put some people in jail.

Liberal Activist Judges Strike Again
geoffrey replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Latimer should have had murder one and life. Whats the age of consent on euthanasia? You can't consent to sex until 14, you can't drink until 18-19, you can't vote until 18... but you can consent that your life is no longer worth living at 12? Or is the argument the parent can decide if the child's life is worth living until they can? Doesn't this justify any case of killing your kids, for all, the parent always knows? -
You'll find very few people with patience for rants. Mostly because they are 99% rhetoric and 1% information. Cut the crap and give me the beans, and I'll consider what your saying. This isn't Renaissance France, its a forum in modern Canada.

Paul Martin's hate-speech ads
geoffrey replied to YankAbroad's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Well said, and I'd apologize on behalf of the Canadians that don't support this vote buying rhetoric. Of course, I'll get blamed for being too close to the Americans or something. It would be a complete lie for the Liberals to play the "tolerant party" card while making statements like this. How about this for a CPC ad... "Canadians may elect the most pro-gay leader in the western world. A Martin victory would put a smile on every queer's face." Blood would be running in the streets... instead we are ok if we substitute American for gay. It's not acceptable and its disgraceful. I would be ashamed of my Canadian citizenship if Canadian's in fact elected a party with values of such obvious bigotry. -
I'd like to take a read, where'd you find this? I did some extensive googling and couldn't find it.

I can tell you Stan was talking about a $44,000/spot in Ontario. 650,000 spots is equal to 28.6 billion per year, or 143 billion over 5. It's nice to cost things, and even nicer to cost things with common sense. You can also tack on some extra for admin costs and the such, which are invariably higher in the Federal government. Add in the extra cost of providing a centre in every single little community to make it 'universal.' With the Liberals, I like to use the gun registry formula... when its in millions, change it to billions... in billions, I might as well change it to trillions. I'm going to do some additional research and get back to you with a more reasonable number... at least I hope that 143 Billion isn't accurate?

Let me pick you apart, you might enjoy it... Wrong Eureka. Like I said, in these crystals apparently it can be a few things. Competely different meaning from what you crazy non-crystal atomic stuff supporters think. No, he's saying that Canada can only function when people that are affected make decisions. I for one, would rather have people living in my area with the power then someone off in Ottawa that has never seen where I live. Top-heavy management always fails. Where it Constitutionally belongs. Either defend the Constitution or don't. You can't say Harper will violate the Charter, but should violate the Constitution. Make up your mind. This is true. As it should be. Whether the government in Ottawa spends it or the government in Edmonton, it makes no difference, you should know that. And we are past the spend and tax monetary policy. Thats why we have centralized banking that controls these pressures more responsibily through controls on money supply. Mackenzie King didn't even spend on the right things if your looking at it from a Keynesianism perspective. Maybe this government being strong is what causes the problems. When people are oppressed they will fight back. Not oppression in the traditional sense, but outside of Ontario and Quebec regional issues are simply ignored. Or we are people that have an understanding of economics and conservative economic policy. Or that we understand what a national childcare program really means/costs. Or that we understand that giving people some more self-determination will make them much more content to stay in Canada. Your the one holding on to centuries old values (especially in your defense of Federal power based on Keynesian economics, and from even that perspect you were wrong). We are the ones trying to improve the way things are done.

He making it up. It is a reference to the law that makes 14 the age of consent. Thought as much... though I guess it would be legal hey? Definately need to either use that good old section 33 or at least regulate this.

As an Albertan born and raised I feel it's my duty to say that the west needs to quit whining about the Liberals for things that happened 30+ years ago. My conservative MP sat securely on the back benches behind Brian Mulroney and had as much pull as his predecessor who sat far behind Robert Stanfield in opposition. My current MP will move from the back benches on the opposition side to the back benches on the government side. I find it humourous that people here think that things are going to change if the Conservative party forms the government this time around. Besides that my MP becomes Prime Minister... Honestly I know its not about representation, I'm just saying Trudeau was the cause of this division, and no one has really acted to solve that problem.

I don't think anyone would be ok with a 14 year old at a swingers club... I hope your not making this up, did Martin actually say that?

