  1. Who pooped in your Corn Flakes? I have been married for 36 years and find nothing wrong with traditional marriage, but is something that requires continual discussion and compromise. Many young people today are too into themselves and it's all about what they want, so having to get along and compromise is just something many are not willing to do. Government also penalizes couples who are married by combining income. In many cases if people live together and not tell the government they are living as a couple they oftentimes qualify for such things as the GST Rebates, while those who are married are often do not qualify because of the government combining the two incomes.
  2. I think you are right, and a good part of the blame for this is misleading editorials by pro-Liberal, Pro-NDP news agencies like most of our mainstream media here in Canada, such as CTV, CBC, Global. Most of these people THINK they speak for Canadians when the truth is they speak only from their own biases. How many times have we seen both CBC, and CTV imitate shows currently on U.S networks, as if we need any more posers just so some second-rate actors can get media exposure funded with taxpayer's dollars through Heritage Canada. I think it is time the our government gets out of the movie and entertainment business, does away with Heritage Canada and start using those taxpayers dollars where they will do far more good.
  3. The idea of paper is it is lighter, and easier to carry. The idea of coins is for vending machines, but there is already the ability for vending machines to do paper. Change is easier to loose falling out of pocket laying down, or in a chair. The savings does not seem to be that big a deal. I tends to agree with your remarks, and besides how much further ahead are we with these supposed savings, considering Chretien wasted how much on Sponsorship and the failed gun registry. As far as I'm concerned, it just gave the government more money to waste on other things that are of no importance to most Canadians.
  4. Should the federal government be involved? I say yes. It isn't something that the private sector has taken the initiative on. In Saint John, NB the Irving's at one time owned Saint John Transit, but when they couldn't get the city to fund their profit margin they sold it off to the City who has been running it ever since. The reality is that public transit will never be self-sufficient and the cities, as well as the provincial, and federal governments realize that so it is up to the feds to step up to the plate, and help out if they hope to have an impact on the air pollution. The trick is to have the transit system running when the people need and want it otherwise the people will just continue to use their cars to get where they need to be. In Saint John, we also just have Sunday shopping yet on most runs the public transit system runs only Monday to Friday, leaving all of those who have to work on weekends scrambling to get to work, mostly by private car. If the government is going to promote 7 day a week commerce, they also need to promote a 7 days per week transit system. When I spoke to one of the city councillors his excuse for not running the transit system the 6th or 7th day, was they could not afford to run it, but I have to ask, can they afford not to considering the fact that they promoted 7 days per week shopping at the request of the businesses. What they should have told big business is that in order to be open 7 days per week these business would have to contribute to the budget for the transit commission.
  5. The truth is that Multiculturalism has been a failure whereever it has been attempted. Even France is now admitting that this failed attempt at social engineering has been a total failure, which is why they and other EU countries are having minority Muslims demanding that laws be changed to suit their faith, just as they tried in Ontario to do the same. The scary part is that McGinty initially saw nothing wrong with allowing Sharia Laws so that Muslims could deal with Muslins outside the justice system we all are expected to live under. He saw no problem until he started receiving flack from women's groups all over the world, especially from quarters where Sharia Law already exists and treats women with utter disrespect and takes away any equality they may have under existing laws in Canada. It was only then that he backed off, and decided that Sharia Law was not a good idea for Ontario. His initial acceptance is no surprise since he is a Liberal and their idea of what Canada should look like differs from most Candians in that most believe that the melting pot would result in a much better society because it would allow Canada do actually develop it's own culture. By allowing our bleeding-hearty politicians to continue down this road to disharmony called multiculturalism, we are asking for everything that we get. You cannot allow segregation and expect harmony at the end of the day, and that is what multiculturalism bascically is, segregation based on many things. Our's in Canada started with bilingualism and even that has failed, yet we followed these same fools down the road to failed multiculturalism. My Webpage
  6. Grow up Shakeyhands, the name of the game is politics, and if poor little Dion can't defend himself he has nobody to blame but himself. The truth is that he contradicts himself every time he opens his mouth. What was okay before when the Liberals including himself put programs and legislation in place is no longer okay because the Liberals are no longer in control. Too bad, get over it! If the Liberals were at all smart they never would have put this man at the helm, he is a sure fire way to alienate the majority of the Canadians, and cause them to vote Conservative instead of Liberal or NDP. From my perspective there is little or no difference between proposals of the Liberals and the NDP, both parties want to be all things to all Canadians from birth to death. Myself, I want less government, not more government, I want smaller, not larger, and I want non-invasive, not invasive government policies and laws, because when government becomes involved in any aspect of forming Canadian society. Government has a very poor track record of either making it work, or doing anything efficiently or affectively, but they are definitely good at creating a very expensive lessons in "How Not To Do Something." The Liberals and their Sponsorship and, Gun Registry to name but two, are prime examples of the total failure of government to dictate "How To Do Anything." Those are just two examples of many illustrating the fact that the Liberals as a government, were a total failure for Canadians.
