Whoever you support, it is time to move on
mcqueen625 replied to ruski_canuk's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sparhawk I can tell by this post and your answer to my post concerning Belinda And her motivation for joining with the corrupt Lieberals. First of all the leader of the Lieberals was involved in the sponsorship program by virtue of his being Finance Monister when this theft was going on. One of two things are quite apparent. Either he was incompetent in his post as Finance Minister by not making himself aware of where the money was being misappropriated to. Or, he knew all along what was going on and chose to turn a blind eye, and let it happen. In both cases he is culpable, and has no right to expect Canadian's to trust him. Quebecer's certainly don't trust him, and that says volumes about his character, or lack of.You talk about waiting for the results of the Gomery inquiry. Judging by an article I read on Canada Free Press which detailed the mandatre handed to Justice Gomery to conduct his inquiry, section (K) basically ties the hands of Justice Gomery so that in the end he cannot express any conclusion or recommendation regarding the civil or criminal liability of any person or organization. Martin told the Canadian people that this inquiry would get to the bottom of this issue. Was he outright lying or is this just another smoke and mirrors exercise in the hopes that Canadian's penchant for shrt-term memory loss kicks in before he has to face the voters again? I would suggest that this is all that it is, and that is why he is now traipsing across the country spending money that he didn't supposedly have when the Premier's were looking for healthcare dollars and our military personnel wer dying in inferior helicopters and submarines. -
Should Bernard Lord remplace harper ?
mcqueen625 replied to Bakunin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It is quite obvious to me that none of the people posting on this thread happen to live in New Brunswick. I can tell you from experience, as a New Brunswicker, and as one who has supported Bernard Lord in the past that you do not want this individual to run you local animal shelter let onlne your country. You think Canada has problems now, a government run by Bernard Lord would be far worse. Examples of Bernard's ineptitude are: Taxes: All taxes and fees have increased substantially during the rein of King Bernie. Healthcare: Our level of healthcare has deteriorated through funding cutbacks instituted under Bernie's leadership. Many hospital have either been closed outright or downgraded to Community Health Centres, that are only accessible during certain hours. Power rates: These have gone up substantially and are expected to go up much higher partially due to improper management of this wholly owned entity. NB Power is owned 100% by the taxpayer's of New Brunswick yet a decision was made by Bernie and team to spend in excess of $750 million to refit a plant to burn a fuel called orimulsion, obtainable only from one source, Venezuela. No contract was ever signed prior to this expenditurte and now we find out this fuel is not going to be supplied by Venezuela. Ratepayer's are now expected by Bernie to just pay up, and shut up. As he put it; New Brunswicker's can afford a 12% increase in their power rates. Gas tax rebates for municipalities: This is an item included in the latest federal budget from the Martin Liberal's, and is meant to be spent on crumbling municipal infrastructure, yet Bernie now wants to only give 63% of this money to the municipalities, 35 % he wants to keep in reserve for unincorporated (rural) areas of the Province, even though the Province now collects 100% of the Property Taxes from these unincorporated areas and won't even be accountable to these areas as to where the money they do pay is going. The last 2% bernie wants to keep as an administration fee. The Province is entitled to none of this revenue and yet his Finance Minister has also not ruled out reducing the transfer payments to the municipalities by the exact amount they will receive from this rebate program. Tax deals for billionaires: I saved the best for last. Ever hear of the Irving Family? Well in case you haven't they are in the Forbes Books are some of the richest people in the world. They in conjunction with Rapsol of Spain are proposing to build an LNG Terminal in Saint John, NB. Now a similar proposal in a Nova Scotia town is going to be very financially beneficial for that town, but in backwater New Brunswick, money rules. Money rules by not having to share any of it. In Nova Scotia the town will receive about $5 million annually in tax revenue and it is tagged to inflation, plus the company making the proposal is willing to build a sportsplex, and establish a fund of $10 million US, to assist anyone interested in opening a business with interest-free loans. In New Brunswick the City Council brokered a deal with Jack Irving whereby the Irving LNG Project would pay only $500,000.00 per year for 25 years, with no inflation clause. The City of Saint John is already $91 million in debt, and has one of the highest porperty tax rates in the Maritimes. Besides being a bad deal for the City and the citizen's alike, this is a deal that the City of Saint John had no authority under either the Municipalities Act, the Assessment Act, or the Real Property Tax Act, but right out of the gate Bernie stated he was willing to apporve any changes required to make this deal happen. Now I have to ask you people, just who is in charge in New Brunswick, our elected representatives, or the Irving's? I am not against the deal per se but it needs to have a dose of reality inserted into it. Certain questions need to be asked and answered, but that has not happened. Even the experts employed by the Cith of Saint John were not consulted, as to whether this deal was financially advantageous to the citizens of Saint John. One area of particular concern is the fact that the location for this proposed LNG Terminal is quite a ways out a narrow two lane raos along the Bay of Fundy. This road over time has eroded to the point that a couple of homes have been undermined and the homes have tumbled into the Bay,. Other homes have been abandoned due to erosion right up to their back doors, and many ot these homes are very close to the road that leads to this site. Irving says they will limit the amount of heavy equipment on this raod, but I don't see how that promise could be kept simply because it is the only road to or from this site. For Bernie to jump right onto this bandwagon without all of these questions being answered out in the open, it shows just how incompetent Bernie and his hand-picked team really are. Would I want Bernard Lord for Prime Minister? I'll answer my own question this way. I have supported the PC in the past, and yes I have voted for Bernard Lord, BUT I never again. I have never voted Liberal in my life but as soon as we can get to the polls in New Brunswick I will put my mark beside the Liberal candidate's name. Federally I will vote Conservative, not because I have always voted Conservative, but because they are the only party at this time that speaks for my values, both family and religious values. -