Economist says Tories gave him incomplete platform
geoffrey replied to mar's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The real income of Canadians rose only slightly higher than inflation. Joy. Running surpluses is almost as bad as running deficiets. It means you taking more than you need and your hampering the economy. It's not hard to run surpluses when your robbing EI either. As well, the Child Care proposal is significantly under-costed. This needs to be stopped, so your idea that we have no claim that the Liberals are over-spending is false. Once its in place, it will become one of those untouchables (like health care) and we'll be stuck with this bill forever. As Stan mentioned, $44,000 per spot. 650,000 spots... 28.6 billion per year? Not to mention is way harder and more costly to provide this so-called 'universal system' in remote areas than downtown Toronto. Add on the usual Liberal beaurucracy costs... and we would most likely see a number higher than that. This can't be allowed to happen. -
CTV1) I'm surprised about how weak the NDP is. 2) The BQ is certainly not going to get its 50% and this is going to cause a large debate in sovereigntist circles. (At the same time, it may add pressure on Harper if he forms a government.) 3) Quebec is now hard to call. (Harper should thank Mulroney for this result. Mulroney made the Tories palatable in Quebec; something they hadn't been for a century.) 4) Before I wondered whether the Tories would go above 30% in at least 2 polls. Now I wonder whether the Liberals will go below 25% in at least 2 polls. 1) I'm not that surprised considering Layton hasn't been seen, and I haven't heard much policy from them. 2) It might get 50% yet, we'll see. The CPC is really actually taking votes from both the Bloc and the Liberals. 3) 6 seats is the current Geoff Prediction, the Bloc will still win an overwelming majority of Quebec seats regardless of any effort the Tories put forth. 4) I think the Liberals will continue to fall in the polls, and on election night, you'll see a below 25 liberal outcome. Maybe a 45 conservative outcome if they can hit off a strong final week.

My biggest concern is that he's portrayed as this big human rights supporter. He is also for 'coercive interrogations' and has come across with some racial ideas, I see some hypocracy here. I'm not disagreeing with the man, just I don't think he's the human rights angel that he's portrayed to be. However, maybe I haven't given him a fair chance. Alot of what the media SAYS about him clashes with what he's said, judging completely on what he's said himself, maybe I was a little harsh. I'm going to read up on more of his thinking and get back to you on this. But lets stop hijacking these people's post. When I first read this list I was in complete disbelief. I was about to say you are crazy to be so generous. Then... I checked recent polling. I'm in agreement with all but Compton-Stanstead, Beauharnois-Salaberry, and Shefford. Lasalle-Emard I've already predicted going to the Bloc. So the updated numbers considering these relavations (and other recent relavations): The Geoff Prediction v3 CPC 162 BQ 62 LPC 57 NDP 26 IND 1 So I've given the NDP Kenora now... I'll give Etobicoke-Lakeshore back to the Grits out of sympathy... and updated with some new Quebec findings. If those other 3 Quebec ridings slide even a bit more Blue (I guess the Bloc is kinda blue too... DARK blue) I'll be making a 4th prediction before the 23rd.

I'm pretty sure the US knows we are a write-off when it comes to actual national defense. Most US defense ideas are drawn up without our consent for good reason, we don't follow commitments. Missile defense will just be another defense scheme where we have no consent to what is happening over our skies. You can thank Paulie for that.

This post is just pure insanity. Trudeau won his governemnts for a reason. He was supported by the majority of Canadians for a reason. There is nothing about this that equates to "dangerous offender" A completely unintelligent , unfair, and ridiculous statement. Well Trudeau ended any support from the West in Ottawa. Ever since Saskatchewan West has felt alienated and abused, and rightfully so. Also remember who was in power during the FLQ crisis, he had the power to end that before it started, but instead waited until people got killed.