  7. That is asinine considering the fact that this is exactly what the corporations are lobbying for. what they are also lobbying for is lower or preferably no corporate taxes whether on income or on payroll. I watched a program on TV and the representative for the corporate sector came right out and said that they felt that they should not have to contribute to any social programs, and if the people want they, they should be the ones to pay for them. When asked who she thought should pay for these social programs, she answered, from government. When they asked her where the government was expected to get this money to pay for social programs, she answered, from the people. In a nut shell, the corporate sector wants to be able to gouge the people through the free-market system that they lobbied for, but they also do not want to pay their share or any share for that matter of the tax burden to keep this country and our people afloat. As for Neither is allowing the corporate sector to pay nothing towards the tax burden which all other Canadians reluctantly pay, yet what the corporate sector wants is to pay nothing while being able to dictate to government what it is that they want.
  8. and then there was this: Let's hope they can now come to some diplomatic consensus at this conference, Russia has laid its cards onm the table. Putin draws line in sand at European conference Putin with his anti-democratic measures including reining in rights to free speech is demonstrating that he would like to see Russia back to the time he was in the KGB, when he could just make people disappear when they do not agree with the State. What he is ultimately risking is that eventually the democratic free-world will isolate Russia as they have North Korea and Iran. I bet he is real sorry that their constitution now does not allow him to just declare himself to be President for life. Thank God their are clearer heads in Russia, but they had better step on this would-be dictator before he get to choose who is successor will be like they still do in Cuba, and other backward countries. I believe Venezuelais heading in the saem direction, because Chavez is thirsty for power, and that is a real bad combination to have a leader who wants power, and has no brains.
  9. Toronto StarIOW, the Tories are exactly where they were on election day, both in Quebec and across Canada. This is good news for Harper. In particular, the Quebec support is likely concentrated meaning that it will generate seats. Afghanistan and Lebanon are not decisive issues. If Harper puts forward intelligent environmental and gun legislation - along with a good budget - then the Tories will be hard to beat. You wish! The poll they announced today states that the honeymoon period for the Liberals is over since Dion took over the leadership if the Liberals and even in vote rich Ontario the Conservatives are leading the Liberals. This does bode well for the Liberals because it means that the Liberals miscalculated by naming another Quebecer as leader, and especially someone who speaks English worse than Chretien, and that is saying something. Now would be a good time for the Tories to trigger an election, which may be why the Liberals and the NDP do not want certain fiscal measures tied to the Budget, they want them tabled separately so that they can defeat them, without causing an election. I think that the Liberals as well as the NDP know full well that Canadians so far like what they see regarding the direction the Conservatives would like to take Canada, especially putting more money into the hands of Canadians, and they know they are going to lose seats to the Conservatives to the point that the Conservatives are going to have a majority.
  10. It seems to me that both Russia, China and France are more interested in backing muslim extremists such as those in Hamas, Iran, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon than they are in achieving world peace. These people do not get it do they? These muslim extremists could care less about these supporters they are merely a means to their end goal which is the elimination of all infidels which is also what the people of these countries are considered to be, no different than the U.S. Brittain, Canada, Australia. The big difference is that these countries want to continue selling arms and other commodities to these extremist countries, never mind that they are using these weapons against fellow NATO countries soldiers..
  11. That is a very bizarre post. Also just as bizarre IIRC, Zundel ran for the leadership of the Federal Liberal Party Germany had the balls to do what Canada seemed not to be able to do. due to our bleeding heart liberal minded judiciary. No wonder Canada has become a country with no morals and no values. In fact in the minds of Liberal politicians, being Canadian means having no morals or values at all.