Since the exposure by the Auditor General- Ms. Fraser, I have held the opinion that the Liberal Party of Canada is a corrupt entity, and they will do anything or say anything to hold onto power. It was a pretty sad day for Canada when both Ontario and Atlantic Canada voted overwhelmingly to elect Liberal MP's to office. What does that say about Canadian's? To me is says that we would rather have a group of known thieves and liars running our country than take a chance on an unknown and untested person in Stephen Harper. Sure he followed Brian Mulroney and everyone was sick to death of ly'in Brian, but Maul Martin followed Jean Chretien, and Chretien was every bit as bad or worse than Mulroney. At least Brian made a committment to replace helicopter's that were killing our serevicemen, while the first thang that Chretien did was to cancel the order for helicopters, and then bought us some inferior submarines to go along with the old helicopters, so that more servicemen would wind up dying. Paul Martin knew that Canadians were not smart enough to figure out that instead of heading in a new direction from his predecessor, Jean Chretien, he simply carryied on with Jean's agenda. If he were serious about distancing hiself from Chretien's policies, he would have immediately gotten rid of every cabinet minister sitting under Chretien's rule. While he did get rid of a few, most he kept, and they just carried on with business as usual. Paul Martin had no intentions of changing the way business was being done, and he still is not about to change things, because obviously Canadian's are either too dim to know the difference or have become so apathetic that we could care less. As for Belinda Stronach's motivation for joining with this band of thieves, I would suggest it does not say much about either her morals or ethics, simply because up until midnight on Monday the person she was dating did not even have an inkling of what she was up to until after she had met with Martin, brokered her deal with the devil for power. Only then did she tell Peter about her decision, talk about a cold and calculating personality! As for Martin, if I were him I would not turn my back on her for long. In fact if I were in Anne McLellan's shoes, I also would n't turn my back to Belinda, after all isn't Anne second in command? Belinda used all those phrases about how she couldn't support Conservative policies, etc, etc. Well she was there when those policies were written, and in fact helped formulate those policies, how can she now say she couldn't support them? She would like Canadian's to think that she was taking the high moral road, when in fact what she has done is sold herslf for power, and nothing more. My opinion is that Belinda was born with a gold spoon in her mouth and is used to daddy buying her anything she ever wanted, but he couldn't buy her the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada, and Belinda simply cannot accept the idea of losing to anyone. When she found out how popular Stephen Harper was, and the fact that he would not be going anywhere for a long time, she simply made up her mind to seek other means to climb that political ladder. Her pundant's tout her as this brilliant business woman, when the fact is that she took over a business from her father with an executive team already in place, and as in most businesses it is the employees who actually do the work to make the CEO look as if they are really competent individuals. I am a firm believer in that old sayine, "Waht goes around, comes around." she will get her's eventually as do all treacherous, unethical people.

Does anyone really expect the Gomery Inquiry to be enlightening? If you do you are delusional, since Justice Gomery has no mandate to determine guilt or express an opinion of guilt of any person or organization. According to an article I just read on Canada Free Press, article (k) of the mandate given to Justice Gomery states; "The Commissioner be directed to perform his duties without expressing any conclusion or recommendation regarding the civil or criminal liability of any person or organization and to ensure that the conduct of the inquiry does not jeopardize any ongoing criminal investigation or criminal proceedings." Paul Martin assured Canadian's that this inquiry would get to the bottom of this scandal and inform Canadian's as to who was responsible. He stated that only the Judge is in a position to determine truth, yet the mandate given to Justice Gomery says he can deal with facts only he cannot, as the article states say for example, he thinks that Claude Boulay was telling the truth or not. The mandate does not allow for that to happen. The mandatre itself has tied the hands of the Inquiry and therefore it will not be able to, as Paul Martin puts it, "Get to the bottom." For those who are looking for the findings of this Commission to point fingers at high profile individuals or organizations they are in for one a huge disappointment. As the article goes on to state, "Ten months from now with the testimony behind us, and with a necessarily milquetoast report, the Liberals can wave the document around and say, "See, he couldn't convict anyone!" And Canadians will buy it, and nothing will change. The Liberals will continue on with their corrupt ways and Ontarian's, along with many fools in Atlantic Canada will just keep on voting Liberal at every opportunity. We seems to like being stolen from. That si the only explanation I can think of fro our misplaced trust of a Party that has been shown to be the most corrupt government in Canadian history.

Frank McKenna, ambassador to the US
mcqueen625 replied to fracan's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Exactly; But... I am from New Brunswick and we spent 10 years with Frank as our Premier. During that time he downgraded both health care, education spending to the lowest level in years raised taxes and fees and implemented many fees we never had before. Basically he caused us to be heavily taxed and are receiving less services for those taxes. Let me tell we are certainly not better off as a Province for having him as our Premier. I consider him to be one of the worst we ever had, next to the PC Premier, Bernard Lord. It is a toss-up who has done the most damage, because neither wished to listen to the wishes of the people. They both had their own agendas going in and set about implementing those agendas regardless of the concerns of the people. This appointment is simply a partisan reward for faithful service to the Liberal Party.