Oh Canada where is my country going ?
geoffrey replied to Harare's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No disagreement there, I see the facts. I'm just saying we are near our maximum, increases in taxes from here will hurt our businesses. It is a bit of a Laffer curve argument, but I'm not pulling a Reaganomics card here. There are other factors you have to take into consideration when you look at a business's operating environment (labour law, labour supply, location) to look how it is competitive in the international marketplace. Our tax laws being lower right now make up for our higher cost of labour and smaller domestic market. An increase in taxes even still below other nations would hurt business and therefore the economy as well. -
I've sat (or slept ) through philosophy, I understand its importance in thinking and logic. However, teaching it in high school is too dangerous, for with every little spin you can put on it, you'll have these kids set in the ways of thinking just like their philosophy teacher. At least wait until they can make up their own mind. It's an interesting idea. Just don't agree with it in high schools. Mandatory in universities? Aboslutely in agreement. Harare, watching the busloads of seniors at the polling stations is a form of national entertainment, I really wish you wouldn't try to destroy this Canadian value. Not to mention, they probably would use computers, oh sorry "those blasted machines" to vote...

Sweden style required military service? Is there any evidence that this lowers crime? -
Economist says Tories gave him incomplete platform
geoffrey replied to mar's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Mostly due to increased debt service payments because of interest rates in the Mulroney times. Come on, if your going to go there, at least tell the whole story. Mulroney was also attempting to create an environment for the economy to recover after Trudeau trashed it. Chretien simply enjoyed this environment. Martin does deserve credit in his fiscal conservatism (and social conservatism at one time too) at the beginning of his time in the Finance office. Too bad he's so far away from that now. -
Economist says Tories gave him incomplete platform
geoffrey replied to mar's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's true, and I have a feeling about which of those spending areas will go. From that perspective as well, its obvious which party will be best for the economy. And actually I think the Liberal plan is at least costed within their estimates (which have a not so great track record) not to run a deficiet though, about the only thing going for them right now. Economy in Canada does not equal government budget , by the way. So all this the CPC will destroy our economy and make us all poor doesn't work. The economy is based more upon the monetary policy of the Bank of Canada then it ever will be on what happens in the House of Commons. Another important consideration is the Liberals utter failure to realise costs. Anyone remember the 1mil gun registry? Is anyone actually convinced on the costs of building and running these huge child care establishments? -
Get out the guns and canned goods! The end of Canada is coming! I know I'm not going to be suprised when the Federal buildings start flying American flags with another star on them on January 24th!!! I better shoot myself in the foot tonight too, don't want to be drafted by the American Warmacht! The polls disagree with your Quebec=NDP statement, however leftist the Quebecois actually are. And about the axis: ax·is ( P ) Pronunciation Key (kss) n. pl. ax·es (ksz) 9. One of three or four imaginary lines used to define the faces of a crystal and the position of its atoms. So yes, it can bend four ways. Don't you know Bush is highly intelligent in the areas of the crystals and atomic science!!!

Economist says Tories gave him incomplete platform
geoffrey replied to mar's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree mar about Mulroney, but I've explained this action in another thread, debt financing and the such. Remember, Martin also robbed the EI fund to end deficiets. I have no reason to believe our economy would collapse under the CPC. Every one of their policies is favourable to our economy, besides the child care program. Fair enough on the economists comment as well. -
Congress of Aboriginal Peoples endorses Conservatives
geoffrey replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So its either a commitment to democracy or equality. It seems more obviously lately that we really can't have both. I understand what your saying, I really do. I just don't know if we can dismiss democracy based upon this? I also contend that swingers clubs and polygamy offer actual harm to society (if your defending these rights based on consequenialist thought). Also remember that the first entrenched right in the Charter is: "Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms... a) Freedom of Conscience and Religion" Scrapping the notwithstanding clause would have the Courts walking all over this. Martin himself said he'd use the clause to defend religious freedom. I really don't want to hijack this thread though so lets get back on topic... This is another area where the Liberals are completely out of sync with Canadians, and I'm sure thats why we are seeing the aboriginal support for the CPC growing. Minorities are ever more shifting their support to the Conservatives in general, this is just a sign of the times. -
Economist says Tories gave him incomplete platform
geoffrey replied to mar's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
We are already in deep debt, blame that one on the Liberal Messiah Trudeau. And Bush's deficiet is due to military spending in Iraq. Harper has said no Canadians will go to Iraq. The Conservative platform works, you'll find plenty of economists that endorse it. -
What Issues are most important to you?
geoffrey replied to Timetrvlr's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agreed, there are so many better ways to do Health Care. Those that just stick to the shadow of Tommy Douglas are really blind to the reality that Canada does not have a first rate system. And I simply cannot accept the French having shorter wait lines.