  12. Like it or not, the hysteria over "global warming" is not going away, and is seriously affecting his re-election chances. Realpolitik says that he either addresses the issue or takes the hit. I know, I know. In a perfect world, Canadians would realize what junk science is behind the greenhouse gas scaremongering, but in a perfect world all Canadians would be literate, too, and we know that's nowhere near the case. You can bet that if the Liberals got in this money, and more, would have been spent anyway, likely to less effect. So it's either spend it nor, or wait until Dion is in power and watch twice as much piddled away for nothing. It's fine to stand on principal, but the tories did that for decades and where did it get them? You have to compromise on some things in order to achieve others, and if that means addressing air pollution in the name of "greenhouse gas reduction" then that's not a terrible thing. At least it's better than funding canoe museums, blonde joke books, and Chretien's entire extended family. The last thing that Canada needs is to have another PM from the Province of Quebec. We will be right back to giving opening the purse-strings every time Quebec whines. When are we going to get a PM or a government for that matter that is going to tell Quebec that enough is enough? If they don't like it here, leave, it's as simple as that, but when you have successive governments regardless of political stripe pandering to every whine coming out of Quebec City, Canada will never become the country we could be.
  13. [I believe we are much better off as a society if we ensure that every has access to a minimum level of education because a society with more educated people is a wealthier society. That said, I think offering free/cheap tuition for university is the dumbest way to achieve that objective because it undermines the quality of our universities and encourages people to pursue university education when they probably should be looking for other options. What do you mean, "An educated Society is a wealthier society?" All it means is that we have many university graduates vying for pick-and-shovel jobs because there are no jobs in their chosen professions, because the universities are pumping them out faster than they can be placed. University graduates in ever increasing number find themselves upon graduation working at call-centres or other service industry jobs, doing work that has nothing whatsoever to do with the training they received while in school. What do you mean when you say, "Free /cheap tuition undermines the quality of our universities and encourages YADA, YADA, YADA.... While I agree that many who are attending university have no business being there, the fact is that many of those that can afford to attend do so because their parents have the well with all to afford sending their children to these so-called institutions of higher learning. My point is that those that can afford to pay their own way are not necessarily the student who should be attending. A week or so ago, Roger's Talk and News on my local station did a show on the fact that more than 50% of university students cheat to obtain the marks they are receiving, and this revelation came from a survey of the students themselves conducted by McLean's Magazine. The did not differentiate who it was that was doing the cheating, just that more than 50% of students cheat. The commentator's point was that having a university degree is no guarantee that the person an employer is hiring didn't get their degree by cheating, so this in effect denigrates all university degree graduate's supposed qualifications. Universities are crying all the time about the fact that a large percentage of students entering university cannot properly read nor comprehend what it is that they are reading. Granted many who are in university today, have no business being there because they do not have the basics of education to be able to properly function without cheating in order to get passing grades, and those that are passing without cheating are not necessarily those whose parents have the money to pay their tuition costs. I don't want to see us go back to a time when only the affluent are able to afford a university degree, by many in our society somehow feel that because they are affluent they have a right to have that university degree and thus the jobs that these degrees open up for them, even if they are not the brightest of students, it's called pampered, spoiled brat syndrome, and they turn into that arrogant boss who presumes that because daddy's money bought them a degree they are somehow smart enough to determine what is best for everyone around them. In New Brunswick, Bernard Lord made a big announcement that he was going to ensure that every student in Middle School would be given a laptop computer to use until they graduate. Sounds like a beat idea, but a young lady I heard speaking at the local pharmacy ask a question that brought to light a very pertinent subject, she asked," Does it make any sense to give laptop computers to students who are already graduating and attending universities and community colleges who cannot read, write or spell, or do math equations?" She continued with, " Why would you give a tool to students that will allow them the opportunity to continue not to learn the basics, since these laptops will do their math for them, it will also, at the click of the mouse, will correct grammar errors, spelling mistakes, and punctuation." At first glance the idea sounded good but when put in that context the idea really sounds foolish, but here we are in New Brunswick with Middle School students still being awarded their very own laptop computer, go figure? I don't want to go back to a time when only the affluent are able to attain a university degree, and with ever rising tuition, and other university costs, it is quickly coming full-circle, and the time is right around the corner when only the affluent will be able to afford to attend university, or any other post-secondary educational facility. Even community colleges have raised their tuition to a point where it is becoming unaffordable for many.

  15. It is my understanding that the Conservative Party itself is paying for those ads, and the fact is that the Liberals have no money in their war-chest to retaliate, and they in reality couldn't anyway since the ads are factual and some of the clips are spoken by Dion himself. You can't refute truth, and these ads represent truth. It's too bad that the truth is painful to the Lieberals . Dion was a failure with regarding the sponsorship program, the useless gun registry, and the Environment, and yet he is still naive enough to have aspirations of becoming PM. The first thing Dion needs to learn ,is the ability to speak English, so he can at least speak to the majority of Canadians. Sorry, I know it is not politically correct to complain that someone who wants to be PM can't speak the language of the majority. I know I should say that because we put up with another PM who couldn't speak either English or French intelligently, namely Jean Chretien.
  16. Here comes another nut-case wanting the world to have one government or that's what he seems to imply about not having borders between countries. That is what is wrong with Canada, we seem to have very porous borders where anyone can enter as long as they are willing to say they are abused in their own country, yet these same people refuse to renounced the citizenship of teh country that supposedly abused them, IE; Arar, Kadhr and I'm willing to bet all of those and their families who were arrested in Toronto planning terrorist attacks. Give me a break! You either want to be Canadian or you don't, and if you don't, please go the hell back where you came from.
  17. What makes it relevant? I just read today about the fact that the UN has allowed another oil-for-food like program to happen. An independent audit is to be conducted because North Korea it seems was given money to help feed their starving peoples while at the same time refusing UN oversight. As a result of that lack of oversight, $Millions of dollars have been diverted by the North Korean government for other uses, possibly even their nuclear weapons program. http://www.voanews.com/english/2007-01-19-voa79.cfm The truth is that the UN has become a totally useless bureaucracy sucking taxpayers money from many countries for absolutely no results, unless you count yearly condemnation of Israel while the terrorist organization who love to attack Israel are not taken to task for their violations of Israeli citizenry.
  18. Yeah, I could see waiting until 2008. If Harper doesn't go right after the next budget he has no real advantage waiting until the fall. Wait for the '08 budget maybe... That is definitely longer than the average minority Government in Canada. Polls are just that polls, and the only true poll is the one where the people actually get to vote. All the rest are partisan in nature, meant to bolster the party conducting the poll of those they support. Many of the recent polls are conducted by Liberal friendly media sources, the same sources who conducted the polls before the last election, and gee they showed that the Liberals were going to win. Unfortunately for the Liberal friendly media their predictions were wrong, and the people saw through their attempt to manipulate the election results. I predict that many people like what the Conservatives have to offer, because after the latest leadership convention where the Liberal chose Dion to be their leader, it shows quite strikingly that the Liberals have learned nothing from the electorate and they are simply carrying on with the same old, same old, and the funny thing is it is with the same has-beens. The only peopel left behind are Martin and the Cretin. Dion is no better since he was involved in the shenanigance of sponsorship, HRDC, and the failed gun registry to name just a few blunders, besides the fact that he can't even speak English. The LIberals seem to feel for whatever reason that the National leader has to be from Quebec, and I have to wonder why since they represent one language and not the language of the majority of Canadians, nor the language that the majority wants to speak.
  19. Maybe it is time to pack these radical Islamists up and send them back where they came from for good. These radicals have a stated goal of spreading Islam to the whole world, whether the rest of the world likes it or not. Unfortunately Canada has not figured this out yet, because we always seem to try whatever has failed in other parts to the world, and are naive enough to believe that everyone is inherently good. The truth is that radical Islamists want to spread their intolerance for other religions and customs throughout the whole world. Also unfortunately Canadian Politicians are not smart enough to realize that fact yet, because these immigrants are still coming to Canada fully expecting Canada to change our traditions and culture to mesh with theirs. At least the U.S. makes no bones about the fact that they do not believe in a failed concept of multiculturalism, and they pull no punches about the fact that the U.S. is a melting pot and immigrants are expected to adjust to fit in. Maybe Canada should be doing the same thing, and tell our immigrants to either fit in or go home. France is now reaping what they have sown, a failed belief of multiculturalism.
  20. Not me. At least, he wasn't the worst, and his trial and punishment far exceed how other brutal dictators have been treated...the list is too long to put here. The peace of death, I suppose...as to peace in the country, I predict years of bloodshed. Which isn't much of a prediction, since it is the status quo today. Justice? Pffft. The trial was a farce from beginning to end. Saddam should have been tried in The Hague, and it should have included the chemical weapon attacks. Mind you, it should have also included members of the US administration who condoned, aided and abetted Saddam at the time. Yeah okay, whatever! Bleeding hearts like you should maybe move to the Middle East and find out just how welcome anyone is from the West. Saddam Hussien butchered his own people if they did not agree with him. Seems to me that Dion and the Liberals feel the same way about Canadians who do not feel that they are the natural governing party of Canada. Maybe they wouldn't go so far as butchering opponents but they would definitely make opposition to their ideas against the law if they thought they could get away with it. Thank God the people of Canada developed a spine and turfed this bunch of thieves and liars while we still could. Given another couple of terms, I'm sure they would have found some way to delay elections until they could figure out a way to do away with them completely. Imagine the gall of the Liberals telling Canadians that we are basically stupid if we don't believe everything they tell us, and refuse to believe that they are our saviours. From what I can see and have experienced another couple of terms with the Liberals would have completely destroyed this country.
  21. Moot Point now i think. The Ethiopian airforce with Somalias blessing and help drove them out of the Capital,Mogadishu[sp]?.A fine example of African co-operation. As far as Miss McQueen being judgemental, where have you being hiding, what good have you heard the Taliban doing?,considering what she said was to my opinion entirely reasonable. The Taliban should be dealt with, what is that saying,''EXTREME PREJUDICE''.It is only language they seem to respect and understand. My Apologies to mcqueen if that is not what she meant. Exactly what I meant. The Taliban as well as other extremist groups seem to feel that they have the right to force their totalitarian culture onto other peoples by force, and the only way to combat force is with force. First of all it's not Miss, but Mr. and I admit that I am no student of Islam, but I have read that nowhere in the Koran does it tell women that they MUST cover their heads and bodies. This is simply a wacked-out interpretation of the Koran but a bunch of old men who feel that women should be subservient to men, and while I'm sure some woman would be willing to put up with this, I would bet that the vast majority of women, regardless of religious beliefs, would much rather not wear head-to-toe garb. I'm also willing to bet that most women, including Afghanistani women would much rather want to fully take part in society, which is something that the Taliban rulers and Imam's do not support, educationally or otherwise. If this werer not so the schools in Afghanistan would still be a boy's-only club, but since the Taliban were chased away, many women now attend school on a regular basis. That is a good thing!
  22. I disagree and the reason for that disagreement is quite simple, remember back to the Lebanese evacuation? Many of these so-called Canadians are citizens of convenience only. Of the15,000 evacuated, many have not lived or participated in Canadian society for years, and suddenly when their lives were in danger they sudden became patriotic Canadians demanding to be rescued. Of the 15,000 rescued at taxpayer's expense apparently over 7,000 returned to Lebanon immediately o resume their lives as Lebanese citizens. If one is going to claim Canadian citizenship they should at the very least be contributing taxes like the rest of us who live here all year, year in and year out. Being a citizen of convenience is not being Canadian.
  23. In an article I read it indicates that the money Canada gives is being handed out to both the World Bank and the UN, with virtually no accountability as to how or where the money is to be spent, and to make matters even worse, much of this money is just being handed to the governments of these countries with no direction as to how the money is to be spent. Many of these government could very well be directing this money toward the military infrastructure instead of to humanitarian needs. On top of that the article pointed out that because we no longer dispense the money ourselves, Canada gets absolutely no credit on the ground for the foreign-aid money we hand over to the U.N. It is time that instead of handing our foreign-aid money to the U.N. that we instead dispense it ourselves directly to impoverished nations for specific humanitarian needs such as clean water, housing and medical care. At least that would ensure that the money is being properly spent with accountability, and it will also ensure that Canada gets proper credit on the ground for the humanitarian work that our foreign-aid is able to accomplish. I would be willing to bet that much of our foreign-aid is being eaten up through a vast administrative organization throughout the U.N. and their sister organizations like the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund. It is quite obvious to everyone that we are definitely not getting a very big bang for the buck, and we are not getting credit on the ground to the huge amounts on money that is flowing up to the U.N. but seems to not be flowing back down to those countries that need it in order to survive, otherwise we would not be reading reports like the one which started this particular forum.
  24. U.N. envoy seeks Security Council action for Somalia POSTED: 3:03 a.m. EST, December 27, 2006 Here we go again the rudundant ineffective UN taking the side is Islamic militants bent on world domination. Their stated goal is to turn Somalia into a Taliban-style repressive onclave where people's freedoms are limited at best, and where females are viewed as chattel, to be beaten or murdered if they dare step out of line or open their mouths. The world should be standing up to these extremists and telling them that the world has had enough, and if they don't find their proper place soon the fre world will ban their activities altogether. That may sound rather harsh, but it seems to be the only thing that these nut-cases understand. People want freedom of speech, freedom to make their own choices of how they live and above all freedom to worship they way they want, not to be dictated by minorities and extremists from any particular lobby group, religious or otherwise.
